    Teatro virtual em tempos pandêmicos: um olhar sobre o futuro do espectador

    This paper tries to draw the characteristics of what would be the new artistic language of theater within the virtual environment, considering the technical limitations of this space and in which ways this artistic language differenciates itself from audiovisual works and presential theater itself. The methodology consists in the observation of two staging proposals of plays that were performed presentially before the COVID-19 pandemic and that were adapted to the internet in diferente ways inbetween 2020 and 2021. The analyses of these spectacles joins the speech of researchers and artists who discourse about the movement of theater on the internet, both from the pre pandemic period as speeches that happen within this moment. From that, the analysis deepens over the figure of the cyberspectator and what is its place in this new scenic language. Taking these elements in account, the research looks for possible ways for further development of this language, considering it a valid form of scenic expression and allowing itself to glimpse the opportunities of creation and divulgation that open through the cyberspace.Este trabalho busca traçar as características do que seria a nova linguagem artística do teatro dentro do ambiente virtual, considerando as limitações técnicas deste espaço e de que maneiras essa linguagem artística se diferencia das obras audiovisuais e do próprio teatro presencial. A metodologia consiste na observação de duas propostas de encenações de peças que eram realizadas presencialmente antes da pandemia de COVID-19 e que foram adaptadas para a internet de diferentes formas entre 2020 e 2021. As análises destes espetáculos se juntam a fala de pesquisadores e artistas que discorrem sobre o movimento do teatro na internet, tanto do período pré-pandêmico quanto falas que acontecem durante esse momento. A partir disso, aprofunda-se a análise sobre a figura do ciberespectador e qual o seu papel nesta nova linguagem cênica. Levando em consideração esses elementos, a pesquisa procura por caminhos possíveis para o desenvolvimento posterior desta linguagem, considerando-a como uma forma válida de expressão cênica e permitindo-se vislumbrar as oportunidades de criação e divulgação que se abrem pelo ciberespaço

    COMPLEXIDADE RACIAL: mitos e realidades em duas freguesias de Salvador em 1775

    A partir da análise minuciosa dos dados do Censo de 1775 sobre duas freguesias de Salvador (São Pedro e Penha), são colocados em questão cinco mitos dominantes sobre a escravidão no imaginário nacional: (1) o domínio total do trabalho escravo na sociedade; (2) uma sociedade formada apenas por senhores e escravos; (3) uma sociedade constituída, por um lado, por um segmento de dominantes e exploradores e, por outro, por dominados e explorados; (4) uma sociedade urbana segregada; (5) uma sociedade patriarcal, em que as mulheres eram submissas e economicamente subordinadas. Os resultados do censo, portanto, levantam novas questões para o entendimento da complexidade do nosso passado, o que ajuda a entender a manutenção das extremas desigualdades atuais, além de evidenciar a existência de diferenciações espaciais na cidade. The results of the census, therefore, bring new subjects to understanding the complexity of our past, what helps to understand the maintenance of the extreme current inequalities, besides showing the existence of space differentiations in the city.     Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050.     Canagliflozin and renal outcomes in type 2 diabetes and nephropathy

    BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the leading cause of kidney failure worldwide, but few effective long-term treatments are available. In cardiovascular trials of inhibitors of sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2), exploratory results have suggested that such drugs may improve renal outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes. METHODS In this double-blind, randomized trial, we assigned patients with type 2 diabetes and albuminuric chronic kidney disease to receive canagliflozin, an oral SGLT2 inhibitor, at a dose of 100 mg daily or placebo. All the patients had an estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) of 30 to <90 ml per minute per 1.73 m2 of body-surface area and albuminuria (ratio of albumin [mg] to creatinine [g], >300 to 5000) and were treated with renin–angiotensin system blockade. The primary outcome was a composite of end-stage kidney disease (dialysis, transplantation, or a sustained estimated GFR of <15 ml per minute per 1.73 m2), a doubling of the serum creatinine level, or death from renal or cardiovascular causes. Prespecified secondary outcomes were tested hierarchically. RESULTS The trial was stopped early after a planned interim analysis on the recommendation of the data and safety monitoring committee. At that time, 4401 patients had undergone randomization, with a median follow-up of 2.62 years. The relative risk of the primary outcome was 30% lower in the canagliflozin group than in the placebo group, with event rates of 43.2 and 61.2 per 1000 patient-years, respectively (hazard ratio, 0.70; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.59 to 0.82; P=0.00001). The relative risk of the renal-specific composite of end-stage kidney disease, a doubling of the creatinine level, or death from renal causes was lower by 34% (hazard ratio, 0.66; 95% CI, 0.53 to 0.81; P<0.001), and the relative risk of end-stage kidney disease was lower by 32% (hazard ratio, 0.68; 95% CI, 0.54 to 0.86; P=0.002). The canagliflozin group also had a lower risk of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or stroke (hazard ratio, 0.80; 95% CI, 0.67 to 0.95; P=0.01) and hospitalization for heart failure (hazard ratio, 0.61; 95% CI, 0.47 to 0.80; P<0.001). There were no significant differences in rates of amputation or fracture. CONCLUSIONS In patients with type 2 diabetes and kidney disease, the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular events was lower in the canagliflozin group than in the placebo group at a median follow-up of 2.62 years

    Global, regional, and national disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) for 333 diseases and injuries and healthy life expectancy (HALE) for 195 countries and territories, 1990–2016: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2016

    BACKGROUND: Measurement of changes in health across locations is useful to compare and contrast changing epidemiological patterns against health system performance and identify specific needs for resource allocation in research, policy development, and programme decision making. Using the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2016, we drew from two widely used summary measures to monitor such changes in population health: disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) and healthy life expectancy (HALE). We used these measures to track trends and benchmark progress compared with expected trends on the basis of the Socio-demographic Index (SDI). METHODS: We used results from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2016 for all-cause mortality, cause-specific mortality, and non-fatal disease burden to derive HALE and DALYs by sex for 195 countries and territories from 1990 to 2016. We calculated DALYs by summing years of life lost and years of life lived with disability for each location, age group, sex, and year. We estimated HALE using age-specific death rates and years of life lived with disability per capita. We explored how DALYs and HALE differed from expected trends when compared with the SDI: the geometric mean of income per person, educational attainment in the population older than age 15 years, and total fertility rate. FINDINGS: The highest globally observed HALE at birth for both women and men was in Singapore, at 75·2 years (95% uncertainty interval 71·9-78·6) for females and 72·0 years (68·8-75·1) for males. The lowest for females was in the Central African Republic (45·6 years [42·0-49·5]) and for males was in Lesotho (41·5 years [39·0-44·0]). From 1990 to 2016, global HALE increased by an average of 6·24 years (5·97-6·48) for both sexes combined. Global HALE increased by 6·04 years (5·74-6·27) for males and 6·49 years (6·08-6·77) for females, whereas HALE at age 65 years increased by 1·78 years (1·61-1·93) for males and 1·96 years (1·69-2·13) for females. Total global DALYs remained largely unchanged from 1990 to 2016 (-2·3% [-5·9 to 0·9]), with decreases in communicable, maternal, neonatal, and nutritional (CMNN) disease DALYs offset by increased DALYs due to non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The exemplars, calculated as the five lowest ratios of observed to expected age-standardised DALY rates in 2016, were Nicaragua, Costa Rica, the Maldives, Peru, and Israel. The leading three causes of DALYs globally were ischaemic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, and lower respiratory infections, comprising 16·1% of all DALYs. Total DALYs and age-standardised DALY rates due to most CMNN causes decreased from 1990 to 2016. Conversely, the total DALY burden rose for most NCDs; however, age-standardised DALY rates due to NCDs declined globally. INTERPRETATION: At a global level, DALYs and HALE continue to show improvements. At the same time, we observe that many populations are facing growing functional health loss. Rising SDI was associated with increases in cumulative years of life lived with disability and decreases in CMNN DALYs offset by increased NCD DALYs. Relative compression of morbidity highlights the importance of continued health interventions, which has changed in most locations in pace with the gross domestic product per person, education, and family planning. The analysis of DALYs and HALE and their relationship to SDI represents a robust framework with which to benchmark location-specific health performance. Country-specific drivers of disease burden, particularly for causes with higher-than-expected DALYs, should inform health policies, health system improvement initiatives, targeted prevention efforts, and development assistance for health, including financial and research investments for all countries, regardless of their level of sociodemographic development. The presence of countries that substantially outperform others suggests the need for increased scrutiny for proven examples of best practices, which can help to extend gains, whereas the presence of underperforming countries suggests the need for devotion of extra attention to health systems that need more robust support.     A História da Alimentação: balizas historiográficas

