Spectral threshold dominance, Brouwer's conjecture and maximality of Laplacian energy

The Laplacian energy of a graph is the sum of the distances of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian matrix of the graph to the graph's average degree. The maximum Laplacian energy over all graphs on nn nodes and mm edges is conjectured to be attained for threshold graphs. We prove the conjecture to hold for graphs with the property that for each kk there is a threshold graph on the same number of nodes and edges whose sum of the kk largest Laplacian eigenvalues exceeds that of the kk largest Laplacian eigenvalues of the graph. We call such graphs spectrally threshold dominated. These graphs include split graphs and cographs and spectral threshold dominance is preserved by disjoint unions and taking complements. We conjecture that all graphs are spectrally threshold dominated. This conjecture turns out to be equivalent to Brouwer's conjecture concerning a bound on the sum of the kk largest Laplacian eigenvalues

Unicyclic Graphs with equal Laplacian Energy

We introduce a new operation on a class of graphs with the property that the Laplacian eigenvalues of the input and output graphs are related. Based on this operation, we obtain a family of order (square root of n) noncospectral unicyclic graphs on n vertices with the same Laplacian energy.Comment: 11 pages, 11 figures, slightly modified version of Theorem 1 when compared with original pape

    Laplacian Distribution and Domination

Let mG(I)m_G(I) denote the number of Laplacian eigenvalues of a graph GG in an interval II, and let γ(G)\gamma(G) denote its domination number. We extend the recent result mG[0,1)γ(G)m_G[0,1) \leq \gamma(G), and show that isolate-free graphs also satisfy γ(G)mG[2,n]\gamma(G) \leq m_G[2,n]. In pursuit of better understanding Laplacian eigenvalue distribution, we find applications for these inequalities. We relate these spectral parameters with the approximability of γ(G)\gamma(G), showing that γ(G)mG[0,1)∉O(logn)\frac{\gamma(G)}{m_G[0,1)} \not\in O(\log n). However, γ(G)mG[2,n](c+1)γ(G)\gamma(G) \leq m_G[2, n] \leq (c + 1) \gamma(G) for cc-cyclic graphs, c1c \geq 1. For trees TT, γ(T)mT[2,n]2γ(G)\gamma(T) \leq m_T[2, n] \leq 2 \gamma(G)

Use of agronomic knowledge as an environmental education tool The internship of completion was held at Project Tecnologias Sociais para a Gestão da Água (TSGA), under the guidance and supervision of Professor, Department of Rural Engineering Dr José Jucinei Comin. The project is coordinated by Professor, Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at UFSC, Paul Belli Filho and sponsored by Petrobras Socioambiental Program. The objective of this internship was to develop and implement actions within environmental education for elementary school students. Because it is a broad and complex subject, environmental education presents interdisciplinary in its actions, the participation of professionals from various areas, including professional agronomy scientific knowledge is essential. The activities performed on stage comprised the integration of agronomic knowledge as an environmental education tool for elementary school students from the municipalities of Biguaçu and Braço do Norte, both in the state of Santa Catarina. Among the activities are conducting a field day over the management and appropriate use of pig slurry in agriculture and reclamation, where he attended elementary school students and farmers in the municipality of Braço do Norte. The other two environmental education activities were held at the Escola Municipal Donato Alipio de Campos, in Biguaçu - SC, where he worked managing organic waste produced by the school unit and also conducting a workshop on the recovery of degraded areas occurred where were addressed environmental damage and its impacts on society

This dissertation deals with Juan Rulfo´s book of short stories El llano en llamas (1953) and the novel Pedro Páramo (1955). The point at issue of the writings is the predicament of death which epitomizes all other conflicts. The campesinos of the stories live in the loneliness of the wasteland, whereas the dwellers of Comala meet a common fate under the merciless grasp of Don Pedro. A fresh approach to the writings that lay bare human frustrations brings about a new insight. Entangled in a life steadily threatened by death the characters appeal to christian hope, to no avail. The research focuses on the "living" death of Rulfo´s fiction, first by means of a theo-philosophical approach. Then comes death in art, specifically in literature. Lastly we look into death in both Rulfo´s masterpieces, venturing eventually a possible escape from Comala, that is, from the grip of death

A Design For a Segment Based on the Methods of Selected Old Testament Preachers to be Included in a Course in Homiletics

This project attempts to discover some criteria (or characteristics) that can be used in contemporary preaching, based in the Old Testament. So I selected seven Old Testament preachers (prophets) and analyzed seven of their sermons (or messages) or parts thereof. Somehow they cover the history of Israel as a nation starting with Moses down to Haggai. The other five are; Joshua, Solomon, Elijah, Amos and Jeremiah. Once I discovered the contents of their messages, I tried to relate them to contemporary preaching. I believe it is useful and contains helpful materials for the use of ministers and preachers. Also, it is intended to be used as a segment of a course in Homiletics. This study is divided in three main parts as follows: Part I deals with a comparative analysis of the seven selected sermons to discover the homiletical characteristics that they might provide. Part II suggests a segment of a Syllabus for a Course in Homiletics. It contains a brief discussion of the pedagogical methodology to be used, a Syllabus, one full lecture and two sermons. Part III presents some conclusions and personal reflections on how this project helped me to improve my ministry in preaching. One interesting feature in this study is that all seven sermons have the covenant between God and Israel, at Sinai, as background. It undergirds all the messages of the prophets. I hope that this study will help preachers to become more familiar with Old Testament preaching, and thus not only them, but their listeners as well can benefit from their sermons
