A Calibration Bound for the M-Theory Fivebrane
We construct a covariant bound on the energy-momentum of the M-fivebrane
which is saturated by all supersymmetric configurations. This leads to a
generalised notion of a calibrated geometry for M-fivebranes when the
worldvolume gauge field is non-zero. The generalisation relevant for Dp-branes

On the Energy Momentum Tensor of the M-Theory Fivebrane
We construct the energy momentum tensor for the bosonic fields of the
covariant formulation of the M-theory fivebrane within that formalism. We then
obtain the energy for various solitonic solutions of the fivebrane equations of

Strain gauge ambiguity sensor for segmented mirror active optical system
A system is described to measure alignment between interfacing edges of mirror segments positioned to form a segmented mirror surface. It serves as a gauge having a bending beam with four piezoresistive elements coupled across the interfaces of the edges of adjacent mirror segments. The bending beam has a first position corresponding to alignment of the edges of adjacent mirror segments, and it is bendable from the first position in a direction and to a degree dependent upon the relative misalignment between the edges of adjacent mirror segments to correspondingly vary the resistance of the strain guage. A source of power and an amplifier are connected in circuit with the strain gauge whereby the output of the amplifier varies according to the misalignment of the edges of adjacent mirror segments

A New Massive Type IIA Supergravity From Compactification
We consider the most general form for eleven dimensional supersymmetry
compatible with on-shell superfields. This allows for the introduction of a
conformal Spin(1,10) connection. In eleven dimensional Minkowski space this
modification is trivial and can be removed by a field redefinition, however,
upon compactification on S^1 it is possible to introduce a non-trivial `Wilson
line'. The resulting ten dimensional supergravity has massive 1-form and 3-form
potentials and a cosmological constant. This theory does not possess a
supersymmetric eightbrane soliton but it does admit a supersymmetric non-static

Partial non-renormalisation of the stress-tensor four-point function in N=4 SYM and AdS/CFT
We show that, although the correlator of four stress-tensor multiplets in N=4
SYM is known to have radiative corrections, certain linear combinations of its
components are protected from perturbative renormalisation and remain at their
free-field values. This result is valid for weak as well as for strong coupling
and for any gauge group. Our argument uses Intriligator's insertion formula,
and includes a proof that the possible contact term contributions cannot change
the form of the amplitudes. Combining this new non-renormalisation theorem with
Maldacena's conjecture allows us to make a prediction for the structure of the
corresponding correlator in AdS supergravity. This is verified by first
considerably simplifying the strong coupling expression obtained by recent
supergravity calculations, and then showing that it does indeed exhibit the

Manipulating Memory Associations Changes Decision-making Preferences in a Preconditioning Task
Memories of past experiences can guide our decisions. Thus, if memories are undermined or distorted, decision making should be affected. Nevertheless, little empirical research has been done to examine the role of memory in reinforcement decision-making . We hypothesized that if memories guide choices in a conditioning decision-making task, then manipulating these memories would result in a change of decision preferences to gain reward. We manipulated participants’ memories by providing false feedback that their memory associations were wrong before they made decisions that could lead them to win money . Participants’ memory ratings decreased significantly after receiving false feedback. More importantly, we found that false feedback led participants’ decision bias to disappear after their memory associations were undermined . Our results suggest that reinforcement decision-making can be altered by fasle feedback on memories . The results are discussed using memory mechanisms such as spreading activation theories
Energy efficient engine: Turbine intermediate case and low-pressure turbine component test hardware detailed design report
A four stage, low pressure turbine component has been designed to power the fan and low pressure compressor system in the Energy Efficient Engine. Designs for a turbine intermediate case and an exit guide vane assembly also have been established. The components incorporate numerous technology features to enhance efficiency, durability, and performance retention. These designs reflect a positive step towards improving engine fuel efficiency on a component level. The aerodynamic and thermal/mechanical designs of the intermediate case and low pressure turbine components are presented and described.
