    Components of University of Zagreb as digital manuals and textbooks publishers with a review of copyright issues

    Sveučilište u Zagrebu najveće je i najstarije hrvatsko sveučilište. U sastavu ima 34 visokoškolske ustanove, fakultete i sveučilišni odjel, te sve sastavnice imaju pripadajuće knjižnice koje pružaju neophodnu podršku znanstvenom i nastavnom radu na Sveučilištu. Knjižnice se trude držati korak sa brzim razvojem tehnologije te odgovarati na potrebe korisnika, no još uvijek nisu savladale proces digitalizacije iako postoji očit interes od strane korisnika za korištenjem sveučilišne literature u elektroničkom obliku. U sklopu rada provedeno je istraživanje o prisutnosti elektroničkih udžbenika i priručnika u izdanju sastavnica Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, a istraživanje je uključivalo pregled mrežnih stranica sastavnica, mrežnih knjižničnih kataloga te digitalnih repozitorija. Rezultati su pokazali kako su elektronički izvori ponajviše uključeni u mrežne knjižnične kataloge, no broj elektroničkih priručnika i udžbenika u izdanju sastavnica Sveučilišta u Zagrebu i dalje je neznatan. Autorskopravna pitanja samo su jedan od uzroka malih brojeva naklade elektroničkih izdanja – iako materijala za digitalizaciju te interesa za korištenjem iste u elektroničkom obliku ima u izbilju.University of Zagreb is the oldest and greatest university in Croatia. It is constituted of 34 components, faculties and university department, and each of them has an associated library. The libraries provide indispensable support to the scientific and educational aspect of the University and make effort to keep up with the rapid development of the tecnology and meet the needs of its users. However, they still haven't overcome the digitalisation problems eventhough is evident that the users are interested in using university literature in e-format. This paper includes a survey on presence of electronical textbooks and manuals published by the components of University of Zagreb. The survey involved review of components' websites, online catalogues of academic libraries and digital repositories. The results show that e-books are mostly found in academic libraries' catalogues, however the number of e-book published by the faculties and university department of the University of Zagreb is inconsiderable. One of the main causes of small editions of e-books are copyright issues – eventhough libraries have a lot of materials that could be digitalised and users have showed interest in using it in various formats

    Preparation and characterisation of 2D and 3D functional materials from the group of chalcogenides doped with silver

