Reciprocal Teaching is an instructional activity that takes place between students and teachers while reading segments of text. The dialogue is lead by the actions of predicting, clarifying, questioning, and summarizing. The teachers trains the students in the four actions, or strategies, and then gradually releases responsibility to the students according to their maturity and readiness levels. The purpose of this paper was to examine how three teachers from a school district in Minnesota used the concept of Reciprocal Teaching in their classrooms. The first objective was to discover how each teacher defined the concept. From there the researched focused on what aspects of the strategy each teacher felt was most useful, how they modified the concepts to fit their individual teaching styles, and what activities they chose to use to integrate Reciprocal Teaching into their cumiculum. The findings indicated that all three teachers defined the strategy in a similar wdy, used similar strategies with their students, but differed in their modifications due to age and maturity levels of their students. They all found that there were limitations to the strategy, but agreed that they will continue using the concepts with their students and would like to see others do so as well

páginasThe research presents the importance of developing environmental conscience since the early childhood, in which greater receptivity and commitment by children is perceived. Emphasis is placed on the use of the soil, through the school garden and the processes required to prepare it for successful sowing and harvesting, which is surrounded by significant experiences where children are the managers of learning. A didactic proposal that synthesize the different rhythms and styles of learning, to be able to offer a space that allows to develop: “know how to be, know how to do, know how to live together”. (Ceballos &Zapata, 2010). The research was “quasi-experimental” with qualitative data analysis and group selection by convenience, with a total of 24 first-grade students who were the fundamental basis for the change of environmental´s behaviors. The proposal was developed in 9 sessions that involved the recognition of the surrounding environment, ground waste, eco – consumption, healthy food, composting, school garden and visit to an experimental farm among others. The proposal allowed and approach to families, behavior changes and pro-environmental habits and a proposal to work with the elementary school through the leadership of some first grade studentsLa investigación presenta la importancia de desarrollar la conciencia ambiental desde la primera infancia, en la cual se percibe mayor receptividad y compromiso por parte de los niños.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a group of neurodevelopmental disorders primarily characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted repetitive behaviors and interests. Ligands of histamine receptor 3 (H3R) are considered potential therapeutic agents for the treatment of different brain disorders and cognitive impairments. Considering this, the aim of the present study is to evaluate the actions of ciproxifan (CPX), an H3R antagonist, on the animal model of autism induced by prenatal exposure to valproic acid (VPA). Swiss mice were prenatally exposed to VPA on embryonic day 11 and assessed for social behavior, nociceptive threshold and repetitive behavior at 50 days of life. The treatment with CPX (3 mg/kg) or saline was administered 30 minutes before each behavioral test. The VPA group presented lower sociability index compared to VPA animals that were treated with CPX. Compared to the Control group, VPA animals presented a significantly higher nociceptive threshold, and treatment with CPX was not able to modify this parameter. In the marble burying test, the number of marbles buried by VPA animals was consistent with markedly repetitive behavior. VPA animals that received CPX buried a reduced amount of marbles. In summary, we report that an acute dose of CPX is able to attenuate sociability deficits and stereotypies present in the VPA model of autism. Our findings have the potential to help the investigations of both the molecular underpinnings of ASD and of possible treatments to ameliorate the ASD symptomatology, although more research is still necessary to corroborate and expand this initial data

Objective: To carry out an integrative literature review on oral health programs for schoolchildren in the national and international context in the last 10 years. Methods: A search was carried out in 2020 in the PubMed, SciELO and Portal BVS databases. Inclusion criteria was articles in English, Portuguese and Spanish, available online in full, from 2010 to 2020. The descriptors were searched in English and Portuguese, as follows: “Education in oral health”, “Health promotion oral”. “Programs”, “Preventive Dentistry”, “Schools”. Results: Fourteen articles were selected, the majority carried out in Brazil (9), using the epidemiological intervention study (10), and programs aimed at schoolchildren aged 6 to 11 years (10) as methodology. Most programs found positive results regarding the participants’ oral hygiene, knowledge about oral health and changing habits considered harmful to oral health, such as not using dental floss. Final considerations: Oral health programs aimed at schoolchildren represent important and effective strategies for the control of oral health problems, contributing to the quality of life of children and adolescents.Objetivo: Realizar una revisión integrativa de la literatura sobre los programas de salud bucal para escolares en el contexto nacional e internacional, en los últimos 10 años. Educating the smart city:Schooling smart citizens through computational urbanism

    Get PDF
Coupled with the ‘smart city’, the idea of the ‘smart school’ is emerging in imaginings of the future of education. Various commercial, governmental and civil society organizations now envisage education as a highly coded, software-mediated and data-driven social institution. Such spaces are to be governed through computational processes written in computer code and tracked through big data. In an original analysis of developments from commercial, governmental and civil society sectors, the article examines two interrelated dimensions of an emerging smart schools imaginary: (1) the constant flows of digital data that smart schools depend on and the mobilization of analytics that enable student data to be used to anticipate and shape their behaviours; and (2) the ways that young people are educated to become ‘computational operatives’ who must ‘learn to code’ in order to become ‘smart citizens’ in the governance of the smart city. These developments constitute an emerging educational space fabricated from intersecting standards, technologies, discourses and social actors, all infused with the aspirations of technical experts to govern the city at a distance through both monitoring young people as ‘data objects’ and schooling them as active ‘computational citizens’ with the responsibility to compute the future of the city
