Get PDFBased on Barbara Ehrenreich\u27s best-seller about her exploration of low-wage life, Joan Holden\u27s stage adaptation is a focused comic epic shadowed by tragedy. Barbara is prepared for hard work but not, at 55, for the incredible difficulties she faces while working minimum wage jobs as she struggles to make ends meet. The bright glimpses of Barbara\u27s co-workers that enliven the book become indelible portraits of working-class Americans. These characters wage their life struggles with a gallantry that humbles Barbara and the audience. The play shows us the life a third of working Americans now lead and makes us angry that anyone should have to live it.