    Predmet istraživanja ove doktorske disertacije su bila halkogenidna stakla iz sistema Agx(As40S30Se30)100–x (x = 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 12, 13, 15 at. % Ag) – 3D forma i tanki filmovi preparirani iz prethodno sintetisanih stakala (x ≤ 5 at. % Ag) – 2D forma. Utvrđena je oblasti amorfnosti u faznom dijagramu po odabranom preseku.  Ispitivan je uticaj procentualnog udela srebra  na  fizičke  karakteristike sintetisanih stakala i prepariranih tankih filmova koje su  od  značaja  za  primenu  ovakvih  materijala. Izvršena je karakterizacija električnih,  optičkih, strukturnih  i  termičkih  osobina  na  osnovu  kojih  su izvedeni  zaključci  o  uticaju  i  modifikaciji  strukture As40S30Se30 halkogenidne matrice usled inkorporacije atoma srebra. Strukturna analiza ispitivanih sastava je potvrdila homogenost uzoraka sa manjom koncentracijom srebra (x ≤ 5 at. %  Ag), dok je  kod uzoraka sa većim procentualnim udelom ovog metala (x = 10, 13, 15 at. % Ag) pokazano da postoji fazna separacija. Kod sastava sa x = 13 i 15 at. % Ag potvrđena  je  prisutnost kristalnih centara AgAsSe2. Na osnovu rezultata dobijenih DSC tehnikom, pokazano je da pri zagrevanju balk uzoraka dolazi do delimične kristalizacije koja se odvija zapreminski sa dvodimenzionalnim  i  trodimenzionalnim rastomkristalnih centara. Optička i spektralna ispitivanja su pokazala  da uvođenje  Ag  u  matricu  stakla As40S30Se30  dovodi  do  smanjenja  širine  optički zabranjene zone i kod 3D i 2D uzoraka, kao i da svi sastavi ispoljavaju normalan oblik disperzije indeksa prelamanja. Takođe, rezultati Raman  spektroskopije su ukazali  na  činjenicu  da  inkorporacija  srebra  u strukturnu  mrežu  ispitivanih  stakala  utiče  na formiranje Ag–(S,Se)–As veza, odnosno uzrokuje formiranje novih strukturnih jedinica koje bi mogle uticati na provodljivost ovih sastava.  Merenja električnih karakteristika 3D uzoraka izvršena su u jednosmernom i naizmeničnom režimu i pokazano je da  koncentracija  srebra  ima  značajan  uticaj  na električne  osobine.  Utvrđeni  su  različiti  mehanizmi odgovorni za transport  nosilaca naelektrisanja zavisno od  koncentracije dopanta.  Kompleksni impedansni spektri svih sastava  su  ukazali  na prisustvo temperaturske zavisnosti procesa relaksacije, na ne idealan Debye–vski tip relaksacije, kao i negativni temperaturski koeficijent otpornosti koji je karakterističan za poluprovodnike.The subject of this dissertation are chalcogenide  glasses from the system Agx(As40S30Se30)100–x (x = 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 12, 13, 15 at. % Ag) – 3D form and thin films prepared from previously synthesised  glasses (x ≤ 5 at. % Ag) – 2D form. The amorphous  area in the phase diagram was determined by the  selected    tie– line. The influence of the silver  percentage on the physical characteristics of the  synthesized glasses and prepared thin films was  investigated due to the importance of such materials  for the application. Characterization of electrical, optical, structural and thermal properties has been performed, based on which conclusions on theinfluence and structure modification of the As40S30Se30  chalcogenide  matrix due to the  incorporation of silver atoms have been derived. Structural analysis of the investigated samples confirmed the homogeneity of samples with a lower silver concentration (x  ≤  5  at.%  Ag),  while  in samples with a higher percentage content of  this metal (x = 10, 13, 15 at.% Ag) it was shown that  there was a phase separation. The presence of crystal  centers AgAsSe2 was confirmed in the samples with x = 13 and 15 at. % Ag. Based on the results obtained with the DSC technique, it has been shown that by heating the samples, partial crystallization takes place voluminously, with two–dimensional and three–dimensional growth of crystalline centers.  Opticaland spectral investigations have shown that the introduction of Ag into the glass matrix As40S30Se30 leads to a reduction in the optical band gap in both 3D and 2D samples, and that all compositions exhibit a normal dispersion of index of  refraction. Also, the Raman spectroscopy results pointed to the fact that the incorporation of silver into the structural network of the investigated samples influences the formation of  Ag–(S,Se)–As structures that is, causes the formation of new structural units that could affect the conductivity of these compositions. Measurements of the electrical characteristics of the 3D samples were performed in  DC and AC regime and it was shown that silver concentration has a significant effect on electrical properties. Different mechanisms that are responsible for the transport of charge carriers depending on dopant concentration were determined. The complex  impedance spectra of all compositions indicated the presence of the temperature dependence of the relaxation process, the non–Debye relaxation and the negative temperature coefficient of resistance which is characteristic of the semiconductors

    Radio-continuum observations of a giant radio source QSO J0443.8-6141

    We report the discovery of a giant double-lobed (lobe-core-lobe) radio-continuum structure associated with QSO J0443.8-6141 at z=0.72. This QSO was originally identified during the follow-up of a sample of ROSAT All Sky Survey sources at radio and optical frequencies. With a linear size of ~0.77 Mpc, QSO J0443.8-6141 is classified as a giant radio source (GRS); based on its physical properties, we classify QSO J0443.8-6141 as a FR II radio galaxy. High-resolution observations are required to reliably identify GRSs; the next generation of southern sky radio and optical surveys will be crucial to increasing our sample of these objects

