Preliminary Results on Charmed Meson Spectroscopy

We report the preliminary measurement by the FOCUS Collaboration (E831 at Fermilab) of masses and widths of the L=1 charm mesons $D_2^{*0}$ and $D_2^{*+}$. The fit of the invariant mass distribution requires an additional term to account for a broad structure over background.Comment: three pages, one figure, requires ws-p10x7.cls. Internal and External Influences on the University Teachers in Semester System

There are so many influences a faculty member has to undergo at the higher education level in universities in semester system. We wanted to comb the universities for the internal and external influences on the university teachers and their consequences in Balochistan. It was done to determine the loss we bear due to the influences on the university teachers in Balochistan, and to generate such influence-free-mechanism in the universities of Balochistan to strengthen the educational milieu in the province. Faculty members play pivotal role in imparting the education at the higher education level in any country. They happen to be the nucleus of the education system. Disturbing and disrupting them in any was is, in effect, disturbing and disrupting the education process. Influencing them, directly or indirectly, halts the true teaching process. It creates many obstacles ranging from class boycotts, hunger strikes to processions and demonstrations either inside the institute or outside the institute. To forge such a composite mechanism not only to control these both internal and external factors in order to streamline the learning and imparting education process but also to afford a healthy and sound teaching environment

Middleware Design Framework for Mobile Computing

Mobile computing is one of the recent growing fields in the area of wireless networking. The recent standardization efforts accomplished in Web services, with their XML-based formats for registration/discovery, service description, and service access, respectively UDDI, WSDL, and SOAP, certainly represent an interesting first step towards open service composition, which MA supports for mobile computing are expected to integrate within their frameworks soon. A middle-ware that can work even if the network parameters are changed can be a better solution for successful mobile computing. A middle-ware is proposed for handling the entire existing problem in distributed environment. Middleware is about integration and interoperability of applications and services running on heterogeneous computing and communication devices. The services it provides - including identification, authentication, authorization, soft-switching, certification and security - are used in a vast range of global appliances and systems, from smart cards and wireless devices to mobile services and e-Commerce

Investigating the performance of TiN and TiAIN coatings on milling cutter used for machining bimetal steel strip

Surface engineering of cutting tools (single point or multipoint) through advanced coatings (e.g., TiN) has contributed towards considerable improvement of tool life, productivity and machining quality [1] by modifying the tool substrate. New coating species (e.g., TiAlN) are also being developed to further improve the performance of cutting tools. In this study, milling tests were carried out with a TiN and TiAlN coated milling cutter to compare their performance. Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) technique was used to deposit the coatings after carefully preparing the cutting edges. Flank wear measurement in the milling cutter teeth was used as the criterion for assessing performance of the coatings. It has been found that TiAlN coating has significantly reduced the flank wear in the milling cutter teeth compared to TiN coating both at new and reground conditions of the cutter. Abrasive and adhesive wear were identified as the main mechanisms of the flank wear in both TiAlN and TiN coated teeth. The information should be useful for tool designers, coating suppliers and manufacturing engineers
