Flat histogram simulation of lattice polymer systems

We demonstrate the use of a new algorithm called the Flat Histogram sampling algorithm for the simulation of lattice polymer systems. Thermodynamics properties, such as average energy or entropy and other physical quantities such as end-to-end distance or radius of gyration can be easily calculated using this method. Ground-state energy can also be determined. We also explore the accuracy and limitations of this method. Key words: Monte Carlo algorithms, flat histogram sampling, HP model, lattice polymer systemsComment: 7 RevTeX two-column page

Conservative Treatment Of The Dentigerous Cyst: Report Of Two Cases

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to present two cases of dentigerous cyst associated to permanent teeth in children treated by conservative techniques. Dentigerous cyst is the most common developmental cysts of the jaws. Conservative treatment is very effective to this entity and aims at eliminating the cystic tissue and preserving the permanent tooth involved in the pathology. Two techniques are described as conservative treatment for these cysts, marsupialization and the decompression. Two children presented with dentigerous cysts. A female child was affected by a large lesion at the right side of the mandible associated to tooth 45. The other lesion arose at the left maxilla associated to tooth 21 of a male child. Each dentigerous cyst promoted severe tooth displacement. The first patient was treated with decompression and the second with marsupialization.1215256Kumar, R., Singh, R.K., Pandey, R.K., Mohammad, S., Ram, H., Inflammatory dentigerous cyst in a ten-year-old child (2012) Natl J Maxillofac Surg, 3, pp. 80-83Pinheiro, R.S., Castro, G.F., Roter, M., Netto, R., Meirelles Jr., V., Janini, M.E., An unusual dentigerous cyst in a young child (2013) Gen Dent, 61, pp. 62-64Picciotti, M., Divece, L., Parrini, S., Pettini, M., Lorenzini, G., Replantation of tooth involved in dentigerous cyst: a case report (2012) Eur J Paediatr Dent, 13, pp. 349-351Marwah, N., Bishen, K.A., Prabha, V., Goenka, P., A conservative approach in the management of inflammatory dentigerous cyst in transitional dentition: a case report (2012) Eur J Paediatr Dent, 13, pp. 349-351Benn, A., Altini, M., Dentigerous cysts of inflammatory origin A clinicopathologic study (1996) Oral Surg Oral Med Oral Pathol Oral Radiol Endod, 81, pp. 203-209de Matos, F.R., Nonaka, C.F., Pinto, L.P., de Souza, L.B., de Almeida Freitas, R., Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor: retrospective study of 15 cases with emphasis on histopathologic features (2012) Head Neck Pathol, 6, pp. 430-437Lima, G.S., Fontes, S.T., de Araújo, L.M., Etges, A., Tarquinio, S.B., Gomes, A.P., A survey of oral and maxillofacial biopsies in children: a single-center retrospective study of 20 years in Pelotas-Brazil (2008) J Appl Oral Sci, 16, pp. 397-402Hyomoto, M., Kawakami, M., Inoue, M., Kirita, T., Clinical conditions for eruption of maxillary canines and mandibular premolars associated with dentigerous cysts (2003) Am J Orthod Dentofac Orthop, 124, pp. 515-520Horowitz, R.A., Giannasca, P.J., Woodcock, C.L., Ultrastructural preservation of nuclei and chromatin: improvement with low-temperature methods (1990) J Microsc, 157, pp. 205-224Benichou, G., Tonsho, M., Tocco, G., Nadazdin, O., Madsen, J.C., Innate immunity and resistance to tolerogenesis in allotransplantation (2012) Front Immunol, 3, p. 73Gervasio, A.M., Silva, D.A., Taketomi, E.A., Souza, C.J., Sung, S.S., Loyola, A.M., Levels of GM-CSF, IL-3, and IL-6 in fluid and tissue from human radicular cysts (2005) J Dent Res, 81, pp. 64-68Takagi, S., Koyama, S., Guided eruption of an impacted second premolar associated with a dentigerous cyst in the maxillary sinus of a 6-year-old child (1999) J Oral Maxillofac Surg, 56, pp. 237-245Miyawaki, S., Hyomoto, M., Tsubauchi, J., Eruption speed and rate of angulation change of a cyst-associated mandibular second premolar after marsupialization of a dentigerous cyst (1999) Am J Orthod Dentofac Orthop, 116, pp. 578-58

A Polícia E As Formas De Feminização Da Violência Contra O Idoso

    Get PDF
The text examines the way in which police officers deal with violence against the elderly in different types of police precincts as regular police stations, police station of women defense and police stations for the elderly protection. Based on ethnographic accounts of some of these police apparatus and on the analysis of documents they produced, the article highlights the disconnection between the images police officers constructed on old age and those over 60 years of age that comes to the police asking for their help. The main argument is that this disconnection leads to a feminization of old age and to a perception of elderly abuse as a consequence of a lack of familial morality.2121528Ardaillon, D., (1989) Estado e mulher: Conselhos dos Direitos da Mulher e Delegacias de Defesa da Mulher, , São Paulo, Fundação Carlos Chagas. Evaluation of Cardiac Autonomic Modulation Using Symbolic Dynamics after Cardiac Transplantation

