    Scientific Production in Children\u27s Literature Through the Web of Science

    Children\u27s literature has raised the interest of different disciplines and has strongly emerged not only in society but also in school and university curricula. This paper aims to analyse production in children\u27s literature and determine the discipline\u27s scientific activity published in International scientific journals indexed in the Web of Science. A total of 1,558 papers published in 474 journals were retrieved. The results show an increase in the number of papers on children\u27s literature over time. Document typology was highly diverse, scientific articles and book reviews accounting for more than 85% of the total production. Lion and the Unicorn, Children\u27s Literature in Education, and International Research in Children\u27s Literature were the journals with the highest production. The journals analysed were classified under 96 different subject categories, Literature and Educational research being the areas with the largest number of publications

    Short-Time Estimation of Fractionation in Atrial Fibrillation with Coarse-Grained Correlation Dimension for Mapping the Atrial Substrate

    [EN] Atrial ¿brillation (AF) is currently the most common cardiac arrhythmia, with catheter ablation (CA) of the pulmonary veins (PV) being its ¿rst line therapy. Ablation of complex fractionated atrial electrograms (CFAEs) outside the PVs has demonstrated improved long-term results, but their identi¿cation requires a reliable electrogram (EGM) fractionation estimator. This study proposes a technique aimed to assist CA procedures under real-time settings. The method has been tested on three groups of recordings: Group 1 consisted of 24 highly representative EGMs, eight of each belonging to a different AF Type. Group 2 contained the entire dataset of 119 EGMs, whereas Group 3 contained 20 pseudo-real EGMs of the special Type IV AF. Coarse-grained correlation dimension (CGCD) was computed at epochs of 1 s duration, obtaining a classi¿cation accuracy of 100% in Group 1 and 84.0¿85.7% in Group 2, using 10-fold cross-validation. The receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analysis for highly fractionated EGMs, showed 100% speci¿city and sensitivity in Group 1 and 87.5% speci¿city and 93.6% sensitivity in Group 2. In addition, 100% of the pseudo-real EGMs were correctly identi¿ed as Type IV AF. This method can consistently express the fractionation level of AF EGMs and provides better performance than previous works.     Cancer diagnosis in Catalonia (Spain) after two years of COVID-19 pandemic: an incomplete recovery

    Background: This study aimed to estimate potential undetected cancers over the first 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic in Catalonia. Methods: Cancer incidence was compared between pre-pandemic (2019) and pandemic (March 2020-January 2022) periods in the Catalan Pathology Registry (CPR) according to sex, age, and tumor site. The correlation between cancer diagnosis and COVID-19 health care workload was also evaluated by means of the Pearson's correlation coefficient (R). The expected incident cancers (E) during the pandemic were estimated by applying 2019 CPR cancer incidence specific rates by sex and 5-year age groups to the 2020 and 2021 Catalan population pyramids. CPR incident cancers were considered observed (O). Standardized incidence ratios (SIR) and 95% confidence intervals (as) were calculated using the 0/E ratio. Results: After two pandemic years, cancer diagnosis decreased by 12% (SIR 0.88, 95% a 0.87-0.89), or similar to 7700 undetected cancers (13 000 with nonmelanoma skin cancer). Without nonmelanoma skin cancer, 72% of the cancer underdiagnosis was generated in 2020. Diagnoses decreased more in men (whole pandemic -14%; 2020 -21%; 2021 8%) than in women (---9%, 19%, 3%, respectively), dropping significantly overall in all pandemic waves but the fifth (first -37%, second -16%, third -8%, fourth -6%, fifth -2%, sixth -6%), and across all adult age groups. In the first wave, CPR cancer diagnosis was inversely correlated with COVID-19 caseload in primary care (R -0.91, 95% CI -0.97 to -0.75) and occupancy in conventional hospital wards (R -0.91, 95% a -0.99 to -0.48) and intensive care (R 0.91, 95% a 95% 0.98 to 0.70). Conclusions: Our study evaluated the overall pandemic impact on cancer diagnosis on a large scale and with minimal selection bias, showing that as of February 2022, cancer detection in Catalonia had not yet recovered to pre-pandemic levels. Pending cancer incidence data from population-based cancer registries, early CPR data could inform the development of Spanish cancer control plans

    An overview of rice cultivation in Spain and the management of herbicide-resistant weeds