    Relapsing mitral valve endocarditis – patient preference meets guidelines

    Introduction: Endocarditis is a devastating infection often leading to significant valvular disfunction. Prolonged antibiotic therapy remains a mainstay of treatment but one third of patients require surgery in course of disease. Classic indications are severe valvular disfunction causing heart failure, septic embolization, difficult to control and local propagation of infection.1,2 Case report: Our patient has had a mitral valve endocarditis 20 years ago leaving behind presumably moderate mitral regurgitation. Last 3 months she had relapsing fever, anorexia and polyarthralgia which were attributed to her osteoporosis. Transthoracic echocardiography showed deformation and thickening of posterior mitral cusp causing severe mitral regurgitation (MR) described in previous exams, but transesophageal study (TEE) also showed a fresh vegetation on anterior mitral cusp. Streptococcus viridans was repeatedly isolated from blood cultures supporting diagnosis of odontogenic subacute endocarditis. There were no signs of heart failure or peripheral embolization. Patient a priori refused any form of surgical treatment. Vancomycin was administered for 4 weeks (due to penicillin allergy) leading to complete clinical recovery, sterilization of blood cultures and disappearance of anterior mitral cusp vegetation on TEE. After regaining full mobility patient still had no symptoms correlated with a MR. Discussion and Conclusion: Severe primary MR after endocarditis in the era of valve reparation seems like straightforward surgical indication. We were surprised to find out that the patient’s reluctance to surgery was justified by her complete recovery from endocarditis and guidelines. Although MR remained severe, left ventricle is mildly dilated (EDD 56mm/ESD 27 mm), hyperdynamic (EF 66%), pulmonary hypertension is mild (sPAP 45 mmHg), and the patient is still in sinus rhythm. Question remains is she truly asymptomatic because recent polyarthritis limited her mobility. Patient was discharged and scheduled for follow up in 3 months

    Ovaj rad predstavit će kratku, ali bogatu povijest nastanka portala Europeane te buduće projekte koji će omogućiti njeno korištenje kao platforme. Prvi dio rada će kroz povijesni pregled prikazati projekte koji su prethodili nastanku Europeane te kako je tekao njezin razvoj. Predstavit će se i sadržaji dostupni na portalu te njihovi opći uvjeti korištenja te korisničko sučelje. Drugi dio rada predstavit će Europeana strategiju 2015-2020, dokument koji opisuje planirani razvoj Europeane kroz sljedećih 5 godina kako bi se omogućila veća iskoristivost dosad prikupljenog sadržaja. Europeana je već započela svoj razvoj kao platforma te će biti ukratko predstavljeni neki od najuspješnijih projekata koji pokazuju mogućnosti integracije digitalizirane kulturne baštine u aplikacije koje olakšavaju svakodnevni život, nudeći od pomoći za lakše savladavanje gradiva do obogaćivanja putovanja

