Social networks are becoming increasingly important in our society and Spanish women athletes are present in them. The current literature shows the growing interest of the scientific field in the logics of networks and the representation of sportswomen, although very limited in the case of our county. Therefore, the aim of this article was to analyze the self-representation of three known Spanish women athletes from different sports. For this purpose, a content analysis of their publications on Instagram, was carried out between February 2020 and February 2021. The findings have shown that each sportswoman has a different style of representation, while there are also points in common. The images receiving the most likes in each case did not follow any pattern but in two cases the centrality of the body was clear. It was concluded, after analysis and discussion, that all three maintain a socially accepted image of femininity, in which in each case there are elements, including advertising, that contribute to this heteronormative ideal, typical of an androcentric society. In addition, only in one case was an alternative self-representation to the traditional one detected in the media. Further study of the relationship between social networks and sport is a theme of future work with great potential, as more and more athletes, fans and the media are making use of them.

Objectives: Sporadic Alzheimer´s disease (sAD) is the most prevalent neurodegenerative pathology with no effective therapy until date. This disease prompts hippocampal degeneration, which in turn affects multiple cognitive domains and daily-life activities. In this study, we hypothesized that long-lasting therapy with human mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) would have a restorative effect on the behavioral alterations and cognitive decline characteristic of sAD, as they have shown neurogenic and immunomodulatory activities. Methods: We treated intracerebroventricular streptozotocin-injected (icv-STZ) rats, a commonly used animal model of sAD, with 1 × 106 MSC in a tail vein (24 days post-icv-SZT), every 18 days. At the end of the study (3 months post-icv-STZ), we evaluated their cognitive function together with morphological and biochemical changes in the hippocampus. Results: We observed cognitive deficits, microgliosis, and decreased on presynaptic proteins (SYT1, SYT2, and SYP) and GABAergic neuron marker (GAD65) in the brains of icv-STZ rats. Interestingly, MSC therapy significantly improved its spatial memory and decreased the anxiety, ameliorated microglial activation, and enhanced SYT1, SYP, and GAD65 levels. Additionally, we found significant negative correlation between the hippocampal reactive microglia with the expression of SYT1, SYT2, SYP, and GAD67 proteins, suggesting the modulation of synaptic transmission by glial cells. Conclusion: These findings, showing that intravenous injection of human MSCs restores behavioral and hippocampal alterations in experimental sAD, support the potential use of MSC therapy for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.Fil: Zappa Villar, María Florencia. According to recent market studies of the North American company Allied Market Research, the field of photonic sensors is an emerging strategic field for the following years and it is expected to garner $18 billion by 2021. The integration of micro and nanofabrication technologies in the field of sensors has allowed the development of new technological concepts such as lab-on-a-chip, which have achieved extraordinary advances in terms of detection and applicability, for example in the field of biosensors. This continuous development has allowed that equipment consisting of many complex devices that occupied a whole room a few years ago, at present it is possible to handle them in the palm of the hand; that formerly long duration processes are carried out in a matter of milliseconds and that a technology previously dedicated solely to military or scientific uses is available to the vast majority of consumers. The adequate combination of micro and nanostructured coatings with optical fiber sensors has permitted us to develop novel sensing technologies, such as the first experimental demonstration of lossy mode resonances (LMRs) for sensing applications, with more than one hundred citations and related publications in high rank journals and top conferences. In fact, fiber optic LMR-based devices have been proven as devices with one of the highest sensitivity for refractometric applications. Refractive index sensitivity is an indirect and simple indicator of how sensitive the device is to chemical and biological species, topic where this proposal is focused. Consequently, the utilization of these devices for chemical and biosensing applications is a clear opportunity that could open novel and interesting research lines and applications as well as simplify current analytical methodologies. As a result, on the basis of our previous experience with LMR based sensors to attain very high sensitivities, the objective of this paper is presenting the route for the development of label-free optical waveguide sensing platform based on LMRs that enable to explore the limits of this technology for bio-chemosensing applications

