In adolescence, motivation is a predictive factor in academic success. Motivated students have higher levels of satisfaction in school, mobilizing interests and skills in various domains (Galinha, 2006). This study aimed to assess the existence of improvements in motivational dynamics in Portuguese adolescents by investigating if students who participated in the P-DMAR Programme displayed higher motivation levels relative to the control group in the domains present in the QME questionnaire. The School Motivation Questionnaire - QME (Cordeiro, 2010) was administered to two groups (experimental vs control) at two different phases, before and after participation in the P-DMAR. A sample of 86 students (n = 43 experimental group, n = 43 control group) were involved in the study. The statistical methodology consisted of a quantitative analysis of the QME using hypothesis tests for independent and paired samples. An α = 5% was set. The results showed that males were predominant (51.2%) with 29.1% of the respondents repeating. There was a statistically significant improvement in the six dimensions evaluated in the QME in the experimental group as opposed to the control group (p values <0.01). It was verified that the P-DMAR is a valuable programme with statistical significance (p <0.01) because the students participating in it saw their motivational capacities enhanced in the following six domains measured in the QME: strategies, extrinsic objectives of the teacher, extrinsic objectives of the student with external regulation, intrinsic objectives of the teacher, extrinsic objectives of the student with internal regulation and intrinsic objectives of the student.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

De novo centriole biogenesis during spermatogenesis in the model bryophyte Physcomitrium patens

"Centrioles play dual roles within Eukaryotic cells, being a key component of the main microtubule-organizing center of animal cells - the centrosome, and serving as basal bodies for cilia/flagella assembly. Due to their critical functions, centriole biogenesis is tightly regulated in time, space and number. In many eukaryotes, one centriole (daughter) assembles in close proximity to a pre-existing one (its mother), once per cell cycle. Such mechanism for centriole assembly is known as centriole duplication, and is thought to represent the ancestral pathway for centriole biogenesis. However, centrioles also assemble de novo in many cell types, tissues and species, with particular pathways and structures being employed to achieve such a goal. For example, in land plants with motile sperm cells, centrioles assemble de novo via two almost-exclusive structures: bicentrioles (e.g. bryophytes), or blepharoplasts (e.g. Ginkgo biloba). Nevertheless, and contrasting with centriole duplication, the mechanisms regulating de novo centriole biogenesis remain largely unknown. This is partially due to the lack of amenable model organisms and tools to tackle such processes. Still, this unexplored diversity is critical to understanding centrioles’ assembly, evolution and functions.(...)

Relatório de Bolsa de Integração na Investigação - Instituto Superior de AgronomiaWheat is one of the most important crops in the world and just last year the crop area of durum wheat in Portugal suffered a reduction of 69%, this way it becomes more important to characterize the Triticum durum commercial varieties available for crop production. In this work we used six durum wheat varieties usually planted in Portugal (Celta, Hélvio, Marialva, Don Duro, Saragolla and Severo), with the purpose of studying their genomic variability, using PCR-based molecular techniques. Our results indicate that, although being reproduced by self-fertilization, durum wheat’s varieties still show some genomic variability, not only among different varieties, but also between individuals from the same variety. We have also showed that, even though being commercial varieties, not all of them appear to have dough with superior end use quality. This variability can help us develop specific primers to easily distinguish different varieties, and aid in the identification and characterization of varieties with better quality trait

To know the customers opinion is essential for monitoring the quality of health services and reorganizing them. The concept of satisfaction is based on a multidimensional perspective. Several factors such as customer characteristics, may determine the level of satisfaction. Some examples of those factors are sex, age, education level and employment status. In this sense, a non-experimental, quantitative, descriptive and cross-correlative and transversal study has been made using a sample of 142 children caretakers who use the Pediatric Emergency of HIP EPE. In order to accomplish this we used a questionnaire adapted from Silva et al. (2007). The obtained results allow us to verify that the children caretakers are satisfied with the services provided, 43.7% were satisfied, 41.5% were very satisfied and 14.8% were fully satisfied. The most positive dimensions identified refer to general aspects, such as admission of patients, personnel and facilities. About the respondents expectations, 97.9% would come back to the hospital with their children and 95.8% would recommend it to a friend. The decrease of the waiting time was the most often mentioned suggestion. Given the satisfaction of children caretakers based on gender, education level and employment status there was no statistically significant relationship. The results for the variable age indicate that a statistically significant relationship exists between the two variables and that the children caretakers are more satisfied with increasing age. This research work had the purpose to understand the interdisciplinarity as a model of intervention on teams in the National Network for Integrated Continuous Care (RNCCI), giving special emphasis to the influence of professional issues in the interprofessional relations. More specifically, we intended to understand the perception of professionals regarding the interdisciplinarity, capturing in their speeches how they rationalize some professional issues involved in the interactional dynamics inherent to interdisciplinary work. It was also intended to understand the perception of professionals about their own role and the role of other professionals in the team, because it is believed that it influences predisposition to interactional dynamics that make easy the interdisciplinarity. Finally, we tried to recognize the professionals satisfaction with the performance of the team itself as a way to "measure" the impact of the emerging challenges of coexistence among specialists from different areas of knowledge in the context of RNCCI. Analyzing this collected data, it demonstrates that interdisciplinarity is not a simple undertaking, because it puts side by side in a strong interdependent relationship, a diversity of professional knowledge, which in most of traditional contexts of intervention, does not happens normally. The professional level of interaction required by interdisciplinary work put some challenges related to the discussion about the status, the different languages and professional values, which derived from the socialization processes of professions and is therefore a particular “worldview” strongly rooted. Moreover, the collected data shows the relevance that the clarification of professional roles assumed by facilitating the dynamics required by interdisciplinarity, constituting itself an indispensable strategy for interprofessional collaboration. This research is a qualitative, exploratory, descriptive and comprehensive study, where were used inductive and abdutive research strategies. It was used an ethnographic approach, using interview and observation techniques considering their potential in capture the relational dynamics and their meanings to the social actors. It was also used as a research model, the Grounded Theory, and the theoretical coding as the procedure to analyze interviews

