Parity Problem With A Cellular Automaton Solution
The parity of a bit string of length is a global quantity that can be
efficiently compute using a global counter in time. But is it
possible to find the parity using cellular automata with a set of local rule
tables without using any global counter? Here, we report a way to solve this
problem using a number of binary, uniform, parallel and deterministic

Vortex structure in chiral p-wave superconductors
We investigate the vortex structure in chiral p-wave superconductors by the
Bogoliubov-de Gennes theory on a tight-binding model. We calculate the spatial
structure of the pair potential and electronic state around a vortex, including
the anisotropy of the Fermi surface and superconducting gap structure. The
differences of the vortex structure between -wave
and -wave superconductors are clarified in the
vortex lattice state. We also discuss the winding case of the

Decline of Yangtze River water and sediment discharge: Impact from natural and anthropogenic changes
The increasing impact of both climatic change and human activities on global river systems necessitates an increasing need to identify and quantify the various drivers and their impacts on fluvial water and sediment discharge. Here we show that mean Yangtze River water discharge of the first decade after the closing of the Three Gorges Dam (TGD) (2003-2012) was 67 km(3)/yr (7%) lower than that of the previous 50 years (1950-2002), and 126 km(3)/yr less compared to the relatively wet period of pre-TGD decade (1993-2002). Most (60-70%) of the decline can be attributed to decreased precipitation, the remainder resulting from construction of reservoirs, improved water-soil conservation and increased water consumption. Mean sediment flux decreased by 71% between 1950-1968 and the post-TGD decade, about half of which occurred prior to the pre-TGD decade. Approximately 30% of the total decline and 65% of the decline since 2003 can be attributed to the TGD, 5% and 14% of these declines to precipitation change, and the remaining to other dams and soil conservation within the drainage basin. These findings highlight the degree to which changes in riverine water and sediment discharge can be related with multiple environmental and anthropogenic factors

Mass measurements of neutron-deficient Y, Zr, and Nb isotopes and their impact on rp and νp nucleosynthesis processes

For further details please see: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/Using isochronous mass spectrometry at the experimental storage ring CSRe in Lanzhou, the masses of 82Zr and 84Nb were measured for the first time with an uncertainty of ∼10 keV, and the masses of 79Y, 81Zr, and 83Nb were re-determined with a higher precision. The latter are significantly less bound than their literature values. Our new and accurate masses remove the irregularities of the mass surface in this region of the nuclear chart. Our results do not support the predicted island of pronounced low α separation energies for neutron-deficient Mo and Tc isotopes, making the formation of Zr–Nb cycle in the rp-process unlikely. The new proton separation energy of 83Nb was determined to be 490(400) keV smaller than that in the Atomic Mass Evaluation 2012. This partly removes the overproduction of the p-nucleus 84Sr relative to the neutron-deficient molybdenum isotopes in the previous νp-process simulations.Peer reviewe
Temperature enhanced persistent currents and " periodicity"
We predict a non-monotonous temperature dependence of the persistent currents
in a ballistic ring coupled strongly to a stub in the grand canonical as well
as in the canonical case. We also show that such a non-monotonous temperature
dependence can naturally lead to a periodicity of the persistent
currents, where =h/e. There is a crossover temperature , below
which persistent currents increase in amplitude with temperature while they
decrease above this temperature. This is in contrast to persistent currents in
rings being monotonously affected by temperature. is parameter-dependent
but of the order of , where is the level spacing
of the isolated ring. For the grand-canonical case is half of that for

