Magnetism and Electronic Correlations in Quasi-One-Dimensional Compounds
In this contribution on the celebration of the 80th birthday anniversary of
Prof. Ricardo Ferreira, we present a brief survey on the magnetism of
quasi-one-dimensional compounds. This has been a research area of intense
activity particularly since the first experimental announcements of magnetism
in organic and organometallic polymers in the mid 80s. We review experimental
and theoretical achievements on the field, featuring chain systems of
correlated electrons in a special AB2 unit cell structure present in inorganic
and organic compounds
The relationship between Information management and document management in archival science: mapping the theme in Brazilian scientific publications
Apresenta um estudo sobre a presença do tema da gestão da informação em artigos de temáticas arquivística. O objetivo é identificar como a comunidade científica tem tratado a existência de interface entre as duas áreas no que se refere á presença de elementos da gestão da informação, preconizada pela ciência da informação, em relação ás atividades específicas da gestão documental. Como procedimento metodológico, foi um levantamento de bibliografia produzida ao longo das últimas duas décadas (1997-2017) por pesquisadores brasileiros sobre o tema gestão documental visando identificar, dentre os trabalhos elencados, quantos tratam o tema da gestão da informação, central ou subsidiariamente, e de que forma esses temas são tratados. Como resultados, foram identificados 21 artigos divididos em três categorias de análise, que demonstram o estado das discussões sobre a relação entre gestão da informação e gestão documental.It presents a study about the presence of the Information Management theme in archivalthemed articles. The objective is to identify how the scientific community has dealt with the existence of an interface between the two areas regarding the presence of elements of Information Management, advocated by Information Science, in relation to the specific activities of Document Management. As a methodological procedure, it was a survey of bibliography produced over the last two decades (1997-2017) by Brazilian researchers on the subject of Document Management, aiming to identify, among the works listed, those that deal with the subject of Information Management, central or subsidiary and how these issues are addressed. Quantum phase transitions in alternating spin-(1/2, 5/2) Heisenberg chains
The ground state spin-wave excitations and thermodynamic properties of two
types of ferrimagnetic chains are investigated: the alternating spin-1/2
spin-5/2 chain and a similar chain with a spin-1/2 pendant attached to the
spin-5/2 site. Results for magnetic susceptibility, magnetization and specific
heat are obtained through the finite-temperature Lanczos method with the aim in
describing available experimental data, as well as comparison with theoretical
results from the semiclassical approximation and the low-temperature
susceptibility expansion derived from Takahashi's modified spin-wave theory. In
particular, we study in detail the temperature vs. magnetic field phase diagram
of the spin-1/2 spin-5/2 chain, in which several low-temperature quantum phases
are identified: the Luttinger Liquid phase, the ferrimagnetic plateau and the
fully polarized one, and the respective quantum critical points and crossover
lines

Foram feitas múltiplas pesquisas para garantir um certo equilíbrio entre jogabilidade e informação cientificamente correta, tentando assim evitar o maior número de informações falsas possíveis enquanto deixa o jogo menos cansativo e mais divertido
Phase diagram of a coupled tetrahedral Heisenberg model
The phase diagram of a coupled tetrahedral Heisenberg model is obtained. The
quantum chain has a local gauge symmetry and its eigenspectrum is obtained by
the composition of the eigenspectra of spin-1/2 XXZ chains with arbitrary
distribution of spin-3/2 impurities. The phase diagram is quite rich with an
infinite number of phases with ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic or
ferrimagnetic order. In some cases the ground state and the low lying
eigenlevels of the model can be exactly calculated since they coincide with the
eigenlevels of the exactly integrable XXZ chain. The thermodynamical properties
of the model at low temperatures is also studied through finite-size analysis.Comment: 23 pages, 15 figure
Statistically induced phase transitions and anyons in 1D optical lattices
Anyons-particles carrying fractional statistics that interpolate between bosons and fermions-have been conjectured to exist in low-dimensional systems. In the context of the fractional quantum Hall effect, quasi-particles made of electrons take the role of anyons whose statistical exchange phase is fixed by the filling factor. Here we propose an experimental setup to create anyons in one-dimensional lattices with fully tuneable exchange statistics. In our setup, anyons are created by bosons with occupation-dependent hopping amplitudes, which can be realized by assisted Raman tunnelling. The statistical angle can thus be controlled in situ by modifying the relative phase of external driving fields. This opens the fascinating possibility of smoothly transmuting bosons via anyons into fermions and of inducing a phase transition by the mere control of the particle statistics as a free parameter. In particular, we demonstrate how to induce a quantum phase transition from a superfluid into an exotic Mott-like state where the particle distribution exhibits plateaus at fractional densities