    Poduzetništvo mijenja način na koji živimo i radimo. Ako je uspješno realizirano, njihova revolucija može poboljšati naš životni standard. Osim stvaranja bogatstva iz svojih poduzetničkih pothvata, poduzetnici također stvaraju radna mjesta i uvjete za procvat društva. Poduzetnički pothvati doslovno stvaraju novo bogatstvo. Postojeće tvrtke mogu ostati ograničene na postojeća tržišta i mogu dosegnuti granicu u smislu prihoda. Nove i poboljšane ponude, proizvodi ili tehnologije od poduzetnika omogućuju razvoj novih tržišta i stvaranje novog bogatstva. Poduzetnici redovito njeguju poduzetničke pothvate drugih istomišljenika. Oni također ulažu u projekte u zajednici i pružaju financijsku potporu lokalnim dobrotvornim organizacijama. To omogućuje daljnji razvoj izvan vlastitih pothvata. Poslovni plan pomaže razjasniti vlastitu strategiju, identificirati potencijalne prepreke, odlučiti što će trebati od resursa i procijeniti održivost te ideje ili planova rasta prije nego započne poslovanje. Poslovni plan je dokument koji opisuje tvrtku, njene proizvode ili usluge, kako zarađuje ili će zaraditi novac, njegovo vodstvo i osoblje, njegovo financiranje, model poslovanja i mnoge druge detalje bitne za njegov uspjeh. Rad je napisan kao primjer poduzetničkog projekta ugostiteljskog objekta „Beer&Grill“. Cilj rada je utvrditi financijsku isplativost i prihvatljivost takvog pothvata. Kroz rad je opisan cijeli projekt, njegova financijska struktura, petogodišnji plan otplata, prihoda i rashoda te ostali financijski pokazatelji isplativosti. Tema rada je ugostiteljski objekt osmišljen kao mjesto koje će imati naglasak na praćenje većine sportskih događaja tijekom godine sa svakodnevnim radom te ponudom stranih i domaćih pića ponajviše piva, jela s roštilja te ponudu raznih zabavnih igara unutar samog objekta. U današnje vrijeme konkurencija između uslužnih djelatnosti je izuzeto naglašena i vrlo mali detalji utječu na potrošačev izbor između ponude. Uz kvalitetnu ponudu i dobru poslovnu strategiju može se izići na tržište te postati konkurentnim te udovoljiti potražnji na području grada Zagreba, a u budućnosti i u drugim gradovima diljem zemlje.Entrepreneurs can change the way we live and work. The paper is written as an example of the entrepreneurial project of the restaurant "Beer & Grill". The aim of the paper is to determine the financial viability and acceptability of such venture. Throughout the work, the entire project, its financial structure, the five-year repayment plan, its revenues and expenditures and other financial feasibility indicators are described. The theme of the work is the catering facility designed as a place that will focus on tracking most sporting events throughout the year with daily work and, with the offer of foreign and domestic drinks, most of the beer, grilled dishes and the offer of various fun games within the facility itself. Today, competition between service activities is exaggerated and very small details affect the consumer's choice between bids. With a quality bid and a good business strategy, one can enter the market and become competitive and meet demand in the city of Zagreb and in the future in other cities across the country

    KNOWLEDGE OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES AND PLURILINGUAL COMPETENCE UPON COMPLETING HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION

    Članak predstavlja rezultate istraživanja koje se bavi ispitivanjem mišljenja studenata prve godine studija o poznavanju stranih jezik nakon završene srednje škole i o snalaženju u korištenju prvim i drugim stranim jezikom. Ispituju se dva čimbenika utjecaja na snalaženje u stranom jeziku − trajanje učenja i korištenje jezikom u izvannastavnom kontekstu. Statističkom su analizom ispitani stavovi o utjecaju predznanja materinskog jezika (L1) i prvoga stranog jezika (L2) na učenje drugoga stranog jezika (L3). Utvrđena je signifi kantna korelacija između povezivanja L1 i L2 s L3 i svjesnosti ispitanika o jeziku i učenju jezika, s jedne strane, te između povezivanja jezika i uloge nastavnika u poticanju višejezičnosti, s druge strane. Srednja pozitivna korelacija utvrđena je također između svjesnosti ispitanika o jeziku i učenju jezika te uloge nastavnika. Zaključuje se da postoji potreba za intenzivnijim teoretskim i praktičnim razmatranjem mogućnosti metodike i didaktike trećih jezika u okviru stranojezične nastave i nastave materinskoga jezika.he article presents the results of the research regarding fi rst year student opinions about knowledge of foreign languages upon the completion of high school and on the level of competence in the fi rst and second foreign language. Two factors that infl uence competence in a foreign language are tested – the length of studying and use of the language in non-teaching situations. Attitudes on the infl uence of prior knowledge of the mother tongue (L1) and fi rst foreign language (L2) on learning another foreign language (L3) was statistically analyzed. A signifi cant correlation and their language and language learning awareness have been established. The same goes for the correlation between participants’ ability to establish relationships of L1 and L2 with L3 and the role of the teacher in promoting plurilingualism. A positive correlation was also confi rmed between participants’ language and language learning awareness and the role of the teacher. It can be concluded that there is a need for more intense, theoretical and practical considerations of the possibility of the third language methodology and didactics within both foreign language and mother tongue teaching
