El presente artículo presta atención a la reutilización, durante la Edad Media, de manuscritos deteriorados. Cuando un manuscrito se había deteriorado como consecuencia de un uso continuado, o de una conservación inadecuada, a menudo se reutilizaba, excepto en aquellos casos en que su contenido resultaba del interés de algún bibliófilo, que optaba por conservarlo. Se puede obtener información relativa a estos manuscritos en inventarios de libros y almonedas, donde se hace mención de su estado de conservación y de los detalles relativos a su venta en el mercado de segunda mano. The present article deals with the way manuscripts in poor condition were re-used during the Middle Ages. When a manuscript was damaged from continuous use or poor preservation, it was often re-used, except in those cases when its contents drew the attention of a bibliophile, who would preserve it. Information regarding such damaged manuscripts can be found in book inventories and auctions. They usually describe their physical condition, and where to purchase them in the second-hand market

The objective of this work is to show the actions of the Historical Library of the University of Valencia aimed at safeguarding the collection of manuscripts it possesses. The characteristics and methodology of the description instruments elaborated are studied, the control mechanisms set in motion are analyzed, and information is provided on the adversities and misfortunes to which the codices have been exposed.El objetivo de este trabajo es el de mostrar las actuaciones de la Biblioteca Histórica de la Universitat de València encaminadas a salvaguardar la colección de manuscritos que posee. Se estudian las características y metodología de los instrumentos de descripción elaborados, se analizan los mecanismos de control puestos en marcha, y se aporta información sobre las adversidades e infortunios a los que se han visto expuestos los códices