    Spain is the second highest rice-producing country in the European Union, with approximately 105, 000 ha used to grow this crop. The major rice-producing regions in Spain are Andalusia, Extremadura, Catalonia, and Valencia, followed by Aragon and Navarre. The main soil texture throughout Spanish rice areas is silty clay loam, with alkaline soils (pH > 7.5)—except in the Extremadura area (pH = 5.5–6)—and a low organic matter content. Water quality in terms of salinity is acceptable, although in some coastal rice areas salinity issues occasionally appear to be a determining factor for high yield achievement. According to a survey carried out on farmers and technicians, the most problematic weeds found in rice crops today in Spain are Echinochloa spp., Leptochloa spp., and Cyperus difformis. Most of the currently authorized herbicides can be classified according to two modes of action: ALS-inhibiting and ACCase-inhibiting. Repeated field applications of herbicides with the same mode of action have resulted in the selection of herbicide-resistant weeds. At present, resistance has been confirmed in different regions of Spain to ALS inhibitors in Echinochloa spp., Leptochloa spp., and Cyperus difformis, and to ACCase inhibitors in Echinochloa spp. and Leptochloa spp. The mechanism of resistance in these species is a mutation in the target site of these herbicides. Several mutations have been found in the ALS gene, both in Echinochloa spp. and Cyperus difformis, distributed in the different rice-growing regions considered in this work. ACCase gene mutations have been mainly found in Leptochloa spp. individuals from Extremadura and Valencia. These different mutations have resulted in different patterns of cross-resistance to ALS- and ACCase-inhibiting herbicides. It is likely that the repeated use of these two modes of action in rice will result in the evolution of more resistant weed populations. The possible availability of new herbicides with alternative modes of action in a short space of time seems very limited, suggesting the need for a more appropriate use of the available alternative strategies (crop rotation, dry sowing, manual weeding, etc.). This work presents a review of the main characteristics of rice cultivation in Spain, emphasizing the current problems in this crop and the management of herbicide-resistant weeds. © 2021 by the authors

    Editorial.[EN]: Celebrating forty years of unbroken publication of the Revista Española de Drogodependencias (RED) in 2016 is the excuse put forward to look through the history of this journal and its development as regards its objectives, editorial policy, format and presentation. Over all these years, in which new journals have been seen to come out and some indeed disappear as a result of the difficult situation which publishing scientific texts in Spain is going through, the RED has managed to adapt to the new times and improve the criteria for evaluating the quality of journals, drawing this increasingly closer to international standards.[ES]: La celebración de los 40 años de edición ininterrumpida de la Revista Española de Drogodependencias (RED) en 2016 sirve de pretexto para repasar la historia de esta revista y su evolución en lo referente a objetivos, política editorial, formato y presentación.     Confiabilidad de las Ondas de Activación Local para Evaluar el Sustrato Auricular de Pacientes con Fibrilación Auricular Paroxística

    [ES] El análisis de electrogramas (EGMs) del seno coronario (SC) durante la ablación por catérer (AC) de fibrilación auricular (FA) es clave para la evaluación del sustrato auricular. No obstante, los canales del catéter de registro suelen verse afectados por mal contacto y por el movimiento cardíaco. Este trabajo estudia los canales más fiables para preservar las dinámicas de la FA durante el ritmo sinusal (RS). Se han empleado 44 registros bipolares multicanal del SC de 60-300 segundos de 28 pacientes con FA paroxística sometidos a AC. Cada registro contenía cinco canales: distal, medio-distal, medio, medio-proximal, proximal. En cada canal se calcularon características de las ondas de activación local (OALs): duración, área y correlación entre morfologías dominantes. Se han utilizado los tests de KruskalWallis, Mann-Whitney y Mann-Whitney con corrección de Bonferroni para la comparación multicanal, por pares y uno frente a los demás, respectivamente. El canal distal presentó resultados menos fiables, con OALs de duración larga (p = 0,047), amplitud baja (pmax < 0,003) y menos área (pmax < 0,020) y con correlación entre sus OALs y las OALs del canal proximal relativamente baja (85,57 %). Las OALs entre los canales medio y medio-próximal fueron más consistentes, con correlación entre sus OALs muy altas (95,02 %), presentando además duración más corta (p = 0,084) y amplitud (pmax < 0,050) y áreas mayores (pmax < 0,070).     Verificación Sobre la Estabilidad de Electrogramas Fragmentados para la Caracterización del Sustrato Auricular en Pacientes con Fibrilación Auricular

    [ES] Para caracterizar el sustrato auricular en fibrilacion auricular (FA) se ha investigado un amplio numero de indices aplicados a electrogramas auriculares fragmentados complejos (CFAE). Sin embargo, se ha obviado la evaluacion de su calidad, asi como de su estabilidad interna (intra-canal) e intra-paciente. Este trabajo evalua la estabilidad intracanal e intra-paciente de 204 CFAEs bipolares de FA registrados en pacientes con FA paroxistica (n = 15) y persistente (n = 19) aplicando indices no lineales. Para estimar las diferencias entre los CFAEs se ha utilizado el coeficiente de variacion (CV) de la entropia muestral (SE) y el determinismo (DET) del analisis de cuantificacion de recurrencias (RQA) de los datos. Ademas, tambien se analizaron las variaciones introducidas al descartar los segmentos de CFAEs ruidosos y con artefactos. El analisis intra-canal reporto una variacion significativa del CV( %) para cualquier longitud de segmento analizado tanto para DET como para SE al descartar segmentos ruidosos, habiendo mayores disminuciones para segmentos mas largos. Ademas, se observaron grandes variaciones de CV( %) para DET y SE en cualquier longitud de segmento en el analisis intra-paciente, pero en este caso, el descarte de segmentos ruidosos no mejoro resultados. La prueba de Kruskal-Wallis reporto diferencias estadisticamente significativas para DET y SE entre canales, independientemente del proceso de descarte.     Aedes albopictus diversity and relationships in south-western Europe and Brazil by rDNA/mtDNA and phenotypic analyses: ITS-2, a useful marker for spread studies

