IMPACT. 1: Faculty and students volunteer at the Ask a Buckeye Nurse Forums, a health initiative that provides free health screenings and education, conducted biweekly at a local barbershop. -- 2. Community grants provide seed money for community initiated health-based programs for Near East Side residents. Thirteen community grants have been awarded over the past two years, with impactful outcomes. -- 3. The program provides community-engagement opportunities for students and faculty. "Knowing that I was participating in the needs assessment of the under-served Mt. Vernon area added authenticity to our interactions in the community and provided a more engaging educational environment."OSU PARTNERS: College of Nursing; College of Dentistry; African American and African Studies Community; Extension CenterCOMMUNITY PARTNERS: Making a Difference, Inc.; Eldon and Elsie Ward Family YMCAPRIMARY CONTACT: Jennifer Kue ([email protected])The Making a Difference Program is a community-engaged project designed to address health disparities in the Near East Side. The program implements health and wellness activities with community residents in prevention and self-management of their health, while creating enhanced experiential learning for nursing students, and research opportunities for faculty and graduate students. The program also helps build community capacity through skill development and funding community-initiated projects

Emily Dickinson, the Tyrant, and the Daemon: A Critique of Societal Oppression, and the Significance of Artistic Truth

This thesis argues that art, for Dickinson, was an alternative system of salvation which her society could not provide her. Unwilling to surrender herself to the mold of her society, the institutional practice of Christianity and gender expectations, Dickinson chose to take ownership of her life through art, which allowed her to develop a personal language to combat the oppressive forces of the world around her. As a conscious “revolutionist of the word” Dickinson embarked on a path of self-discovery that enabled her to conduct a life in self-imposed exile as a means to emancipate herself from the constraints of conventional living (Howe xi). As Gelpi explains, the normal man can follow the general trend without injury.... but the man who takes to the backstreets and alleys because he cannot endure the broad highway will be the first to discover the psychic elements that are waiting to play their part. (Gelpi 83) Because Dickinson refused to struggle or integrate herself into her society, she enabled herself to fiercely explore her imagination and question the tyranny of institutionalized Christianity, patriarchy, and gender expectations. The commitment she would make to art was not for the sake of an elusive promise of redemption and transcendence of the ‘earthly,’ but rather a temporal goal which sought to uncover the full potential of her humanity as intensely as possible no matter the consequence. As a woman who harnessed and manifested an unnameable gift of language that defied and challenged the people and concepts of her time, Dickinson’s work depicts the struggle between succumbing to the expectations of society and the will to live by the dictates of her imagination

Chilli veinal mottle virus (CVMV) is a serious problem and has become a major limiting factor in growing and production of chilli in Malaysia. This virus is transmitted non-persistently by aphid, Aphis gossypii. CVMV control efforts have been unsuccessful due to lack of knowledge on the epidemiology of the virus. S tudies on transmission and spread of CVMV to chilli using nymphs and adults of A. gossypii were conducted in the laboratory and glasshouse. Aphids and test plants (Capsicum annuumcv. Me 4) were A single A . gossypii was abl e to transmit and r e tain CVMV regardless whether it was fed or starved. A. gossypii lost CVMV infectivity more rapidly in serial transfer (when feeding) than in post- acquisition starvation (when starving). Transmission level decreased as the period of serial transfer (0-60 min) and post-acquisition starvation time (1-120 min) increased, however, the level of transmission increased with aphid density. cultured and maintained in insect proof glasshouse. Fifteen seconds and thirty seconds acquisition feeding time were found to be the optimum time for A. gossypii to transmit CVMV. All aphid forms were equally efficient in CVMV transmission.Colony establishment of A. gossypii was faster when aphids were initially released on healthy plants than on CVMV infected plants. Apterous vectors spread CVMV more efficiently than alate vectors. However, CVMV s pread faster when A. gossypii was placed on the inoculum source. Apterous adults released near the inoculum source achieved the highest level of transmission compared with the alates. In the beginning, CVMV spread occurred mostly near the inoculum source and moved outward thereafter

The Various Perspectives of Colonial Rule in Korea and the Possibility of "Historical" Reconciliation

Comparative studies of the history of each country in Northeast Asia will primarily be a basis for improving mutual understanding among the countries. This paper will analyze the causes of the not-so-peaceful history of invasion, war, and violation of human rights by reflecting on the Northeast Asian past and provide guidelines for a peaceful future for the “Northeast Asian community,” thereby settling conflicts and troubles and creating the basis for a “historical” reconciliation. Given the reality of the often rather tense historical conflicts in Northeast Asia, joint development of history textbooks has a huge significance, although undertaken at the non-governmental level. Despite these achievements, one can say that joint research in Northeast Asia is still in its infancy. More such concrete research should be conducted, adopting the comparative approach in various fields in the future. Historical events and facts in Northeast Asia have historical value only when they bear desirable fruit for the future of Northeast Asi

The prevalence of nosocomial infections around the world is a serious concern for all health services, especially in hospitals. One of the contributing factors is non-compliance in the implementation of handwashing procedures in accordance with standard operating procedures. The study aims to determine the level of compliance of nurses in the implementation of the five-moment Handwashing at the Dungingi Health Center in 2020. The design used is obsevasional descriptive with a cross sectional approach. The total sample was 97 people taken by purposive sampling . The data analysis carried out in this study is univariate data analysts. The results of the study found that most respondents had a compliance rate of less than 69.1%, moderate compliance as much as 18.6% and good compliance as much as 12.4%. It is recommended that all nurses be more concerned about the importance of implementing the five-moment hand hygiene standard procedure, and the Puskesmas provides rewards to nurses who are obedient in implementing these standards

The production of mustard pakcoy (Brassica rapa L.) depends on the level of soil properties. Therefore, a study was conducted to determine the physical and chemical properties of the soil for mustard cultivation and its relationship. This research is quantitative descriptive. Observation variables in this study were C-organic soil, soil texture, soil moisture content, porosity, and bulk density. Laboratory data from soil physical properties and C-organic soil were matched with soil chemical criteria and evaluation of land suitability, After that, correlation analysis is used to see the relationship. The results showed that the C-organic content of the soil in Wolofeo Village was 3.01%-3.54% and was classified as high. While the physical properties of the soil in Wolofeo Village are for soil moisture content ranging from 39.77% -41.11%, Porosity ranges from 52.42% -61.33%, Fill Density ranges from 1.02 -1.26 g/ cm3, and the soil texture is sandy loam. These criteria are very suitable conditions for the cultivation of mustard greens. The relationship between C-organic soil and soil physical properties shows a significant relationship
