Symeon "the Fool": the demoniac features of an apparently strange monk

Esta contribución profundiza en el estudio de los santos locos bizantinos con el objetivo de verificar que la asociación tardía de estos ascetas con los demonios puede retrotraerse incluso al primer representante de este tipo de santos, Simeón de Emesa. A través del estudio de la Vida de Simeón el loco, de Leoncio de Neápolis, se analizarán las acciones de Simeón, señalando similitudes con distintos personajes vinculados con los demonios en la moral cristiana tratando de poner en evidencia las características demoníacas del comportamiento del santo.This paper examines Byzantine fool saints, aiming to verify that the association of these ascetics with demons could be traced back to the first representative of this typology of saints, Symeon of Emesa. Through the study of the Life of Symeon the Fool, by Leontius of Neapolis, Symeon’s actions will be analyzed, trying to identify similarities with various characters linked with demons in Christian moral in order to point out the demoniacal characteristics of Symeon’s behavior

Diferencias biométricas relacionadas con el sexo y la edad en una población ibérica de Pechiazul (Luscinia svecica cyanecula)

S'analitzen els resultats obtinguts dels valors de l'ala (corda màxima), longitud de la tercera primària, longitud del tars i massa corporal en 93 exemplars de cotxa blava capturats en dues localitats dels voltants dels Montes de León. La comparació de les mesures entre mascles i femelles va mostrar diferències significatives en la corda màxima alar i la tercera primària, i es van revelar com a mesures útils per a la discriminació de sexes. Contràriament, no es van trobar diferències en les mesures del tars i la massa corporal. Quan es comparen aquestes mesures entre mascles joves i adults, només apareixen diferències significatives en la mida de la longitud de la tercera primària

Oral health in a group of patients with Rett syndrome in the regions of Valencia and Murcia (Spain): a case-control study

Objectives: Rett syndrome (RS) is a rare disease with oral manifestations that have not been described in detail or in a standardized manner in the literature. The present study describes the oral health of the population with RS in two Spanish regions, following the protocol of the World Health Organization for conducting common oral health surveys. Study Design: A prospective, observational case-control study was carried out, involving a group of patients with RS (n1=41) and a mean age of 13.37±3.19 years, and an age- and gender-matched control group without RS (n0=82). The data referred to oral health and habits were recorded by means of a questionnaire and oral examination was used to document caries indicators (prevalence of caries, df(t), df(s), DMF(T), DMF(S) and indices referred to dental loss, morbidity, restoration), the Community Periodontal Index (CPI), and the most characteristic oral manifestations. Results: The most frequent oral habit in the patients with RS was diurnal bruxism, followed by stereotyped tongue movements and oral breathing. The caries scores were lower in the RS population than in the control group, but patients with RS showed greater periodontal alterations and a greater prevalence of drooling, dental wear, higharched palate and anterior open bite. Conclusions: The population with RS exhibits characteristic and early oral habits and alterations, and periodontal problems that are more notorious than caries disease, so that our efforts should focus on the diagnosis and early correction of the parafunctional habits, promoting restorative treatment, and providing instructions on correct oral hygiene

An adaptation of a Gnostic myth with formative intention in Late Antiquity: the demons of Chapter 65 of the Vita Antonii by Athanasius of Alexandria

The aim of this work is to deepen into Late Antique Christian demonology, and to analyze an ambiguous passage in the Vita Antonii by Athanasius of Alexandria that describes the ascension of Antonius' soul to heavens and its encounter with such terrible "beings". The author departs from J. Daniélou's works on air powers and its role in some variants of the Gnostic myth about the ascent of the soul through the different heavens. Thereupon, he delves into the passage providing different textual parallels. He finishes joining D. Brakkes' perspectives on Athanasius ascetic theories to defend that these "beings" might be identified with the Gnostic Archons, term silenced by the bishop due to its heretical links in his efforts to inculcate the believers with the idea of that the only requirement to achieve salvation was a virtuous moral behavior.Buscando profundizar en la demonología cristiana tardoantigua, el trabajo analiza un ambiguo pasaje de la Vita Antonii de Atanasio de Alejandría donde se narra la ascensión del alma de Antonio a los cielos y su encuentro con unos seres "terribles". El autor parte de los trabajos de J. Daniélou sobre las potencias aéreas y su papel en las distintas variantes del mito gnóstico del ascenso del alma a través de los diferentes cielos. A partir de ahí, el autor profundiza en el análisis del pasaje, aportando diversos paralelos textuales. Termina adhiriéndose a las perspectivas de D. Brakke sobre las teorías ascéticas de Atanasio para defender finalmente que dichos "seres" podrían identificarse con los «arcontes», término de connotaciones heterodoxas que el obispo habría silenciado en sus esfuerzos para inculcar en los fieles la idea de que lo realmente necesario para alcanzar la salvación era un comportamiento moral virtuoso

A new species of Armeria (Plumbaginaceae) from southern Spain with molecular and morphometric evidence on its origin

The definitive version is available at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/The taxonomic status of the populations of Armeria from the Horconera massif (Co´rdoba province), previously misidentified or referred to without an explicit identification, is re-examined on the basis of morphological and molecular data. A multivariate analysis indicates that they can be discriminated from morphologically and geographically close taxa using morphometric characters. According to these results, and taking into account the previous evidence that supports extensive reticulation in the genus, a new species, A. trianoi, is formally described. Molecular evidence from our previous works, in particular the nuclear ribosomal ITS sequence data, provides the frame for a discussion on the origin of the new entity. It is suggested that A. trianoi may be the result of introgression of sympatric populations of A. villosa subsp. longiaristata into a pre-existing taxon, possibly A. filicaulis var. minor presently occurring in Sierra Tejeda some 50 km apart.This work has been supported by the Spanish Dirección General de Enseñanza Superior e Investigación Científica (grant DGES PB97-1146).Peer reviewe

482 p.Análisis de los procedimientos sancionadores por los que se produce la imposición de sanciones en materia de tráfico y seguridad vial. El estudio aborda la evolución histórica de la normativa en este ámbito de actividad administrativa y el camino recorrido hasta alcanzar la regulación que, en la actualidad, está vigente en esta materia. Se analizan los diferentes elementos presentes: la regulación de los elementos subjetivos (órgano competentes para sancionar y responsable), los diferentes hitos que se integran a lo largo del procedimiento sancionador legalmente establecido, el desarrollo y características que presentan el procedimiento ordinario y el abreviado, la naturaleza del permiso por puntos y el procedimiento reglamentariamente previsto para ello. El estudio toma en consideración las sucesivas regulaciones por las que se ha ordenado la imposición de sanciones y las resoluciones judiciales que, a través del tiempo, han interpretado esa ordenación normativa
