Characterization of the Different Oils Obtained through the Catalytic In Situ Pyrolysis of Polyethylene Film from Municipal Solid Waste
This work is part of the project PID2019-108826RB-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033.Nowadays, the thermal and catalytic decomposition of plastic wastes by pyrolysis is one of
the best alternatives to convert these wastes into quality fuel oils, thus replenishing some petroleum
resources. This work studied the catalytic pyrolysis of polyethylene film waste from the remaining
organic fraction on different catalysts under dynamic operating conditions in a batch reactor. These
catalysts have been characterized through isotherms of adsorption-desorption with N2 and X-ray
powder diffraction for structural characterization to see the differences in their use. The results
obtained have been compared with the pyrolysis of the same material without a catalyst. Special
attention has been paid to the similarities and differences with thermal pyrolysis. The characterization
of the liquid fraction, including physical and chemical properties, has been carried out. The liquid
yield varies from 37 to 43%; it has good calorific values of 46–48 MJ/kg, an average density of
0.82 g/cm3, and a fairly low viscosity compared to the product without the catalyst. Other properties
like the American Petroleum Institute (API) gravity or pH were also determined and found to be
similar to conventional fuels. Oils are mainly composed of paraffins, naphthenes, and aromatic
hydrocarbons. The general distribution of carbons is C7 to C31. Finally, a detailed analysis of the
composition of liquid products shows they present heavy naphtha, kerosene, and diesel fractions in
different proportions in the function of the catalyst used.PID2019-108826RB-I00MCIN/AEI/10.13039/50110001103
Interferogram decodification on Nios II soft-core
This paper describes the implementation of an interferogram decoding system based on a Nios II embedded microprocessor. The interferograms are obtained by using the classical Michelson Interferometer configured as the four step phase shifting profiler. This work includes the phase unwrapping solution implemented with the minimum norm method and the SoPC architecture developed with C and Verilog languages. The processing system was successfully implemented on the Nios II in a Cyclone IV FPGA. We found that the system needs an application specific hardware accelerator to improve its performance, but regardless this drawback, its capacity to unwrap is similar to other state of the art techniques
ABSTRACT
Background: Through experience it has been accepted that bile in normal conditions remainssterile. Bactibilia is a common finding in individuals at high risk or with complicated cholecys-tolithiasis, however few data prevails about the prevalence of bactibilia in patients operatedon for uncomplicated laparoscopic cholecystectomy. There is s common usage of preopera-tive and postoperative antibiotics in the different patients without the existence of any actualbacteriologic and epidemiologic evidence.Material and methods:183 patients with diagnosis of cholecystolithiasis postoperated of lapa-roscopic cholecystectomy had their bile sent to bacteriology. Results: Bactibilia was identified in 31.95% of the cultures of mild cholecystitis and in 35.71%for moderate (p < .0001). A total of 125 negative cultures were obtained (68.3) and 58 positive(31.69%) with a prevalence of enterobacteria group (43.10%) and Enterococcus (27.58).Conclusions: Comparing the groups according to severity there is a significant difference withregard to the presence of bactibilia, in addition to the bacterial groups cultivated. Fluoroqui-nolones and metronidazole is an option for the treatment of patients with the suspicion ofbactibilia. The use of antibiotics is not justified in patients at low risk.© 2016 Published by Masson Doyma M´exico S.A. on behalf of Academia Mexicana de Cirug´ıa A.C.This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/)
Estimation and its determinants of total productivity changes of Peru factors 1980 -2019
There are several ways to explain a country's economic growth in both the long and medium term. One of the best approaches to this is Total Factor Productivity (TFP). In Peru, it has been observed that productivity has seen a sharp drop in recent years, leading to a major slowdown in economic growth and bringing it well below its potential level. Therefore, the main objective of the research focuses on the need to determine peru's TFP within the analysis period of 1980-2019. With this, it will be possible to find the determinants of economic growth for both the medium and long term. To achieve the objective, various correlation analyses will be carried out between economic growth, explained with the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and important macroeconomic variables such as investment and consumption. Investment will be found to be the variable that will be correlated with GDP. Therefore, it will be concluded that the private sector will stand out from the rest of the sectors. Then, the promotion of investment should influence the rest of the sectors of the country such as consumption and external. On the other hand, it should be noted that public spending will not influence GDP. Finally, the TFP will demonstrate that the consumption of intermediate and final goods will be of great importance for the country's growth
Matching microscopic and macroscopic responses in glasses
We first reproduce on the Janus and Janus II computers a milestone experiment that measures the spin glass coherence length through the lowering of free-energy barriers induced by the Zeeman effect. Secondly, we determine the scaling behavior that allows a quantitative analysis of a new experiment reported in the companion Letter [S. Guchhait and R. Orbach, Phys. Rev. Lett. 118, 157203 (2017)]. The value of the coherence length estimated through the analysis of microscopic correlation functions turns out to be quantitatively consistent with its measurement through macroscopic response functions. Further, nonlinear susceptibilities, recently measured in glass-forming liquids, scale as powers of the same microscopic length.• European Research Council. Beca No. NPRGGLASS. High triglyceride to HDL-cholesterol ratio as a biochemical marker of severe outcomes in COVID-19 patients
Background & aims
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients with severe complications have shown comorbidities with cardiovascular-disease, hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus; clinical disorders that share the common metabolic alterations of insulin resistance and dyslipidaemia. A high triglyceride to high density lipoprotein cholesterol (Tg/HDL c) ratio has been associated with reduced insulin sensitivity, metabolic syndrome and adverse cardiovascular events. Our aim in this study was to determine the association between different components of the lipid profile and particularly the Tg/HDL c ratio with severe complications like the requirement of invasive mechanical ventilation in COVID-19 patients.
Methods
We collected demographic, clinical and biochemical data to conduct a cohort study in 43 adult patients with confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) at baseline and in the subsequent 15 days. Patients were subjected to a very similar treatment scheme with the JAK1/2 inhibitor ruxolitinib. Descriptive statistics, variable association and logistic regression were applied to identify predictors of disease severity among elements and calculations from the lipid profile.
Results
Patients were aged 57 ± 14 years; 55.8% were male from which 75% required hospitalization and 44.2% were female who 58% were hospitalized. The most common comorbidities were type 2 diabetes mellitus (58%) and hypertension (40%). Hospitalized and critical care patients showed lower HDL c blood levels and increased Tg/HDL c ratio than those with outpatient management and mild/asymptomatic COVID-19. Tg/HDL c ratio correlated with variables of disease severity such as lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels (r = 0.356; p < 0.05); National Early Warning Score 2 (NEWS 2) (r = 0.495; p < 0.01); quick sequential organ failure assessment (qSOFA) (r = 0.538; p < 0.001); increased need of oxygen support (r = 0.447; p < 0.01) and requirement of mechanical ventilation (r = 0.378; p < 0.05). Tg/HDL c ratio had a negative correlation with partial oxygen saturation/fraction of inspired oxygen (SaO 2/FiO2) ratio (r = −0.332;p < 0.05). Linear regression analysis showed that Tg/HDL c ratio can predict increases in inflammatory factors like LDH (p < 0.01); ferritin (p < 0.01) and D-dimer (p < 0.001). Logistic regression model indicated that ≥7.45 Tg/HDL c ratio predicts requirement of invasive mechanical ventilation (OR 11.815, CI 1.832–76.186, p < 0.01).
Conclusions
The Tg/HDLc ratio can be used as an early biochemical marker of COVID-19 severe prognosis with requirement of invasive mechanical ventilation
