Specification testing in discretized diffusion models: Theory and practice

We propose two newtests for the specification of both the drift and the diffusion functions in a discretized version of a semiparametric continuous-time financial econometric model. Theoretically, we establish some asymptotic consistency results for the proposed tests. Practically, a simple selection procedure for the bandwidth parameter involved in each of the proposed tests is established based on the assessment of the power function of the test under study. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first approach of his kind in specification of continuous-time financial econometrics. Modelling asset correlations: A nonparametric approach

This article proposes a time-varying nonparametric estimator and a time-varying semiparametric estimator of the correlation matrix. We discuss representation, estimation based on kernel smoothing and inference. An extensive Monte Carlo simulation study is performed to compare the semiparametric and nonparametric models with the DCC speci fication. Our bivariate simulation results show that the semiparametric and nonparametric models are best in DGPs with gradual changes or structural breaks in correlations. However, in DGPs with rapid changes or constancy in correlations the DCC delivers the best outcome. Moreover, in multivariate simulations the semiparametric and nonparametric models fare the best in DGPs with substantial time-variability in correlations, while when allowing for little variability in the correlations the DCC is the dominant speci fication. The methodologies are illustrated by estimating the correlations for two interesting portfolios. The rst portfolio consists of the equity sectors SPDRs and the S&P 500 composite, while the second one contains major currencies that are actively traded in the foreign exchange market. Portfolio evaluation results show that the nonparametric estimator generally dominates its competitors, with a statistically significant lower portfolio variance

Dispensación de medicamentos con informes médicos

INTRODUCCIÓN Diariamente se reciben en la farmacia solicitudes de dispensación apoyadas en informes médicos, pero sin el modelo oficial de receta médica. Se trata de un problema para el farmacéutico ya que, en sentido estricto, al proceder a su dispensación no se cumple la legalidad vigente. El objetivo principal de nuestro estudio ha sido conocer las características de las demandas de medicamentos con informes médicos, sin receta médica oficial, en cinco oficinas de farmacia de la Comunidad de Madrid.MÉTODOS Estudio observacional descriptivo transversal realizado en cinco farmacias comunitarias de la Comunidad de Madrid en diciembre de 2008. Se analizaron los informes médicos presentados para dispensación de los tratamientos reseñados.RESULTADOS Se registraron un total de 272 dispensaciones con informes médicos. Los centros sanitarios que remitían los informes fueron mayoritariamente públicos, 208 (76%), frente a 68 (24%) de privados. El 86% de los pacientes acude el mismo día frente al 14% que no lo hace dicho día. El coste medio del tratamiento fue de 12,56. Los medicamentos más prescritos fueron: antibióticos 78 (29%) y psicótropos 83 (31%), mientras que el resto de grupos registró 111 (40%).DISCUSIÓN Creemos que se debería corregir este problema, aumentando la comunicación entre colectivos, a través de nuestros representantes, y planteando a los médicos de hospital la problemática tanto administrativa como jurídica en la que nos encontramos los farmacéuticos, así como contemplar el desembolso que supone para los pacientes

Dispensability of the SAC depends on the time window required by aurora B to ensure chromosome biorientation

Aurora B and the spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC) collaborate to ensure the proper biorientation of chromosomes during mitosis. However, lack of Aurora B activity and inactivation of the SAC have a very different impact on chromosome segregation. This is most evident in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, since in this organism the lack of Aurora B is lethal and leads to severe aneuploidy problems, while the SAC is dispensable under normal growth conditions and mutants in this checkpoint do not show evident chromosome segregation defects. We demonstrate that the efficient repair of incorrect chromosome attachments by Aurora B during the initial stages of spindle assembly in budding yeast determines the lack of chromosome segregation defects in SAC mutants, and propose that the differential time window that Aurora B kinase requires to establish chromosome biorientation is the key factor that determines why some cells are more dependent on a functional SAC than others.Junta de Andalucía CVI-5806Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad BFU2013-43718-PUnión Europea FEDE

Exploring option pricing and hedging via volatility asymmetry

This paper evaluates the application of two well-known asymmetric stochastic volatility (ASV) models to option price forecasting and dynamic delta hedging. They are specied in discrete time in contrast to the classical stochastic volatility (SV) models used in option pricing. There is some related literature, but little is known about the empirical implications of volatility asymmetry on option pricing. The objectives of this paper are to estimate ASV option pricing models using a Bayesian approach unknown in this type of literature, and to investigate the e ect of volatility asymmetry on option pricing for di erent size equity sectors and periods of volatility. Using the S&P MidCap 400 and S&P 500 European call option quotes, results show that volatility asymmetry benets the accuracy of option price forecasting and hedging cost e ectiveness in the large-cap equity sector. Estudio del efecto de las condiciones de operación en un proceso de ultrafiltración destinado a recuperar compuestos fenólicos contenidos en los extractos líquidos del alperujo

[ES] El alperujo es un residuo semisólido que se obtiene en la elaboración de aceite de oliva virgen, el cual tiene una cantidad de elevada de compuestos fenólicos. Los compuestos fenólicos son productos de alto valor añadido puesto que juegan un importante papel en la nutrición y salud humanas (por ejemplo, en la prevención de determinadas enfermedades como el cáncer). Por ello, las industrias alimentaria, farmacéutica y cosmética han mostrado un creciente interés en este tipo de compuestos. Por otro lado, los compuestos fenólicos, debido a su carácter fitotóxico, suponen un problema a la hora de tratar dichos residuos en las plantas de tratamiento convencionales. Por todo ello, su recuperación es interesante. Este TFM tiene orientación investigadora. Se realizará un trabajo experimental que consiste en la puesta a punto del equipo de ultrafiltración con el que se estudiará la influencia de las condiciones de operación (concentración, velocidad tangencial, presión, tiempo, etc) sobre el rendimiento del proceso en términos de productividad y de recuperación de los polifenoles presentes en los extractos acuosos resultantes de una extracción sólido líquido aplicada al alperujo. A partir de los datos obtenidos, se seleccionarán las condiciones de operación más adecuadas del proceso de ultrafiltración para la recuperación de polifenoles. Analysis of the Barriers in the Educational Communication With Adolescent Students

Background: the educational communicative with adolescent’s students has turned into a problem social educationally in resolute Cuba from the present day.Objective: to analyze the barriers in the educational communication with adolescent students.Methods: the investigation covered a period from May 2018 to December 2018. A descriptive transactional design was used with a descriptive study under a sample of 35 eleventh grade students from the IPU “Mariano Clemente Prado” of the city of Santa Clara, Cuba. Results: it was obtained that dissent exists in the students because the professors stimulate its participation in the educational aspects, and they worry about the instructive area; difficulties are verified in the professors with relationship to the styles talkative employees with the adolescents.Conclusions: the difficulties in the educational communication toward the students are related with the communication styles assumed by the educational aspect that should be improved
