Tracking sea bed topography in the Jurassic. The Lotena Group in the Sierra de la Vaca Muerta (Neuquén Basin, Argentina)
The Lotena Group is a clastic to evaporitic unit up to 650 m thick that accumulated during the Middle to Late Jurassic in the Neuquén Basin, western Argentina. Extensive field work carried out in the Sierra de la Vaca Muerta and Arroyo Covunco areas, including the measurement of seven detailed stratigraphic sections and geo- logical mapping allow the discrimination of six unconformity-bounded units or sequences. The first sequence is composed of red beds and evaporites belonging to the Tábanos Formation that unconformably overlies strata of the Lower to Middle Jurassic Cuyo Group. Sequences 2 to 5 are shallow marine and display a basal sandstone interval attributed to confined shelfal sandstone lobes. These grade vertically into unconfined shelfal sandstone lobes, and terminate with carbonate deposits. The basal interval is restricted to the thickest areas of each sequence, a relationship attributed to structural relief. Sequence 6 has a very irregular shape and strongly trun- cates the underlying deposits. It is composed almost entirely of massive carbonate strata that were deposited by density currents. Facies analysis and stratigraphic mapping suggest periodic recycling of previous accumula- tions. Stratigraphic evidence suggests that the Lotena Group in the Sierra de la Vaca Muerta and adjacent areas probably accumulated over a tectonically unstable basement. Sequences 1, 2 and 3 display evidence of accumu- lation in an extensional tectonic setting, while sequences 4, 5 and 6 experienced a northward shift of their depocentres associated with extensive erosional truncation of the marginal areas, suggesting that accumulation was affected by early stages of growth of the Covunco anticline.Fil: Zavala, Carlos Alberto.
The term evolution leads to a lack of depth in the explanation of development phenomena. This paper explains a valuable use of the term evolution to increase the wealth of research in language acquisition. It also suggests a new use for the terms on developments in specific adaptation
This work is a critique to the studies
on the evolution of language by means
of the identification of three epistemic
problems. The epistemic critics starts
with the definition of language and the
unit of evolution. The result is to refer
us from the question about the origin
of language to the question about the
origin of the human being which are
the other two epistemic problems. The
up-per limit in the study on language
evolution is how to know what is to
be human. In this way, we understand
that the studies on the evolution of
language are about the process of how
we recognize ourselves as humans. The
lack of the definition of language to have
the unit of evolution, with the confusion
about the origin of language and humans
points that the evolution of language is
still at the level of a taxonomy, far to be
a systematic explanation of language or
evolution.

ON THE UNDERSTANDING OF AEOLIAN SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY: AN EXAMPLE FROM MIOCENE-PLIOCENE DEPOSITS IN PATAGONIA, ARGENTINA
Upper Tertiary aeolian strata (Río Negro Formation) outcrop in extensive sea cliffs at the Northeast of Patagonia. These outcrops show deposits corresponding to a complete suite of aeolian and aeolian related sub-environments, and also provide excellent exposures to analyse the sedimentology and internal architecture from a sequence stratigraphic point of view. Field studies, supplemented withline-drawings of oblique photographs, allowed the recognition of seven aeolian depositional sequences within the succession, each one bounded by regional super surfaces (or deflation surfaces). Internally these aeolian sequences display a cyclic recurrence in facies, that yields a tentative genetic model for their evolution. As documented from field examples, each basic aeolian depositional sequence was deposited during a single aggradational period, and is bounded by unconformities related to degradational periods. Degradational periods are regional deflationary events, that resulted in deep-scoured to flat surfaces, characterised by erosion / non deposition in which the only recognised accumulation is isolated and large angular blocks of fine-grained aggregates, interpreted as residual remnants of deposits of the previous sequence. Aggradational periods are characterised by a near- continuous accumulations responsible for the sequence building. Differences in the aeolian sediment budget to the area and the rising rate of water table control the related facies types, and allow to discriminateearly and late aggradational sub-periods. Early aggradational sub-periods form under conditions of relatively fast rising water tables associated with moderate aeolian sediment budget, thus resulting in the development of extended wet interduneslaterally associated with aeolian dunes and dry interdunes. During late aggradational sub-periods, the depositional surface outdistanced the water table, and aeolian dunes and dry interdunes tend to predominate. This sub-period is also characterised by an upward tendency to stabilisation, evidenced by the common occurrence of palaeosols in upper levels. Although the preserved thickness of each aeolian sequence is closely related to the average subsidence rate, the internal facies evolution suggests an overall climatic control for their origin.
Lingual development of dysplastic and neoplastic lesions in laboratory animals
Experimental models play an important role in biomedical
sciences in elucidating the pathogenesis of different
disorders that affect living organisms, including humans,
and are also useful for: studying the molecular basis involved
in any disease, in development of diagnostic markers
and in evaluating the efficacy and safety of different
treatment options, including potential drug therapies.
There are general factors and those that are specific to
the oral environment, leading to the development and
progression of neoplastic lesions of the oral cavity, accordingly,
make this project whose main objective is to
develop an experimental model of oral cancer in rats.
Materials and methods: we used 4-(4-nitroquinoline-
1-oxide) to induce tumors in the oral mucosa in rats
according to previously established protocols.
Results: The first clinically suspicious lesions developed at
3 months into the experiment, the tissue was removed
and fixed samples, processed and examined by light microscopy.
The samples showed patterns consistent with
intraepithelial dysplasia and squamous cell carcinoma. It
hopes to develop an experimental model as a basis for
further study of basic and clinical application.Fil: Zavala, Walther David.

Trace fossils on shelly substrate. An example from the Miocene of Patagonia, Argentina
Bioerosion is a common process in lithified substrates. Nevertheless, organic shelly substrates can be used by dwelling organisms as temporary hard substrates. This study introduces an example from the Miocene of Patagonia (Río Negro Formation), cropping out at sea cliffs. The Río Negro Formation includes three members, the middle member being a shallow marine level that represents a complete transgressive - regressive cycle. The upper portion of the trangressive interval commonly includes pavements of oysters (Ostrea patagonica), which show many bioerosive structures. The traces have been assigned to the ichnogenera Gastrochaenolites and Entobia. Maeandropolydora isp. appears in a smaller proportion. The assemblage belongs to the Entobia Ichnofacies.Fil: Farinati, Ester Amanda. Universidad Nacional del Sur; ArgentinaFil: Zavala, Carlos Alberto. Technological effects and scientific knowledge
In this paper we examine aspects of the ontological and cognitive role of technology in science. We explore the fact that technology is capable of producing phenomena whose nature is unclear, it is not obvious whether the products obtained in the experiments are newly discovered natural manifestations or if it's an artificial effect created in the world by a particular technology (Hacking). We name the artificial effects 'technological effects'. Technological effects are objective, observable, highly predictable and reproducible phenomena. The proposal is that science incorporates them as natural phenomena, both, to prove the existence of theoretical entities, and to support novel scientific theories. In this paper we assess both cases
racionalidad. (Habermas, J. 1992)