This work analyzes the perception of nurses in the beginning of their career with regard to Emotional and Quantitative Demands, Control and Burnout in two moments in time, 6 months apart. Using the JD-C Karasek model of Burnout, we hypothesize that nurses with smaller service time perceive higherDemands, less Control and higher Burnout symptoms with regard to nurses with longer service time. Thesame perceptions were analyzed 6 months later to detect, by hypothesis, smaller perception of EmotionalDemands, smaller Control and smaller Burnout. From a sample of 249 nurses in an Hospital in Lisbon,we have concluded that subjects with smaller service time feel different Emotional Demands thansubjects with higher service time, in the form of higher Emotional Dissonance, the same perception ofControl and higher Burnout, through a higher Depersonalization. After 6 months, these subjects felt adecrease in Depersonalization and an increase of exhaustion, a dimension of Burnout. EmotionalDissonance remained constant. These results suggest that the implementation of an adaptation programthat faces Emotional Dissonance is important to improve the feeling of Depersonalization within nurses at the start of their career

Exercising for weight and shape reasons vs. health control reasons : the impact on eating disturbance and psychological functioning

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and correlates of exercise motivated by health and weight/shape reasons. In total, 301 participants (53.5% males) completed questionnaires assessing eating behaviors, affect, self-esteem and attitudes toward exercise. Almost 48% of the participants reported that their exercise is motivated by weight/shape reasons. These individuals were more likely to report eating problems and more positive affect after exercising. For both groups, gender, ideal weight, and the impact of weight gain on self-esteem significantly predict disordered eating. Body mass index, affect, and attitudes toward exercise also emerged as predictors for the health reasons group. Weight and shape control reasons for exercise participation were very common and related to eating disturbance

This paper aims to showcase an ongoing service design project for the Montemor-o-Velho municipality, which is integrated in Ruas de Cultura (Streets of Culture), a project with a wider scope. The proposal of Montemor-o-Velho City Hall promotes the regeneration of several central urban spaces, through the dinamization of 3 axes: 1 – One unit where the Artistic Residencies will be installed; 2 – A Technological Centre and companies’ incubator; 3 – Several spaces dedicated to social activities. The ID+ participates with 2 types of intervention. The first one is centred around the development of actions/tools that can promote the implementation of an organizational and space management model based on the following premises: active incentives to sharing experiences, sharing knowledge and tasks; and a second one focused on the creation of an identity system for the project. This article aims to highlight the axis of service design actions/tools’ development, with a particular emphasis on participatory design. Based on visual representation tools characteristic of the design activity, several scenarios will be outlined in order to promote a strategic debate between all stakeholders, some of which will be detailed in this paper. The tools which will allow for the collaboration and participation of future users of these spaces will also be developed in the project

Key challenges of e-learning and of virtual innovations cater to personal and social diverse needs and providing holistic and community learning experiences. Considering opportunities, e learning feature is helpful, support enabling the implementation of technology-based. The study of the feeling of community is also relevant to assess the development of populations, in particular individuals and groups that are in a situation of psychological and social vulnerability, including situations of response to a pandemic crisis (Muller, Goh, Lim & Gao 2021; Sanchez-Vidal 2007). In this exploratory quantitative research through a questionnaire survey SIRF Likert Scale (Galinha 2021) addressed to a sample of 420 individuals, the main goal is to get to know the educative institutions as a positive organizations. The secondary goals were considered: i) to characterize the participants in the sociodemographic component ii) to know the importance assigned to e-learning and virtual innovations, iii) to know the social representations perceived by participants in this context and iv) to assess the feeling of learning community. The results show that: i) the majority of participants are female (67%), aged between 25-49 years, married (65%), with a high level of education (47%). There is a moderate positive correlation (ρ=0.62) and statistically significant (p-value=0) between the e-learning and virtual innovations and the level of education of high level of education. ii) As for the importance assigned, the data point to: socializing and learning. iii) The subjects said that the crisis was difficult to overcome emotionally. iv) Both genres equitably expressed attachment to their institutions in terms of their sense of belonging to communities of learning practices. The study data are relevant from the perspective of Martin Seligman's positive organizations (Seligman, Steen, Park & Peterson 2005; Vala & Monteiro 2013; Marujo & Neto 2019; Galinha 2020), Freire (1996) and Sgoti and Santos (2021).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
