    Currently, the technological and administrative modernity has revolutionized the dynamics of work in organizations. In recent years, the existence of mobbing has been pointed out, which represents an obstacle to the integral development of workers; therefore, job satisfaction plays a fundamental role in the quality of life of people. In the present work a quantitative research was carried out, a transversal-correlational design was used, to determine if there is a statistically significant relationship between the mobbing variables and job satisfaction of the teachers of the Higher Education Institutions (HEI). The sample consisted of 248 teachers from four HEI in central Mexico. The hypotheses were evaluated through the chi-square statistical test. The results reveal the dependence between the dimensions of the variables analyzed

    Changes in bioaccessibility, polyphenol profile and antioxidant potential of flours obtained from persimmon fruit (Diospyros kaki) co-products during in vitro gastrointestinal digestion

    The aim was to evaluate (i) the phenol and flavonoid recovery and bioaccessibility indexes, (ii) the stability of individual polyphenolic compounds and (iii) the antioxidant activity of persimmon flours (cultivars ‘Rojo Brillante’ and ‘Triumph’) during the in vitro digestion. The recovery index for phenolic and flavonoid content was dependent on flour type and digestion phase. After the dialysis phase, the bioaccessibility for phenolic compounds from both flours was similar; for flavonoids it was higher in ‘Triumph’ than ‘Rojo Brillante’ flour. After in vitro digestion, 13 polyphenolic compounds were detected in both flours, of which only six were detected in the intestinal phase. Their antioxidant activity (ABTS%+, FRAP and DPPH) decreased after intestinal phase, while their chelating activity (FIC assay) increased in both flours. So, persimmon flours could be included in the formulation of foods to improve either their scarcity of bioactive compounds or an unbalanced nutritional composition

    “On the shoulders of giants” the history of women and men in Physics as a teaching innovation in Engineering degrees

    This paper describes the results of the teaching innovation project. It was putting into practice at the School of Engineering of the University of Cádiz during the academic year 2016/2017. It was called "If I have seen further it is because I am sitting on the shoulders of giants. A little history of Women and Men in the history of Science and Engineering in the classrooms of the Higher School of Engineering". The main objective of the project was to inform the students of the first year of the Degrees of Electricity, Industrial Electronics, Industrial Technology, Aerospace, about the biographies and the contributions of some of the "giants" of the Physics and Engineering. It supposed a recovery of the History of the Physics in the teaching in the Degrees of Engineering. Moreover, we have tried to make visible some of these researches, especially, the feminine scientists. The realization of this project has increased the motivation of the students for the learning of physics. Knowing the biographies, contributions, successes and failures of great scientists, predisposes students to understand more complex concepts and, at the same time, taking those giants as a source of inspiration

    Is there an association between sleep disorders and diabetic foot? A scoping review

    Diabetic foot is associated with a low quality of life since physical disabilities, mood disturbances and psychological disorders are frequent. One of the most important biological processes to ensure quality of life is sleep. Sleep disorders can impair glycemic control in patients with diabetes mellitus or even cause long-term type 2 diabetes mellitus. The aim of this study is to carry out a scoping review about the association between sleep cycle disorders and diabetic foot. PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, PEDro, Cochrane Library, SCIELO and EMBASE databases were chosen for the search and the following terms were used: “diabetic foot”,“sleep*”,“rest-activity”,“mood” and“behavior”. All the studies should include outcome variables about sleep and diabetic foot. Finally, 12 articles were selected, all of whichwere observational. The most frequent variables were those regarding diabetic foot ulcer aspects and diabetic neuropathy on one side, and obstructive sleep apnea, sleep duration and sleep quality on the other side. The results suggest that there is a possible association between obstructive sleep apnea and the presence or history of diabetic foot ulcers. No direct associations between sleep quality or sleep duration and diabetic foot or diabetic foot ulcer variables have been found

    AwarNS: A framework for developing context-aware reactive mobile applications for health and mental health

