Tracing and Explaining Execution of CLP(FD) Programs

    Get PDF
Previous work in the area of tracing CLP(FD) programs mainly focuses on providing information about control of execution and domain modification. In this paper, we present a trace structure that provides information about additional important aspects. We incorporate explanations in the trace structure, i.e. reasons for why certain solver actions occur. Furthermore, we come up with a format for describing the execution of the filtering algorithms of global constraints. Some new ideas about the design of the trace are also presented. For example, we have modeled our trace as a nested block structure in order to achieve a hierarchical view. Also, new ways about how to represent and identify different entities such as constraints and domain variables are presented.Comment: 16 pages; Alexandre Tessier, editor; WLPE 2002, http://xxx.lanl.gov/abs/cs.SE/020705

Etude expérimentale sur le traitement de l'accord sujet-verbe en nombre en FLE

This experimental study adapts a usage-based perspective on L2 acquisition (Bybee 2008; Ellis 2008) and focuses on the production of French subject-verb (SV) agreement in number (singular vs. plural). Previous studies show that the acquisition of this agreement is a long and gradual process in L2 French (Bartning & Schlyter 2004; Prévost 2009; Michot 2015). This study examines the influence of different internal and external factors on the production of SV agreement in L2 learners. More specifically, we investigate the role played by the learners' proficiency level, the input frequency of specific verb forms and the impact of written stimuli on spoken language production. Data from 42 Swedish learners and 21 French native speakers was collected through an elicited imitation test. Results show that the proficiency level of the learners as well as the type of stimuli (spoken or written) had a significant impact of the production of SV agreement in the imitation test. However, the token frequency of individual verb forms in the input did not seem to influence the use of number agreement in the L2 learners

Standardized Comprehensive Measure to Guide Older Adult Discharge in Acute Care

    Get PDF
Background: In the acute care setting, occupational therapists play an important role in providing recommendations for discharge. Striving for appropriate and safe discharge is critical in avoiding hospital readmission, reducing safety risks, and promoting optimal functioning in older adults. 3.3 million adults are readmitted into the hospital within 30 days after discharge in the U.S., costing $41.3 billion annually (LaPointe, 2019). The average patient stay in the acute care setting is 5.5 days in the United States, putting occupational therapists in a time crunch to evaluate, treat, and prepare patients for discharge (OECD, 2017)

Curl-free positive definite form of time-harmonic Maxwells equations well-suitable for iterative numerical solving

A new form of time-harmonic Maxwells equations is developed and proposed for numerical modeling. It is written for the magnetic field strength, electric displacement, vector potential and the scalar potential. There are several attractive features of this form. The first one is that the differential operator acting on these quantities is positive. The second is absence of curl operators among the leading order differential operators. The Laplacian stands for the leading order operator in the equations for the magnetic field strength, vector potential and the scalar potential, while the gradient of divergence stands for the electric displacement. The third feature is absence of space varied coefficients in the leading order differential operators that provides diagonal domination of the resulting matrix of the discretized equations. A simple example is given to demonstrate the applicability of this new form of time-harmonic Maxwells equations.Comment: Invited talk for 47th Annual EPS Plasma Conferenc

ZnO Nanostructures for Drug Delivery and Theranostic Applications

    Get PDF
In the last two decades, zinc oxide (ZnO) semiconductor Quantum dots (QDs) have been shown to have fantastic luminescent properties, which together with their low-cost, low-toxicity and biocompatibility have turned these nanomaterials into one of the main candidates for bio-imaging. The discovery of other desirable traits such as their ability to produce destructive reactive oxygen species (ROS), high catalytic efficiency, strong adsorption capability and high isoelectric point, also make them promising nanomaterials for therapeutic and diagnostic functions. Herein, we review the recent progress on the use of ZnO based nanoplatforms in drug delivery and theranostic in several diseases such as bacterial infection and cancer

Amelogenin an extracellular matrix protein in the treatment of venous leg ulcers and other hard to heal wounds. experimental and clinical evidence

    Get PDF
Abstract: Amelogenins are extracellular matrix proteins that, under physiological conditions, self-assemble into globular aggregates up to micron-sizes. Studies with periodontal fibroblasts indicate that attachment to these structures increases the endogenous secretion of multiple growth factors and cell proliferation. Pre-clinical and clinical studies indicate that cutaneous wounds benefit from treatment with amelogenins. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) involving patients with hard-to-heal venous leg ulcers (VLUs) (ie, ulcers with a surface area ≥10 cm2 and duration of ≥6 months) showed that the application of amelogenin (Xelma®, Molnlycke Health Care, Gothenburg, Sweden) as an adjunct treatment to compression results in significant reduction in ulcer size, improvement in the state of ulcers, reduced pain, and a larger proportion of ulcers with low levels of exudate, compared with treatment with compression alone. Amelogenin therapy was also shown to be safe to use in that there were no significant differences in adverse events noted between patients treated with amelogenin plus compression and those treated with compression alone. Case study evaluations indicate that the benefits of amelogenin therapy demonstrated in the RCT are being repeated in “real life” situations and that amelogenin therapy may also have a role to play in the treatment of other wound types such as diabetic foot ulcers

Downstream changes in DOC:inferring contributions in the face of model uncertainties

Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is a central constituent of surface waters which control its characteristic color and chemistry. While the sources and controls of headwater stream DOC can be mechanistically linked to the dominant landscape types being drained, much remains unknown about the downstream controls at larger spatial scales. As DOC is transported from the headwaters to catchment outlets, the fate of stream DOC is largely dependent on the interaction of varying catchment processes. In this study, we investigated the main mechanisms regulating stream DOC in a mesoscale catchment. A landscape-mixing model was used to test the role of landscapes in determining stream concentrations. The quantity of DOC lost to in-stream processes was calculated using bacterial respiration and photooxidation rates. We investigated whether there was a change in water pathways using a mass balance model and comparison of hydrology between a headwater catchment and the entire catchment. A Monte Carlo approach was used to test robustness of the model assumptions and results to uncertainty in the process parameterizations. The results indicated that during high- and intermediate-flow conditions, DOC concentrations were regulated by the contributing upstream landscape types. During base flow, the connectivity between the mesoscale river and the upstream landscape reduced resulting in large residuals in the landscape model which could not be explained by the in-stream processes. Both the mass balance model and a specific runoff comparison between upstream/downstream sites independently indicated large input of deep groundwater during base flow. Deep groundwater was important for diluting stream DOC concentrations during base flow.