Rate-Dependent Nucleation and Growth of NaO2 in Na-O2 Batteries
Understanding the oxygen reduction reaction kinetics in the presence of Na ions and the formation mechanism of discharge product(s) is key to enhancing Na–O2 battery performance. Here we show NaO2 as the only discharge product from Na–O2 cells with carbon nanotubes in 1,2-dimethoxyethane from X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. Sodium peroxide dihydrate was not detected in the discharged electrode with up to 6000 ppm of H2O added to the electrolyte, but it was detected with ambient air exposure. In addition, we show that the sizes and distributions of NaO2 can be highly dependent on the discharge rate, and we discuss the formation mechanisms responsible for this rate dependence. Fit between humanitarian professionals and project requirements: hybrid group decision procedure to reduce uncertainty in decision-making
Choosing the right professional that has to meet indeterminate requirements is a critical aspect in humanitarian development and implementation projects. This paper proposes a hybrid evaluation methodology for some non-governmental organizations enabling them to select the most competent expert who can properly and adequately develop and implement humanitarian projects. This methodology accommodates various stakeholders’ perspectives in satisfying the unique requirements of humanitarian projects that are capable of handling a range of uncertain issues from both stakeholders and project requirements. The criteria weights are calculated using a two-step multi-criteria decision-making method: (1) Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process for the evaluation of the decision maker weights coupled with (2) Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to rank the alternatives which provide the ability to take into account both quantitative and qualitative evaluations. Sensitivity analysis have been developed and discussed by means of a real case of expert selection problem for a non-profit organisation. The results show that the approach allows a decrease in the uncertainty associated with decision-making, which proves that the approach provides robust solutions in terms of sensitivity analysis
Genomic structure and insertion sites of Helicobacter pylori prophages from various geographical origins
We present the full genomic sequences, insertion sites and phylogenetic analysis of 28 prophages found in H. pylori isolates from patients of distinct disease types, ranging from gastritis to gastric cancer, and geographic origins, covering most continents. The gentic diversity of H pylori is known to be influenced by these genomic elements including prophages who’s geneomes range from 22.6 to 33.0 Kbp. There was a high conservation of integration site shared in over 50% of cases with greater than 40% or prophage genomes harbouring insertion sequences (IS). Furthermore prophage genomes present a robust phylogeographic pattern, revealing four distinct clusters: one African, one Asian and two European prophage populations. There was evidence of recombination within the genome of some prophages, which resulted in genome mosaics composed by different populations, which may yield additional H. pylori phenotypes
Higher Expression of CCL2, CCL4, CCL5, CCL21, and CXCL8 Chemokines in the Skin Associated with Parasite Density in Canine Visceral Leishmaniasis
Several previous studies correlated immunopathological aspects of canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) with tissue parasite load and/or the clinical status of the disease. Recently, different aspects of the immune response in Leishmania-infected dogs have been studied, particularly the profile of cytokines in distinct compartments. However, the role of chemokines in disease progression or parasite burdens of the visceralising species represents an important approach for understanding immunopathology in CVL. We found an increase in inflammatory infiltrate, which was mainly composed of mononuclear cells, in the skin of animals presenting severe forms of CVL and high parasite density. Our data also demonstrated that enhanced parasite density is positively correlated with the expression of CCL2, CCL4, CCL5, CCL21, and CXCL8. In contrast, there was a negative correlation between parasite density and CCL24 expression. These findings represent an advance in the knowledge of the involvement of skin inflammatory infiltrates in CVL and the systemic consequences and may contribute to developing a rational strategy for the design of new and more efficient prophylactic tools and immunological therapies against CVL