    Os M. pretenderam traçar um quadro da História da Alimentação, não como um novo ramo epistemológico da disciplina, mas como um campo em desenvolvimento de práticas e atividades especializadas, incluindo pesquisa, formação, publicações, associações, encontros acadêmicos, etc. Um breve relato das condições em que tal campo se assentou faz-se preceder de um panorama dos estudos de alimentação e temas correia tos, em geral, segundo cinco abardagens Ia biológica, a econômica, a social, a cultural e a filosófica!, assim como da identificação das contribuições mais relevantes da Antropologia, Arqueologia, Sociologia e Geografia. A fim de comentar a multiforme e volumosa bibliografia histórica, foi ela organizada segundo critérios morfológicos. A seguir, alguns tópicos importantes mereceram tratamento à parte: a fome, o alimento e o domínio religioso, as descobertas européias e a difusão mundial de alimentos, gosto e gastronomia. O artigo se encerra com um rápido balanço crítico da historiografia brasileira sobre o tema

    DESENVOLVIMENTO DE FONTES ALTERNATIVAS DE ENERGIA EM COMUNIDADE TRADICIONAL QUILOMBOLA DA REGIÃO DE PARATY-RJ

    O projeto Proext 2015 MEC Etnodesenvolvimento e Economia Solidária em uma Comunidade Quilombola na Região de Paraty –RJ, é fruto do resultado da pesquisa-ação realizada em 11 Estados e 105 comunidades quilombolas rurais, por meio de uma política pública - programa Brasil Local - SENAES/MTE, entre 2009 e 2013. Foi feita uma parceria entre a Coordenação Nacional de Articulação das Comunidades Negras Rurais Quilombolas - CONAQ e o Núcleo de Solidariedade Técnica - SOLTEC/UFRJ. Com os resultados positivos, em 2015 foi dada continuidade à pesquisa na região da Costa Verde. Atualmente está sendo desenvolvido na comunidade quilombola do Campinho da Independência, localizado a 20 quilômetros do município de Paraty, litoral sul do Rio de Janeiro.Com o intuito de promover o desenvolvimento regional por meio da pesquisa-ação e interação dialógica com os atores locais, o projeto se desmembra em várias frentes de pesquisa na prática extensionista, como o fomento à utilização de fontes alternativas de energia, educação com jovens da comunidade e trabalho em um modelo de gestão para auxílio dos empreendimentos de economia solidária existentes na comunidade quilombola.Comunidades isoladas costumam ter acesso precário à rede elétrica. Por conta disso um dos objetivos do projeto está em auxiliar o suprimento das carências energéticas do território fazendo uso de fontes renováveis. A experiência vivenciada em Campinho servirá como base para a utilização de matrizes energéticas similares em outras localidades.A metodologia utilizada conta com um preliminar mapeamento energético territorial de forma a obter a maior eficiência possível. As necessidades locais possibilitaram a criação de projetos de sistemas fotovoltaicos para iluminação das áreas públicas com a utilização de postes solares e suprimento de parte da carga das casas da comunidade com tecnologia similar. O processo para realização prática dos projetos está em andamento.Há constante diálogo com os moradores de forma a garantir que os projetos no âmbito de energia sejam construídos em conjunto. Visitas à campo periódicas estão previstas de forma a garantir o andamento das etapas do projeto, desde a primeira vivência até a instalação dos sistemas. A comunidade local participará de oficinas ministradas pelos bolsistas do projeto onde adquirem conhecimento mínimo para realizar a manutenção de defeitos ocasionais que possam acometer os circuitos, não se tornando dependentes da presença da Universidade para restabelecer o sistema
