Ainda suspira a última flor do Lácio?
Abstract: The work analyses the formation of the Portuguese language and its literary and historical parallels with Castilian and Catalan. With this aim, we first contextualize the linguistic and literary trajectory of Iberian-Romance languages, in order to highlight similarities and diff erences in Hispania. As case studies, we consider three authors who elevated and enhanced the Portuguese language of their own time: Pedro de Barcelos (1287-1354), with Crónica Geral de Espanha de 1344, the Jesuit and priest Antonio Vieira (1608-1697), with Sermão vigésimo do Rosário, and the Parnassian poet Olavo Bilac (1865-1918), with the poem Profissão de Fé.Key words: Comparative History of Literature, Castilian, Catalan, Count D. Creeping into freedom: woman’s body in “The yellow wallpaper”, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Even though the short story “The Yellow Wallpaper” (1892), by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, has received much attention, especially from feminist literary criticism, there have been relatively few considerations on the main character’s body and on how it relates to her ordeal under patriarchal repression. By examining the physical aspect of the narrator’s experience, this article investigates two main hypotheses: (1) that the narrator’s body is controlled as a means of controlling her mind, but this fails when she uses her mind to free her body; and (2) that the “creeping” movement obsessively mentioned by the narrator can be interpreted as a subversion. This second proposition counterpoints the notion that the narrator’s descent into madness is proof of male triumph over female freedom

Mid-callosal Plane Determination Using Preferred Directions From Diffusion Tensor Images
The corpus callosum is the major brain structure responsible for inter-hemispheric communication between neurons. Many studies seek to relate corpus callosum attributes to patient characteristics, cerebral diseases and psychological disorders. Most of those studies rely on 2D analysis of the corpus callosum in the mid-sagittal plane. However, it is common to find conflicting results among studies, once many ignore methodological issues and define the mid-sagittal plane based on precary or invalid criteria with respect to the corpus callosum. In this work we propose a novel method to determine the mid-callosal plane using the corpus callosum internal preferred diffusion directions obtained from diffusion tensor images. This plane is analogous to the mid-sagittal plane, but intended to serve exclusively as the corpus callosum reference. Our method elucidates the great potential the directional information of the corpus callosum fibers have to indicate its own referential. Results from experiments with five image pairs from distinct subjects, obtained under the same conditions, demonstrate the method effectiveness to find the corpus callosum symmetric axis relative to the axial plane.941
Configurations of Otherness and Power: From Loneliness in the Pyramid to Encounter on the Network
This article is the result of an integrative synthesis of different projects executed by a research team. Its aim is to show research about social practices that, although they are strongly conditioned by a historical-political context, at the same time restrain the ability to generate new products, perceptions, expressions and actions among the individuals who carry them out “face to face,” on a daily basis. The theoretical and methodological perspective starts with the microphysics of power (Foucault, 1980) and moves toward practices “in the world of everyday life” (phenomenological sociology) (Schultz, 1974), dealing with this dynamic field combining the micro and the macro. Contributions of the micropolitical perspective (Ball, 1989; Bardisa, 1997; Terren, 2004; Blase and Blase, 1997; López Yañez and Sánchez Moreno; 2004) offer a psychosocial framework for understanding collective action in the organizational context. Thus, taking configuration of the other and power as an organizing axis, diverse categories of analysis are presented, such as: games logic, emotion, bonding, communicative dimension, time and space, collective change and learning methodologies, to explain and understand the way in which these different configurations of otherness hinder or permit human encounter in the organizational network. Gender violence as aesthetics in European and American visual culture from the 16th to the 21st century
[EN] This research exposes the structure of an objectification pattern regarding the female body which responds to capitalist policies using visual culture and art history as a medium from the 16th to the 21st centuries. From the collection and analysis of the works from artists, art directors, photographers, film directors and video game designers, a visual archive was created in digital format. The archive presents the aesthetic politics within the geographic frame of America and Europe which still trade with race, gender, ethnicity and class. The problem of the dissemination of this type of images within the global market is also mentioned because gender violence is still used as aesthetics
