Monte Carlo Valuation of natural gas investments

This paper deals with the valuation of energy assets related to natural gas. In particular, we evaluate a baseload Natural Gas Combined Cycle (NGCC) power plant and an ancillary instalation, namely a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility, in a realistic setting; specifically, these investments enjoy a long useful life but require some non-negligible time to build. Then we focus on the valuation of several investment options again in a realistic setting. These include the option to invest in the power plant when there is uncertainty concerning the initial outlay, or the option's time to maturity, or the cost of CO2 emission permits, or when there is a chance to double the plant size in the future. Our model comprises three sources of risk. We consider uncertain gas prices with regard to both the current level and the long-run equilibrium level; the current electricity price is also uncertain. They all are assumed to show mean reversion. The two-factor model for natural gas price is calibrated using data from NYMEX NG futures contracts. Also, we calibrate the one-factor model for electricity price using data from the Spanish wholesale electricity market, respectively. Then we use the estimated parameter values alongside actual physical parameters from a case study to value natural gas plants. Finally, the calibrated parameters are also used in a Monte Carlo simulation framework to evaluate several American-type options to invest in these energy assets. Valuing Flexibility: The case of an Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle Power Plant

In this paper we analyze the valuation of options stemming from the flexibility in an Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) Power Plant. First we use as a base case the opportunity to invest in a Natural Gas Combined Cycle (NGCC) Power Plant, deriving the optimal investment rule as a function of fuel price and the remaining life of the right to invest. Additionally, the analytical solution for a perpetual option is obtained. Second, the valuation of an operating IGCC Power Plant is studied, with switching costs between states and a choice of the best operation mode. The valuation of this plant serves as a base to obtain the value of the option to delay an investment of this type. Finally, we derive the value of an opportunity to invest either in a NGCC or IGCC Power Plant, that is, to choose between an inflexible and a flexible technology, respectively. Numerical computations involve the use of one- and two-dimensional binomial lattices that support a mean-reverting process for the fuel prices. Income risk of EU coal-fired power plants after Kyoto

Coal-fired power plants may enjoy a significant advantage relative to gas plants in terms of cheaper fuel cost. Still, this advantage may erode or even turn into disadvantage depending on CO2 emission allowance price. This price will presumably rise in both the Kyoto Protocol commitment period (2008-2012) and the first post-Kyoto years. Thus, in a carbon-constrained environment, coal plants face financial risks arising in their profit margins, which in turn hinge on their so-called "clean dark spread". These risks are further reinforced when the price of the output electricity is determined by natural gas-fired plants' marginal costs, which differ from coal plants' costs. We aim to assess the risks in coal plants' margins. We adopt parameter values estimated from empirical data. These in turn are derived from natural gas and electricity markets alongside the EU ETS market where emission allowances are traded. Monte Carlo simulation allows to compute the expected value and risk profile of coal-based electricity generation. We focus on the clean dark spread in both time periods under different future scenarios in the allowance market. Specifically, bottom 5% and 10% percentiles are derived. Accessibility dynamics and regional cross-border cooperation (CBC) perspectives in the portuguese—spanish borderland

Accessibility plays a major role in achieving sustainable transport, and therefore urban and regional sustainability. The urban public transport system promotes mobility and realizes a large part of urban movements. Moreover, improving accessibility in order to promote sustainable transport requires the application of new concepts and indicators as a powerful tool in the process of creating a balanced urban transport system. In this regard, one of the main goals of this research is to present an overview of the relevant accessibility indicators and assessment of accessibility in regional Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) in order to transcendence challenges and obstacles for sustainable transportation in these regions along of Portuguese-Spanish border. This paper focuses on the accessibility of cross-border cooperation scenarios along the border regions of Alto Alentejo (Portugal) and Badajoz (Spain) where the Case Study Research Method (CSR) made it possible to recognize accessibility as a key factor in territorial success. Also, accessibility analysis can assess improvements as well as regional imbalances. Estudio antropológico de la Tumba 21 de la necrópolis de "El Ruedo" (Almedinilla, Córdoba)

In this paper, we have studied a tomb, n° 21, from the Spanish-roman necropole called "El Ruedo". This necropole is situated in Almedinilla (Córdoba) and is dated late III to early IV century BC. In this tomb we have found a mature male, 160 cm tall. The most outstanding features of these remains are their different orientation and the position of his extremities.El presente estudio corresponde a una tumba, la n° 21, de la necrópolis hispanorromana de "El Ruedo", situada en Almedinilla, provincia de Córdoba. De época tardorromana, dicha tumba data de finales del siglo III o principios del siglo IV d.C. Corresponde a un individuo varón de edad madura y de aproximadamente 160 cm de estatura. Las características más resaltables son: la direrente orientación en la necrópolis respecto del resto de las tumbas, así como la posición de sus extremidades

Cuidados enfermeros en urgencias oftalmológicas por traumas oculares

Los traumas oculares representan el 3% de las urgencias que se atienden en los servicios de urgencias y el 49% del total de las oftalmológicas. Los enfermeros de urgencias deben disponer de conocimientos suficientes sobre el trauma ocular y sus cuidados para atender los diagnósticos de enfermería y los problemas de colaboración. El objetivo de este trabajo es revisar las intervenciones enfermeras más habituales en los traumas oculares atendidos en urgencias. La metodología empleada ha sido una revisión bibliográfica sobre los cuidados enfermeros asociados a los traumas oculares atendidos en urgencias, utilizando diferentes bases de datos para con el objetivo de identificar los artículos y publicaciones más relevantes sobre el tema publicados desde 2008 hasta 2019. Los cuidados enfermeros más habituales en traumatismos oculares son la extracción de cuerpos extraños, la irrigación ocular, la oclusión, la cura de lesiones periorbitarias, la administración de medicación oftálmica y la educación sanitaria del paciente. Todos ellos se han mostrado eficaces, excepto la oclusión ocular sobre la que no existe consenso suficiente. Tampoco se han hallado estudios que evidencien la relación entre las intervenciones educativas y la prevención del trauma ocular. En conclusión, los enfermeros deben tener unos conocimientos adecuados sobre los traumatismos oculares y sus cuidados para poder prestar una atención eficaz en urgencias. Análisis dogmático y hermenéutico de los derechos de los terceros de buena fe en el proceso de restitución de tierras colombiano

Artículo de investigaciónCon la presente investigación jurídica se pretende analizar por medio del método dogmático y hermenéutico el vacio normativo que posee la Ley de Restitución de Tierras en cuanto a la protección de los derechos que fueron adquiridos por los poseedores buena fe al ejercer la declaración de pertenencia establecida en el artículo 375 del Código General del Proceso de bienes inmuebles en los cuales residían víctimas de conflicto armado colombiano, pues no regula ni establece ningún tipo de protección legal para aquellas personas que de buena fe adquirieron bienes inmuebles por medio de mencionada acción sin tener conocimiento de que estos eran producto del desplazamiento o despojo armado, lo cual ha generado una dispendiosa disputa legal encaminada a tener el justo título de dichos bienes.