    In recent years, interest and investment in health and mental health smartphone apps have grown significantly. However, this growth has not been followed by an increase in quality and the incorporation of more advanced features in such applications. This can be explained by an expanding fragmentation of existing mobile platforms along with more restrictive privacy and battery consumption policies, with a consequent higher complexity of developing such smartphone applications. To help overcome these barriers, there is a need for robust, well-designed software development frameworks which are designed to be reliable, power-efficient and ethical with respect to data collection practices, and which support the sense-analyse-act paradigm typically employed in reactive mHealth applications. In this article, we present the AwarNS Framework, a context-aware modular software development framework for Android smartphones, which facilitates transparent, reliable, passive and active data sampling running in the background (sense), on-device and server-side data analysis (analyse), and context-aware just-in-time offline and online intervention capabilities (act). It is based on the principles of versatility, reliability, privacy, reusability, and testability. It offers built-in modules for capturing smartphone and associated wearable sensor data (e.g. IMU sensors, geolocation, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scans, physical activity, battery level, heart rate), analysis modules for data transformation, selection and filtering, performing geofencing analysis and machine learning regression and classification, and act modules for persistence and various notification deliveries. We describe the framework’s design principles and architecture design, explain its capabilities and implementation, and demonstrate its use at the hand of real-life case studies implementing various mobile interventions for different mental disorders used in clinical practice

    Archaeological History of a Fijian Island: Moturiki, Lomaiviti Group

    Moturiki is one of the high islands in the Lomaiviti Group, central Fiji. In this article we present exhaustive empirical information on archaeological survey and test pit excavations carried out in 2008 and 2010. An interesting archaeological landscape emerged, with 89 archaeological sites found on Moturiki and neighboring islands Yanuca Levu, Leleuvia, and Caqalai. The sites include ring-ditch villages, terraced villages, isolated house mounds (yavus), and burial sites. Results from one of the test pits on the southeast of the island indicate possible landscape changes in the last millennium, since the ancient coastline is currently buried at around 1 m below the surface. This lowland area has therefore received large amounts of sediment from higher areas, a likely result of human activity. We also documented remains from a previously recorded Lapita site in the island. Overall, a shift in the settlement patterns from the coast, to the interior areas, back to the coast, has been documented. This shift, taking place on extremely small islands, can hardly be explained by environmental changes. The article puts together our findings and hypothesis, as well as providing the emphasis of our methodological approach

    Chia Oil Extraction Coproduct as a Potential New Ingredient for the Food Industry: Chemical, Physicochemical, Techno-Functional and Antioxidant Properties

    The aim of this work was to characterize the coproduct obtained from chia oil production (cold-pressing) with a view to its possible application in new food product development. For this characterization, the following determinations were made: proximate composition, physicochemical analysis, techno-functional properties, total phenolic and flavonoid content, polyphenolic profile and antioxidant capacity (using four different methods). Chia coproduct showed significantly higher levels of proteins and total dietary fiber and lower levels of fats than chia seeds, pointing to the promising nature of this coproduct as an ingredient of food formulations since it remains a source of high biological value proteins and total dietary fiber (as chia seeds themselves) but with a lower energy value. This chia coproduct presents similar techno-functional properties to the original chia seeds and significantly higher levels of polyphenolic compounds and, consequently, higher antioxidant activit

    Evaluation of protective effect of different dietary fibers on polyphenolic profile stability of maqui berry (Aristotelia chilensis (Molina) Stuntz) during in vitro gastrointestinal digestion

    The aim of this work was to determine the protective effect of different dietary fibers on (i) the recovery and bioaccessibility indexes, and (ii) the stability of polyphenolic compounds (phenolic acids, flavonoids and anthocyanins) of maqui berry powder subjected to in vitro gastrointestinal digestion (GID). The extracts obtained in each phase (oral, gastric and intestinal) of GID were used to analyze the stability of polyphenolic compounds by HPLC, and the bioaccessibility of these compounds was also determined. At the end of the GID process, the mixture of maqui berry with the different fibers increased the bioaccessibility index of the phenolic and flavonoid compounds in all cases. The results obtained suggest that the anthocyanins and phenolic acids and flavonoid compounds present in maqui are stabilized through dietary fiber interactions, which might provide sufficient levels for absorption during gastrointestinal digestion. The gums sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, xanthan gum and guar gum provided the best protective effect