    Background: Aedes albopictus is a very invasive mosquito, which has recently colonized tropical and temperate regions worldwide. Of concern is its role in the spread of emerging or re-emerging mosquito-borne diseases. Ae. albopictus from south-western Europe and Brazil were studied to infer genetic and phenetic diversity at intra-individual, intra-population and inter-population levels, and to analyse its spread. Methods: Genotyping was made by rDNA 5.8S-ITS-2 and mtDNA cox1 sequencing to assess haplotype and nucleotide diversity, genetic distances and phylogenetic networks. Male and female phenotyping included combined landmark-and outlined-based geometric morphometrics of wing size and shape. Results: Specimens from seven populations from Spain, France and Brazil provided 12 cox1 and 162 5.8S-ITS-2 haplotypes, with great genetic variability difference between both markers (0.9% vs 31.2%). Five cox1 haplotypes were shared with other countries, mainly Italy, USA and China, but none was shared between Europe and Brazil. The 5.8S-ITS-2 showed 2–7 intra-individual (mean 4.7) and 16–34 intra-/inter-population haplotypes (24.7), including haplotypes shared between Spain, France and Brazil. A 4.3% of ITS-2 haplotypes were shared, mainly with Italy, USA and Thailand, evidencing worldwide spread and introductions from areas where recent outbreaks of Ae. albopictus-transmitted pathogens occurred. Wing size showed sex differences. Wing shape distinguished between Brazilian and European specimens. Both genetic and morphometric markers showed differences between insular Spain and continental Spain, France and Brazil. Conclusions: ITS-2 proves to be a useful marker to assess Ae. albopictus spread, providing pronouncedly more information than cox1, including intra-individual, intra-population and inter-population levels, furnishing a complete overview of the evolutionary exchanges followed by this mosquito. Wing morphometry proves to be a useful phenotyping marker, allowing to distinguish different populations at the level of both male and female specimens. Results indicate the need for periodic surveillance monitorings to verify that no Ae. albopictus with high virus transmission capacity is introduced into Europe.     Phylogenetic relationships of cone snails endemic to Cabo Verde based on mitochondrial genomes

    Background: Due to their great species and ecological diversity as well as their capacity to produce hundreds of different toxins, cone snails are of interest to evolutionary biologists, pharmacologists and amateur naturalists alike. Taxonomic identification of cone snails still relies mostly on the shape, color, and banding patterns of the shell. However, these phenotypic traits are prone to homoplasy. Therefore, the consistent use of genetic data for species delimitation and phylogenetic inference in this apparently hyperdiverse group is largely wanting. Here, we reconstruct the phylogeny of the cones endemic to Cabo Verde archipelago, a well-known radiation of the group, using mitochondrial (mt) genomes. Results: The reconstructed phylogeny grouped the analyzed species into two main clades, one including Kalloconus from West Africa sister to Trovaoconus from Cabo Verde and the other with a paraphyletic Lautoconus due to the sister group relationship of Africonus from Cabo Verde and Lautoconus ventricosus from Mediterranean Sea and neighboring Atlantic Ocean to the exclusion of Lautoconus endemic to Senegal (plus Lautoconus guanche from Mauritania, Morocco, and Canary Islands). Within Trovaoconus, up to three main lineages could be distinguished. The clade of Africonus included four main lineages (named I to IV), each further subdivided into two monophyletic groups. The reconstructed phylogeny allowed inferring the evolution of the radula in the studied lineages as well as biogeographic patterns. The number of cone species endemic to Cabo Verde was revised under the light of sequence divergence data and the inferred phylogenetic relationships. Conclusions: The sequence divergence between continental members of the genus Kalloconus and island endemics ascribed to the genus Trovaoconus is low, prompting for synonymization of the latter. The genus Lautoconus is paraphyletic. Lautoconus ventricosus is the closest living sister group of genus Africonus. Diversification of Africonus was in allopatry due to the direct development nature of their larvae and mainly triggered by eustatic sea level changes during the Miocene-Pliocene. Our study confirms the diversity of cone endemic to Cabo Verde but significantly reduces the number of valid species.
