Developed from a desire to explore alternative ways of addressing aspects of architecture, the project After the Architects tells the story of the KTH School of Architecture building through the eyes of me - one of its many users. The project consists of a film, an exhibition and a hand book with mental excercises. Investigating the tools we have at hands as architects in the context of storytelling as a mean of communication, I wanted to dissect the many layers of interpretation and experiences a building consists of. It is often said that the core of a building is what it does and how it does this. Since buildings, rooms and spaces are experienced differently by everyone, I think the active use of subjectivity is the best way of approaching this theme. The KTH School of Architecture building has been my second home for five years. It has hosted architecture education since 1970, but after the summer of 2015, it is entering a new phase as the school is moving to a new building. Therefore, as a student leaving the building, I’m using my subjectivity as a tool for investigating the relationship between the course of time, the school building, and myself.  Which effects and stories has it staged over the years and how has the building affected me, on an intellectual-, as well as on a personal level? Some of the themes I’ve been working with are; the aspects of time, memories and nostalgia, the different roles of a building, spaces as references, and the interplay between perspective, interpretation and meaning.Sprunget ur en önskan att undersöka alternativa sätt att diskutera arkitektoniska aspekter skildrar projektet After the Architects historien om KTH arkitekturskolans byggnad sett genom mina ögon i egenskap av en av dess många användare. Projektet består av en film, en utställning och en handbok med tankeövningar. Genom att använda mig av formen av historieberättande vill jag belysa den mängd av lager av tolkningar och upplevelser som en byggnad skapar förutsättningar för. Det sägs att kärnan i vad en byggnad är består av det den gör och hur den gör detta. Eftersom vi upplever byggnader, rum och platser på olika sätt anser jag att en aktiv användning av det subjektiva perspektivet är det bästa sättet att ta sig an detta ämne. KTHs Arkitekturskola har varit mitt andra hem de senaste fem åren. Sedan 1970 har det inrymt arkitekturutbildningen i Stockholm, men efter vårterminen 2015 går byggnaden in i en ny fas, då skolverksamheten flyttar till en ny byggnad. I egenskap av en student som lämnar byggnaden använder jag mig av min subjektivitet som ett analysverktyg för att undersöka relationen mellan tidens gång, byggnaden och mig själv. Vilka upplevelser och historier har den iscensatt genom åren och hur har byggnaden påverkat mig; både på ett intellektuellt- och på ett känslomässigt plan? Några av de teman jag arbetat med är: tiden & byggnaden, minnen & nostalgi, byggnadens olika roller, platser som referenser, och sambandet mellan perspektiv, tolkning och meningsskapande

Structure from Nothing and Claims for Free: Using a Whole-System View of the Patent System to Improve Notice and Predictability for Software Patents

No uniform or customary method of disclosure for software patents is currently employed by inventors. This Note examines the issues that develop from software patent claims disclosed at various levels of abstraction, and the difficulties encountered by courts and the public when investigating the contours of the software patent space. While the courts have placed some restrictions on the manner in which software inventions are claimed, they are easily bypassed by clever patent applicants who desire to claim the maximum scope of their inventions. In the long run, however, a large “patent thicket” of overlapping and potentially overbroad inventions will work against the interests of inventors who desire to enforce their temporary technological monopolies. A confused field of inventions, when combined with a variety of abstracted disclosures, will result in unpredictable litigation and potentially invalidation of software as a patentable subject completely. Software patentees, like all patent holders, benefit greatly from robust and fair patent protection. In order to achieve the goal of a patent system that effectively balances the rights of the inventor with the right of the public in the interest of progress, however, this Note argues that patentees must recognize their critical role in the patent system and disclose the invention in code or pseudo-code at a level of abstraction that will allow the software community to effectively recreate the invention

Pelatihan Pengolahan Ikan Sebagai Upaya Meningkatkan Pendapatan Masyarakat pada Masa Pandemi Covid-19 di Desa Pilobuhuta Kecamatan Batudaa Kabupaten Gorontalo