On the low temperature properties and specific anisotropy of pure anisotropically paired superconductors
Dependences of low temperature behavior and anisotropy of various physical
quantities for pure unconventional superconductors upon a particular form of
momentum direction dependence for the superconducting order parameter (within
the framework of the same symmetry type of superconducting pairing) are
considered. A special attention is drawn to the possibility of different
multiplicities of the nodes of the order parameter under their fixed positions
on the Fermi surface, which are governed by symmetry. The problem of an
unambiguous identification of a type of superconducting pairing on the basis of
corresponding experimental results is discussed. Quasiparticle density of
states at low energy for both homogeneous and mixed states, the low temperature
dependences of the specific heat, penetration depth and thermal conductivity,
the I-V curves of SS and NS tunnel junctions at low voltages are examined. A
specific anisotropy of the boundary conditions for unconventional
superconducting order parameter near for the case of specular reflection

Phase separation and ferroelectric ordering in charge frustrated LuFe2O4-x
The transmission electron microscopy observations of the charge ordering (CO)
which governs the electronic polarization in LuFe2O4-x clearly show the
presence of a remarkable phase separation at low temperatures. Two CO ground
states are found to adopt the charge modulations of Q1 = (1/3, 1/3, 0) and Q2 =
(1/3 + y, 1/3 + y, 3/2), respectively. Our structural study demonstrates that
the incommensurately Q2-modulated state is chiefly stable in samples with
relatively lower oxygen contents. Data from theoretical simulations of the
diffraction suggest that both Q1- and Q2-modulated phases have ferroelectric
ordering. The effects of oxygen concentration on the phase separation and
electric polarization in this layered system are discussed.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure
Association between first caesarean delivery and adverse outcomes in subsequent pregnancy: a retrospective cohort study
BACKGROUND:Few studies have explored the association between a previous caesarean section (CS) and adverse perinatal outcomes in a subsequent pregnancy, especially in women who underwent a non-indicated CS in their first delivery. We designed this study to compare the perinatal outcomes of a subsequent pregnancy in women who underwent spontaneous vaginal delivery (SVD) or CS in their first delivery. METHODS:This retrospective cohort study included women who underwent singleton deliveries at the International Peace Maternity and Child Health Hospital from January 2013 to December 2016. Data on the perinatal outcomes of all the women were extracted from the medical records. Multivariate logistic regression was conducted to assessed the association between CS in the first delivery and adverse perinatal outcomes in the subsequent pregnancy. RESULTS:CS delivery in the subsequent pregnancy was more likely for women who underwent CS in their first birth than for women with previous SVD (97.3% versus 13.2%). CS in the first birth was also associated with a significantly increased risk of adverse outcomes in the subsequent pregnancy, especially in women who underwent a non-indicated CS. Adverse perinatal outcomes included pregnancy-induced hypertension [adjusted odds ratio (OR), 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.20, 1.59-3.05], gestational diabetes mellitus (1.82, 1.57-2.11), gestational anaemia (1.27, 1.05-1.55), placenta previa (3.18, 2.15-4.71), placenta accreta (2.75, 1.75-4.31), and polyhydramnios (2.60, 1.57-4.31) in the mother and preterm delivery (1.37, 1.06-1.78), low birth weight (3.78, 2.07-6.90), macrosomia (5.04, 3.95-6.44), and neonatal jaundice (1.72, 1.39-2.14) in the baby. Recent glitches detected in the Crab pulsar
From 2000 to 2010, monitoring of radio emission from the Crab pulsar at
Xinjiang Observatory detected a total of nine glitches. The occurrence of
glitches appears to be a random process as described by previous researches. A
persistent change in pulse frequency and pulse frequency derivative after each
glitch was found. There is no obvious correlation between glitch sizes and the
time since last glitch. For these glitches and
span two orders of magnitude. The pulsar suffered the
largest frequency jump ever seen on MJD 53067.1. The size of the glitch is
6.8 Hz, 3.5 times that of the glitch occured in
1989 glitch, with a very large permanent changes in frequency and pulse
frequency derivative and followed by a decay with time constant 21 days.
The braking index presents significant changes. We attribute this variation to
a varying particle wind strength which may be caused by glitch activities. We
discuss the properties of detected glitches in Crab pulsar and compare them
