A STUDY OF PRE OPERATION NURSING VISIT ABOUT THE NURSES VIEW FROM THE SURGERY ROOM OF A UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL.
This study to do an analysis of the PONV`s importance, by nurses from the Dailys SurgeryRoom of an University Hospital, through forms distributed to them and to apply the written communicationinstrument on the PONV,proposed by NORONHA & ARAĂJO (1995). The results this research were: 92,9% ofthe nurses from the Dailys Surgery Room think that it is important the performance of the PONV to the patientand Nursing aid, and 85,7% think the PONV is important for the nurse who works in a Surgery Room. Thewritten communication instrument on the PONV was applied with success, being really easy to fill it in with clearquestions , showing so to be a lot of viable but some items of the instrument like blood group and FATOR RHcouldnt be filled even after the records check. In this way, I think it is worth the suggestion o9f sitting the writtencommunication instrument proposed by ARAĂJO AND NORONHA (1995) at this State University, proposinghowever, inclusion on the patients records data about blood group and FATOR RH
ENSINO DA OFTALMOLOGĂA NA GRADUAĂĂO EM ENFERMAGEM - LEVANTAMENTO DA SITUAĂĂO NO BRASIL - 1987
This study aims to make a survey on the oftalmology nursing which is offered to the nursing university students. A questionnaire was sent to all the Brazilian nursing courses in which there are questions on the contents taught. Eighty-seven questionnaires were sent out and 76 (87,36%) were received. The results show that 55,26% of the schools include oftalmology subjects in their curriculum, but in only 14,28% of these schools some topics related to blindness prevention were mentioned. In the Brazilian and foreign bibliography researched we have not found any study about the preparation of nurses in preventive oftalmology. Through the analysis of the data obtained in this study, we hope that the nursing professors will think about the relevance of including preventive oftalmology when preparing nurses to be educators and health care professionals.
The purpose of this study was to define: the profile of patients with mitral valve dysfunction (stenosis and/or insufficiency) who were assisted at the University Outpatients' Clinic, the knowledge that these patients had concerning their disorder and the main difficulties and limitations resulting from it. The necessary data were obtained by interviewing 29 patients from November 1997 to February 1998. An analysis was conducted through the Content Analysis Technique. The results obtained helped to understand the problem under the individual's and his family's viewpoint, which helped to elaborate a nursing care program with an educational focus.Este estudio tuvo como finalidad caracterizar el perfil del paciente con valvulopatĂa mitral identificar su conocimiento sobre la enfermedad y levantar las principales dificultades enfrentadas en su dĂa a dĂa. European policies and legislation targeting ocean acidification in european waters - Current state
Ocean acidification (OA) is a global problem with profoundly negative environmental, social and economic consequences. From a governance perspective, there is a need to ensure a coordinated effort to directly address it. This study reviews 90 legislative documents from 17 countries from the European Economic Area (EEA) and the UK that primarily border the sea. The primary finding from this study is that the European national policies and legislation addressing OA is at best uncoordinated. Although OA is acknowledged at the higher levels of governance, its status as an environmental challenge is greatly diluted at the European Union Member State level. As a notable exception within the EEA, Norway seems to have a proactive approach towards legislative frameworks and research aimed towards further understanding OA. On the other hand, there was a complete lack of, or inadequate reporting in the Marine Strategy Framework Directive by the majority of the EU Member States, with the exception of Italy and the Netherlands. We argue that the problems associated with OA and the solutions needed to address it are unique and cannot be bundled together with traditional climate change responses and measures. Therefore, European OA-related policy and legislation must reflect this and tailor their actions to mitigate OA to safeguard marine ecosystems and societies. A stronger and more coordinated approach is needed to build environmental, economic and social resilience of the observed and anticipated changes to the coastal marine systems
Childhood socioeconomic position and objectively measured physical capability levels in adulthood: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Background: Grip strength, walking speed, chair rising and standing balance time are objective measures of physical capability that characterise current health and predict survival in older populations. Socioeconomic position (SEP) in childhood may influence the peak level of physical capability achieved in early adulthood, thereby affecting levels in later adulthood. We have undertaken a systematic review with meta-analyses to test the hypothesis that adverse childhood SEP is associated with lower levels of objectively measured physical capability in adulthood.

Methods and Findings: Relevant studies published by May 2010 were identified through literature searches using EMBASE and MEDLINE. Unpublished results were obtained from study investigators. Results were provided by all study investigators in a standard format and pooled using random-effects meta-analyses. 19 studies were included in the review. Total sample sizes in meta-analyses ranged from N = 17,215 for chair rise time to N = 1,061,855 for grip strength. Although heterogeneity was detected, there was consistent evidence in age adjusted models that lower childhood SEP was associated with modest reductions in physical capability levels in adulthood: comparing the lowest with the highest childhood SEP there was a reduction in grip strength of 0.13 standard deviations (95% CI: 0.06, 0.21), a reduction in mean walking speed of 0.07 m/s (0.05, 0.10), an increase in mean chair rise time of 6% (4%, 8%) and an odds ratio of an inability to balance for 5s of 1.26 (1.02, 1.55). Adjustment for the potential mediating factors, adult SEP and body size attenuated associations greatly. However, despite this attenuation, for walking speed and chair rise time, there was still evidence of moderate associations.

Conclusions: Policies targeting socioeconomic inequalities in childhood may have additional benefits in promoting the maintenance of independence in later life.

Exome and Tissue-Associated Microbiota as Predictive Markers of Response to Neoadjuvant Treatment in Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer
The clinical and pathological responses to multimodal neoadjuvant therapy in locally advanced rectal cancers (LARCs) remain unpredictable, and robust biomarkers are still lacking. Recent studies have shown that tumors present somatic molecular alterations related to better treatment response, and it is also clear that tumor-associated bacteria are modulators of chemotherapy and immunotherapy efficacy, therefore having implications for long-term survivorship and a good potential as the biomarkers of outcome. Here, we performed whole exome sequencing and 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) amplicon sequencing from 44 pre-treatment LARC biopsies from Argentinian and Brazilian patients, treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy or total neoadjuvant treatment, searching for predictive biomarkers of response (responders, n = 17; non-responders, n = 27). In general, the somatic landscape of LARC was not capable to predict a response; however, a significant enrichment in mutational signature SBS5 was observed in non-responders (p = 0.0021), as well as the co-occurrence of APC and FAT4 mutations (p < 0.05). Microbiota studies revealed a similar alpha and beta diversity of bacteria between response groups. Yet, the linear discriminant analysis (LDA) of effect size indicated an enrichment of Hungatella, Flavonifractor, and Methanosphaera (LDA score â„3) in the pre-treatment biopsies of responders, while non-responders had a higher abundance of Enhydrobacter, Paraprevotella (LDA score â„3) and Finegoldia (LDA score â„4). Altogether, the evaluation of these biomarkers in pre-treatment biopsies could eventually predict a neoadjuvant treatment response, while in post-treatment samples, it could help in guiding non-operative treatment strategies.Fil: Takenaka, Isabella Kuniko T.