    Get PDF
Objective: To characterize the behavior of cardiac autonomic modulation in individuals with different times after orthotopic heart transplantation (HTx) using symbolic dynamics analysis. Methods: Sixty patients were evaluated after HTx. We recorded their instantaneous R-R intervals (RRi) by cardiac monitor Polar (R) RS800CX (TM) (Polar Electro Oy, Kempele, Finland) for 10 minutes. The same sequence of RRi with 256 consecutive beats was used to perform spectral analysis and symbolic dynamics analysis. We used hierarchical clustering to form groups. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) (with Holm-Sidak method) or one-way Kruskal-Wallis test (with Dunn's post-hoc test) was used to analyze the difference between groups. Linear correlation analysis between variables was performed using Pearson's or Spearman's tests. P-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The 0V% index increased, the 2UV% index and the normalized complexity index decreased with an increase of HTx postoperative time. There were a negative correlation between complexity indexes and 0V% and a positive correlation between complexity indexes and 2UV%. Conclusion: Symbolic dynamics indexes were able to show a specific cardiac autonomic modulation pattern for HTx recipients with different postoperative times

Galerkin Method in the Gravitational Collapse: a Dynamical System Approach

    Get PDF
We study the general dynamics of the spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field. We apply the Galerkin projection method to transform a system of partial differential equations into a set of ordinary differential equations for modal coefficients, after a convenient truncation procedure, largely applied to problems of turbulence. In the present case, we have generated a finite dynamical system that reproduces the essential features of the dynamics of the gravitational collapse, even for a lower order of truncation. Each initial condition in the space of modal coefficients corresponds to a well definite spatial distribution of scalar field. Numerical experiments with the dynamical system show that depending on the strength of the scalar field packet, the formation of black-holes or the dispersion of the scalar field leaving behind flat spacetime are the two main outcomes. We also found numerical evidence that between both asymptotic states, there is a critical solution represented by a limit cycle in the modal space with period Δu3.55\Delta u \approx 3.55.Comment: 9 pages, revtex4, 10 ps figures; Phys. The anisotropic Ashkin-Teller model: a renormalization group study

The two-dimensional ferromagnetic anisotropic Ashkin-Teller model is investigated through a real-space renormalization-group approach. The critical frontier, separating five distinct phases, recover all the known exacts results for the square lattice. The correlation length (νT)(\nu_T) and crossover (ϕ)(\phi) critical exponents are also calculated. With the only exception of the four-state Potts critical point, the entire phase diagram belongs to the Ising universality class.Comment: 3 ps figures, accepted for publication in Physica

Repeated exposure to Lutzomyia intermedia sand fly saliva induces local expression of interferon-inducible genes both at the site of injection in mice and in human blood.

During a blood meal, Lutzomyia intermedia sand flies transmit Leishmania braziliensis, a parasite causing tegumentary leishmaniasis. In experimental leishmaniasis, pre-exposure to saliva of most blood-feeding sand flies results in parasite establishment in absence of any skin damages in mice challenged with dermotropic Leishmania species together with saliva. In contrast, pre-immunization with Lu. intermedia salivary gland sonicate (SGS) results in enhanced skin inflammatory exacerbation upon co-inoculation of Lu. intermedia SGS and L. braziliensis. These data highlight potential unique features of both L. braziliensis and Lu. intermedia. In this study, we investigated the genes modulated by Lu. intermedia SGS immunization to understand their potential impact on the subsequent cutaneous immune response following inoculation of both SGS and L. braziliensis. The cellular recruitment and global gene expression profile was analyzed in mice repeatedly inoculated or not with Lu. intermedia. Microarray gene analysis revealed the upregulation of a distinct set of IFN-inducible genes, an immune signature not seen to the same extent in control animals. Of note this INF-inducible gene set was not induced in SGS pre-immunized mice subsequently co-inoculated with SGS and L. braziliensis. These data suggest the parasite prevented the upregulation of this Lu. intermedia saliva-related immune signature. The presence of these IFN-inducible genes was further analyzed in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) sampled from uninfected human individuals living in a L. braziliensis-endemic region of Brazil thus regularly exposed to Lu. intermedia bites. PBMCs were cultured in presence or absence of Lu. intermedia SGS. Using qRT-PCR we established that the IFN-inducible genes induced in the skin of SGS pre-immunized mice, were also upregulated by SGS in PBMCs from human individuals regularly exposed to Lu. intermedia bites, but not in PBMCs of control subjects. These data demonstrate that repeated exposure to Lu. intermedia SGS induces the expression of potentially host-protective IFN-inducible genes

Performance And Economic Analysis Of Finished Lambs In Feedlot

    Get PDF
This study aimed to evaluate animal performance and economic performance of feedlot crossbred lambs (Santa Inês+ - Suffolk) fed different diets based on hay from Cynodon dactylon genotypes, through the use of financial measures considering only the period of feedlot, without relating it to the complete management cycle. A total of 30 intact crossbred Suffolk lambs, identified with earrings, with an average age of 90 days and an average body weight of 21.5 kg were used in this study. Diets were formulated using as treatments a standard concentrate and hay of the Cynodon dactylon genotypes Jiggs, Vaquero, Tifton 68, Coast-Cross, Tifton 85 and Russell in a 60:40 forage-to-concentrate ratio. The treatments were distributed in a randomized complete block design with five replicates. There were significant differences between diets in terms of total expenditure on food, and the highest values were obtained for the Jiggs genotype (BRL 48.96/animal). The animals fed diets based on Tifton 68 hay had a higher rate of return (2.16%) and profitability (34.63%) compared to the other diets. The use of diets based on Tifton 68 hay for feedlot lambs in the finishing phase brings higher economic returns compared to the remaining diets.37129330

Characteristic Time and Maximum Mixedness: Single Mode Gaussian States in Dissipative Channels

We derive an upper limit for the mixedness of single bosonic mode gaussian states propagating in dissipative channels. It is a function of the initial squeezing and temperature of the channel only. Moreover the time at which von Neumann's entropy reaches its maximum value coincides with that of complete loss of coherence, thus defining a quantum-classical transition.Comment: Accepted versio