Persentase masyarakat yang terdampak negatif finansialnya akibat pandemi covid-19 di Indonesia sangat besar sehingga hal ini berdampak terhadap kesehatan dalam pemenuhan gizi dan terjadi penurunan pendapatan rumah tangga. Melalui kegiatan KKN Tematik ini, akan dipraktikkan pembuatan olahan ikan dalam upaya pemenuhan gizi keluarga dan dapat meningkatkan pendapatan  pada masa pandemi covid-19, sehingga hal tersebut masyarakat dapat mencari alternative lain untuk memenuhi kebutuhan kesehatan tentang gizi dan meningkatkan pendapatan keluarga sulitnya perputaran ekonomi akibat pandemi covid-19 dan  menjadi kebiasaan baru dalam mengolah dan mengembangkan hasil tangkapan para nelayan tersebut menjadi produk lebih bernilai jual tinggi. Tujuan pelaksanaan pengabdian ini adalah untuk meningkatan pengetahuan tentang gizi, meningkatkan keterampilan pengolahan bakso, abon ikan dan nugget ikan  pada ibu-ibu rumah tangga dan remaja putri. Tujuan tersebut dapat diwujudkan dengan berbagai tindakan solutif diantaranya: (1) pendampingan tentang pangan dan gizi secara umum, (2) penyuluhan tentang komposisi nutrisi dan manfaat ikan, (3) penyuluhan tentang berbagai olahan produk berbasis ikan (4) pelatihan pengolahan ikan menjadi bakso, abon ikan dan nugget ikan dll.. Metode yang dipakai dalam pencapaian tujuan tersebut adalah memberikan pendampingan dan pelatihan kepada masyarakat dengan mentransfer ilmu. Metode tersebut adalah dengan memberikan pengetahuan yang disertai praktek pembelajaran kelompok dalam mengelola ikan menjadi produk dan teknik pemasarannya. Sasaran pelatihan ini adalah  kaum ibu-ibu dan remaja putri yang diberikan pendampingan agar dapat memiliki keterampilan (life skill) yang dapat memenuhi kebutuhan keluarga baik dari segi pemenuhan Gizi bagi kesehatan mauoun dari pendapatan. Hasil kegiatan ini memperlihatkan bahwa (1) adanya peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat tentang pangan dan gizi serta inovasi olahan Ikan. (2) masyarakat memiliki keterampilan mengolah produk ikan menjadi bakso, abon ikan dan nugget ikan dll.(3) Pengetahuan dan keterampilan tersebut dapat dijadikan sebagai rintisan usaha dalam memenuhi kebutuhan hidup masyarakat, sehingga kasus stunting yang terjadi dapat diminimalisir.

Torts--Parent\u27s Recovery for Loss of Society and Companionship of Child

In situations where a child has been killed or injured as the result of a third party\u27s negligent, tortious act, case law overwhelmingly supports the view that a parent may not recover damages from the third-party tortfeasor for the loss of the child\u27s society and companionship. A growing minority of cases, however, have expreessly recognized that such losses are recoverable, and other cases have employed language susceptible to the interpretation that recovery for such losses may be allowed. While most of this development has been in the area of wrongful death, rather than personal injury, the analysis for one area is without distinction from the analysis for the other.\u27 Consideration will be given to the cases in which this issue has been raised, and to the justifications that courts have used to arrive at their decisions to exclude or include such loss as an element of damages

The \u3cem\u3eHalo\u3c/em\u3e Effect: Willful Infringement and Enhanced Damages in Light of \u3cem\u3eHalo\u3c/em\u3e

The Supreme Court’s decision in Halo Electronics, Inc. v. Pulse Electronics, Inc. overruled the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit’s longstanding Seagate test and empowered district courts to exercise their discretion in deciding whether to enhance damages for willful patent infringement. In the three years since the Halo decision, district courts have developed their own approaches to addressing willfulness allegations at the various stages of litigation, including pleading, summary judgment, trial, and post-trial. This Article observes trends in how district courts have addressed willfulness claims at each stage of litigation, highlights factors courts have considered when declining to enhance damages for an infringer’s egregious misconduct, and identifies practice tips in view of the emerging trends in the case law

Kinerja Komisi Pemilihan Umum Daerah Kota Tomohon Dalam Meningkatkan Partisipasi Masyarakat Pada Pemilihan Kepala Daerah Tahun 2020

Tujuan ini penelitian ini adalah Untuk mengetahui Kinerja Komisi Pemilihan Umum Daerah Kota Tomohon dalam Meningkatkan Partisipasi Masyarakat Pada Pemilihan Kepala Daerah Tahun 2020. Pemilihan umum merupakan salah satu pilar dari sebuah demokrasi. Salah satu konsep modern yang menempatkan penyelenggaraan pemilihan umum yang bebas dan berkala sebagai kriteria utama bagi sebuah sistem politik agar dapat disebut sebuah demokrasi (Sarbani, 2015). Partisipasi politik masyarakat berkaitan erat dengan demokrasi suatu negara. Dalam negara demokratis, kedaulatan tertinggi berada di tangan rakyat, yang pelaksanaannya melalui kegiatan bersama untuk menetapkan tujuan-tujuan, serta masa depan dan untuk menentukan orang-orang yang akan memegang pimpinan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Dalam tahapan Pilkada serentak tahun 2020 kinerja KPU Kota Tomohon khususnya Divisi Perencanaan Program dan Data dengan unit analisis produktivitas, kualitas layanan, responsivitas, responsibiltas, dan akuntabilitas berjalan dengan baik artinya sikap pegawai secara keseluruhan sangat siap mulai dari tahap penyusunan anggaran yang memang sudah ada dalam PKPU no. 2 dan atas dasar keputusan Permendagri 54. kualitas layanan dalam melaksanakan tugas bahwa tingkat kecermatan divisi sudah baik, dibuktikan dengan berjalannya program-program yang telah disusun dengan baik.     Kata Kunci: : Kinerja, KPUD, Partisipasi Masyarakat &nbsp

