Get PDF
The study is an attempt to unearth the current state of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) adoption and implementation in both manufacturing and service firms. Drawing on the conceptualization of multiple theories based in technology acceptance and innovation diffusion model, this study examines the above objectives with a particular reference to the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). Following the deductive reasoning approach, we applied a self-administered questionnaire survey and used 235 replies from 255 collected responses, leaving the data affected with missing and un-matched responses. The result is applied using the structural equation modeling via SmartPLS 2, a second generation regression model, for testing hypothesized relationships. Findings reveal that all the hypothesized influences are found significantly linked through the explanatory variables with the endogenous variables at different levels of significance, except the impact of effort efficiency and resistance to change. Policy implications are also proposed for the full adoption and utilization of ERP to achieve sustainable development goals. Furthermore, we recommend future researchers to focus on action research or experimental data for preventing the generalizability of the observed results

Male patients made up 81.4% of the total patient population, and 51.16% of them were farmers. The majority of the cases (79.07%) consumed tobacco. Squamous cell carcinoma was the most prevalent histological type among the patients (92%), and most of them had a moderate degree of differentiation (65.12%). The pyriform fossa (81.4%) was the most common primary sub site. Conclusions: In conclusion, tobacco users and middle-aged men are more likely to develop hypopharyngeal cancer. The most common histological type is moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma, with tumours most commonly seen in the pyriform fossa of hypopharynx

Acute kidney injury due to star fruit ingestion: A case report

Get PDF
Star fruit (Avarrhoa carambola) is a fruit from oxalidace family. lt is found in many countries of the world including Bangladesh. But its ingestion or drinking star fruit juice may lead to intoxication especially in patients with chronic kidney disease and manifestations might be neurological or nephrological. lt may also cause acute kidney injury in patients with previously normal renal function. Here we are presenting a case who presented with acute kidney injury after star fruit ingestion with previously unknown renal function impairment. The etiology was confirmed by histopathological examination after doing renal biopsy. This renal function impairment is mainly due to oxalate crystal induce nephropathy which is richly abundant in star fruit. His renal function was improved ·with conservative management. Physicians should be alert to consider the ingestion of star fruit as a cause of acute kidney injury in a patient even in the absence of previous renal function impairment

Ocean governance in Bangladesh: Necessities to implement structure, policy guidelines, and actions for ocean and coastal management

Get PDF
After the permanent demarcation of Exclusive Economic Zone boundaries with Myanmar and India through the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, Bangladesh has exclusive rights to exploit and to explore marine resources across 118,813 km(2) in the Bay of Bengal. To reap economic benefits from maritime space, the government of Bangladesh recently emphasized the development of a blue economy. Maritime economic activities, including shipping, trade, fishing, fishing industries, mineral extraction, exploitation of hydrocarbons, salt production, production of renewable energy, and marine and coastal tourism, are key elements of the maritime interests of policymakers. However, the safety of maritime activities also raises concerns that include shipping accidents, smuggling, and illegal fishing, which pose threats to maritime interests. Enhancing blue economic growth and protecting marine and coastal environments are essential to ensure maritime security. Therefore, in the framework of a comprehensive ocean governance approach, we suggest establishing a separate Ministry of Ocean Affairs with essential functions to formulate an integrated coastal and marine strategy, to address the policy guidelines, and to implement action plans for coastal management in Bangladesh. Get PDF
Chemotherapy is the primary therapeutic choice for advanced gastric cancer. The goal of this study was to assess the effectiveness and toxicity of the cisplatin-capecitabine regimen versus the oxaliplatin-capecitabine regimen in treating advanced gastric cancer. Between February 2021 and March 2022, this quasi-experimental study was conducted on 64 advanced gastric cancer patients. Purposive sampling was used to include those who met the inclusion criteria and distributed them evenly between the two arms. Arm A got an injection of cisplatin (80 mg/m2 on day 1) with oral capecitabine (1000 mg/m2 b.i.d. on days 1–14), whereas arm B received an injection of oxaliplatin (130 mg/m2 on day 1) plus oral capecitabine (1000 mg/m2 b.i.d. on days 1–14), every 3 weeks for 6 cycles. A final check-up was done at 12 weeks after the treatment. In arm A, 18 (56.2%) patients exhibited partial response compared to 15 (46.9%) in arm B. Stable diseases were also reported in both arms (18.8% in arm A and 21.9% in arm B). There were 8 (25.0%) cases of progressive disease in arm A and 10 (31.2%) cases in Arm B. The median progression-free survival in arms A (5.6 months) was almost similar to arm B (5.9 months). The most prevalent toxicities in both arms were vomiting, diarrhea, anemia, neutropenia, oral mucositis, paresthesia, handfoot syndrome, and renal toxicity. There were no statistically significant variations in outcomes between the two arms. In conclusion, the cisplatincapecitabine regimen is as effective as the oxaliplatin-capecitabine regimen in advanced gastric cancer. BSMMU J 2022; 15(3): 180-18

Chitosan-polyethylene glycol coated cotton membranes for wound dressings

No full text
272-280Membranes have been developed by coating a blend of chitosan (CS) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) of different molecular weights (4000, 10,000 and 20,000) on cotton fabric followed by freeze drying. The influence of PEG molecular weight on the physical characteristics of the membranes has been investigated. The scanning electron microscopy of the coated fabric reveals porous structure. The porosity of the material is found to be 51-70% and the pore size in the range of 75-120 microns. The increase in the PEG content in the blend composition causes destabilization of pores, leading to an increase in the pore size with elongated morphology. There seems to be phase separation between the two components, which is an important factor for the observed behaviour of the porous structure. The air and water permeability of the membranes tends to increase with the increase in PEG molecular weight. The PEG addition to membrane leads to the development of a more flexible matrix depending on the amount of PEG
