Lean Supply Chain Management: Insights from bibliometric analysis and literature review

    Get PDF
The covid-19 pandemic has impacted many countries and with it arose a growing concern of organizations about the vulnerability and low resilience of global supply chains. The incorporation of lean manufacturing in the supply chains enables the systematic reduction of activities that do not add value in an organization and within a chain could improve business performance, which can be widely extended between areas. Thus, this paper aims to investigate the advancement of knowledge about the lean supply chain through bibliometric indicators of scientific production and literature review. Among the research results, the number of publications increased over the years (1996-2021), and the countries that published the most on the topic are Brazil (46 documents), Malaysia (42), and the United States of America (40). The most applied tool was the Value Stream Mapping (VSM). As for future research, there is a need to propose more applied and comprehensive research; study the impact of lean on the supply chain; evaluate the Lean Supply Chain implementation process, and study the relationship between sustainability and Lean Supply Chain Management

Quasi-experimental study which aimed to verify the influence of nursing activities redesign in the reduction of medication errors in three pediatrics wards of a university hospital. Types and frequencies of medication errors identified in a study carried through the wards guided the redesign and exerted the function of dependent variable in the assessment of the intervention. To errs identification 556 documents on 77 children's medical charts were analyzed. In 8550 medication doses analyzed, in 1498 (17,5%) errors were evidenced, an inferior ratio (21,1%) of the control study. Globally the intervention generated small changes in medication errors ratio and type, being effective to reduce dose omission (p< 0.0001), medication suspended by physicians and not registered as suspended for the nurses (p<0.0001) and wrong hour (p= 0,0002).Estudio casi-experimental que verificó influencia de rediseño de actividades de enfermería en la reducción de errores de medicación en tres unidades de pediatría de un hospital universitario. BACKGROUND: According to Braak staging of Parkinson's disease (PD), detection of autonomic dysfunction would help with early diagnosis of PD. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether the autonomic nervous system is involved in the early stage of PD, we evaluated cardiovascular and sudomotor function in early untreated PD patients. METHODS: Orthostatic blood pressure regulation, heart rate variability, skin vasomotor function, and palmar sympathetic sweat responses were examined in 50 early untreated PD patients and 20 healthy control subjects. RESULTS: The mean decrease in systolic blood pressure during head-up tilt in PD patients was mildly but significantly larger than in controls (p = 0.0001). There were no differences between the 2 groups in heart rate variability, with analysis of low frequency (LF; mediated by baroreflex feedback), and high frequency (HF; mainly reflecting parasympathetic vagal) modulation. However, LF/HF, an index of sympatho-parasympathetic balance, was lower in the PD group than in controls (p = 0.02). Amplitudes of palmar sweat responses to deep inspiration (p = 0.004), mental arithmetic (p = 0.01), and exercise (p = 0.01) in PD patients were lower than in controls, with negative correlations with motor severity. Amplitudes of palmar skin vasomotor reflexes in PD patients did not differ from controls. CONCLUSIONS: Our study indicates impairment of sympathetic cardiovascular and sudomotor function with orthostatic dysregulation of blood pressure control, reduced LF/HF and reduction in palm sweat responses even in early untreated PD patients

Misfolded Mutant SOD1 Directly Inhibits VDAC1 Conductance in a Mouse Model of Inherited ALS

SummaryMutations in superoxide dismutase (SOD1) cause amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurodegenerative disease characterized by loss of motor neurons. With conformation-specific antibodies, we now demonstrate that misfolded mutant SOD1 binds directly to the voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC1), an integral membrane protein imbedded in the outer mitochondrial membrane. This interaction is found on isolated spinal cord mitochondria and can be reconstituted with purified components in vitro. ADP passage through the outer membrane is diminished in spinal mitochondria from mutant SOD1-expressing ALS rats. Direct binding of mutant SOD1 to VDAC1 inhibits conductance of individual channels when reconstituted in a lipid bilayer. Reduction of VDAC1 activity with targeted gene disruption is shown to diminish survival by accelerating onset of fatal paralysis in mice expressing the ALS-causing mutation SOD1G37R. Taken together, our results establish a direct link between misfolded mutant SOD1 and mitochondrial dysfunction in this form of inherited ALS

A series of bis-[1,3,5]triazinyl diazenes and two metal complexes thereof were synthesized and tested as new flame retardants in polypropylene films. It was observed that electron withdrawing triazinyl ring substituents (i.e. Cl and phenyl moieties) improved the thermal stability of diazene compounds, whereas electron donating groups (i.e. methoxy, dimethylamino and ethylthio moieties) had a destabilizing effect. TGA, DTA/DSC, NMR and ATR-FTIR were used for the characterization. Quantum mechanical modeling (Gaussian 09) was also utilized to facilitate the interpretation of the NMR data. Bis-(4,6-dichloro-[1,3,5]triazin-2-yl)-diazene 1 and bis-(4,6-dimethoxy-[1,3,5]triazin-2-yl)-diazene 2 were found to be effective flame retardants in polypropylene films and DIN4102-1 B2 classification was reached already at a loading of 0.5 wt%. Interestingly, the copper complex of 2 showed even higher fire retardant activity than its precursor 2, whereas the corresponding zinc complex exhibited lower flame retardant efficacy than its precursor