Recruiting and Retaining People with Disabilities for Qualitative Health Research: Challenges and Solutions

There are 56.7 million people with disabilities (PWD) living in the United States; yet, PWD are significantly underrepresented in health research. Even when researchers purposively seek to include PWD in studies, challenges emerge related to recruitment and retention, leading to inadequate representation and surface understandings of this population. This in turn contributes to the perpetuation of implicit and explicit health disparities that are already experienced by this population. Grounded within a qualitative, community-based participatory health research framework, we highlight challenges associated with recruiting and retaining PWD in health research, including a critical analysis of the research enterprise structure, how this disables accessible research practices for PWD, and leads to continued skepticism among PWD regarding the value of participating in research. Finally, we propose solutions to create and maintain a culture of access and inclusion as well as long-term collaborative and equity-focused partnerships

Let´s meet at Gamla torget : a design proposal to entice people to stay and meet at a square in Uppsala city

Uppsala stad, intill stadens gågata och kantad av Fyrisån ligger Gamla torget. Det är en plats som har utgjort en nyckelpunkt under mina år i Uppsala. Jag ville ändra användningen av ett torg som många passerar men få stannar och använder. Torget har stora kvaliteter i form av utsikt, närhet till vatten samt placering i staden. För mig personligen har jag har länge tänkt på att Gamla torget har större potential än vad torgytan idag används för. Det är ett centralt beläget torg, med både utsikt och närhet till vatten. Fokus för gestaltningsförslaget ligger i att stärka torget som mötesplats. Det gör jag genom att lägga fokus på att integrera mötes- och sittmöjligheter i gestaltningslösningen.Syftet var att skapa ett levande torg, en intressant plats för människor att stanna och mötas. Examensarbetet har titeln ”Vi möts på Gamla torget - En gestaltning av ett torg i centrala Uppsala för att locka människor att stanna och mötas”. Metoden för att genomföra gestaltningen, följde processtegen som landskapsarkitektutbildningen lär ut med inventering och analys där de viktigaste aspekterna kondenserades till ett program. Metoden tog även inspiration från metodstegen vid produktdesign. Min inventering och analys av Gamla torget visade att människor rörde sig över torget men sällan vistades på torgytan någon längre stund. Andra viktiga nyckelfaktorer för gestaltningen var det soliga läget samt utformningen av en bilpassage till närliggande garage. Relationen mellan bilar och gångtrafikanter var otydlig, vilket påverkade platsen negativt och gjorde upplevelsen stökig. Litteratursökningen utfördes efter nyckelorden; Landskapsarkitektur, torg, offentlig miljö och mötesplats. Litteraturen visade att följande faktorer är viktiga för att skapa en mötesplats: att vägar korsas, att man bygger ett intresse för platsen, tillgång på vegetation, tydlighet i relation mellan bilister och gångtrafikanter, inbjudande effekter både dag och kvällstid, utformning med valmöjligheter och slutligen att platsen går att nå på ett enkelt sätt. Gestaltningsförslaget tog hjälp av litteraturen för att nå syftet att skapa en mötesplats. Resultatet blev ett torg där torgnamnet fick spela en stor roll. Förstorade bokstäver med torgets namn användes som sittplatser och för att uppmärksamma torgets gränser användes ett pilträd, med starkt hängande grenar som en förträngning vid passagen mot gågatan. Examensarbetet redovisas som planscher för att använda de verktyg för presentation som används inom yrket. Textbilagan beskriver projektets syfte, avgränsning och metod samt innehåller reflektioner över resultatet i en diskussionsdel. I textbilagan återfinns även själva litteraturstudien för projektet.In Uppsala city, close to the biggest shopping street in close proximity to Fyrisån river you find Gamla torget. It’s a city square that has been a key point in my everyday life as a citizen of Uppsala. But when I thought about it I have never actually ever stayed in the square for any purpose other than to park my bicycle. When I observed other peoples behaviour, it seemed to be common that Gamla torget was more of an passageway than a location where people would stay. I wanted to change the use of the square and decided to make a design proposal for Gamla torget as my master project. I have chosen Gamla torget with the intention to create a design with the purpose of creating an interesting place for people to stay and meet each other. The title of this project is: ”Let´s meet at Gamla torget -A design proposal to entice people to stay and meet at a square in the central part of Uppsala city”