Cancer maintenance, metastatic dissemination and drug resistance are sustained by cancer stem cells (CSCs). Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the breast cancer subtype with the highest number of CSCs and the poorest prognosis. Here, we aimed to identify potential drugs targeting CSCs to be further employed in combination with standard chemotherapy in TNBC treatment. The anti-CSC efficacy of up to 17 small drugs was tested in TNBC cell lines using cell viability assays on differentiated cancer cells and CSCs. Then, the effect of 2 selected drugs (8-quinolinol -8Q- and niclosamide -NCS-) in the cancer stemness features were evaluated using mammosphere growth, cell invasion, migration and anchorage-independent growth assays. Changes in the expression of stemness genes after 8Q or NCS treatment were also evaluated. Moreover, the potential synergism of 8Q and NCS with PTX on CSC proliferation and stemness-related signaling pathways was evaluated using TNBC cell lines, CSC-reporter sublines, and CSC-enriched mammospheres. Finally, the efficacy of NCS in combination with PTX was analyzed in vivo using an orthotopic mouse model of MDA-MB-231 cells. Among all tested drug candidates, 8Q and NCS showed remarkable specific anti-CSC activity in terms of CSC viability, migration, invasion and anchorage independent growth reduction in vitro. Moreover, specific 8Q/PTX and NCS/PTX ratios at which both drugs displayed a synergistic effect in different TNBC cell lines were identified. The sole use of PTX increased the relative presence of CSCs in TNBC cells, whereas the combination of 8Q and NCS counteracted this pro-CSC activity of PTX while significantly reducing cell viability. In vivo, the combination of NCS with PTX reduced tumor growth and limited the dissemination of the disease by reducing circulating tumor cells and the incidence of lung metastasis. The combination of 8Q and NCS with PTX at established ratios inhibits both the proliferation of differentiated cancer cells and the viability of CSCs, paving the way for more efficacious TNBC treatments

Lossy-mode resonance (LMR)–based optical sensing technology has emerged in the last two decades as a nanotechnological platform with very interesting and promising properties. LMR complements the metallic materials typically used in surface plasmon resonance (SPR)–based sensors, with metallic oxides and polymers. In addition, it enables one to tune the position of the resonance in the optical spectrum, to excite the resonance with both transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) polarized light, and to generate multiple resonances. The domains of application are numerous: as sensors for detection of refractive indices voltage, pH, humidity, chemical species, and antigens, as well as biosensors. This review will discuss the bases of this relatively new technology and will show the main contributions that have permitted the optimization of its performance to the point that the question arises as to whether LMR–based optical sensors could become the sensing platform of the near future

At present it is observed that the sale of new heavy transport vehicles, in particular trucks and tractors, in January and February 2021 had a growth of 22.7% compared to the same period of 2020, in a situation in which various related activities transportation of goods, supplies and merchandise, continued to operate with relative normality despite the pandemic. On the other hand, the commercialization of light vehicle units observed an annual contraction of 17% as a consequence of consumer behavior in the face of the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, new restriction measures dictated by the Government to contain the advance of the second wave, and a slowly recovering labor market. Inversiones Estrella S.A.C. is a company that seeks to enter the sector, for this it has partners with the necessary solvency capacity to start the business of operating an EDS located in the Panamericana Sur, since the sector has been analyzed. This project proposes the creation of a differentiated value proposition focused on: low prices and customer service. The initial investment is S / 440,695, (100% capital stock), determining a COK of 11.9%, so after the economic-financial evaluation a positive NPV is obtained, an IRR greater than the COK and a recovery period within the Analysis period. Therefore, it is concluded that the project is viable, so its implementation is recommended.Trabajo de investigació

CAST constraints on the axion-electron coupling

In non-hadronic axion models, which have a tree-level axion-electron interaction, the Sun produces a strong axion flux by bremsstrahlung, Compton scattering, and axiorecombination, the "BCA processes." Based on a new calculation of this flux, including for the first time axio-recombination, we derive limits on the axion-electron Yukawa coupling gae and axion-photon interaction strength ga using the CAST phase-I data (vacuum phase). For ma <~ 10 meV/c2 we find ga gae < 8.1 × 10−23 GeV−1 at 95% CL. We stress that a next-generation axion helioscope such as the proposed IAXO could push this sensitivity into a range beyond stellar energy-loss limits and test the hypothesis that white-dwarf cooling is dominated by axion emission

Effectiveness and safety of integrase strand transfer inhibitors in Spain: a prospective real-world study

IntroductionSecond-generation integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) are preferred treatment options worldwide, and dolutegravir (DTG) is the treatment of choice in resource-limited settings. Nevertheless, in some resource-limited settings, these drugs are not always available. An analysis of the experience with the use of INSTIs in unselected adults living with HIV may be of help to make therapeutic decisions when second-generation INSTIs are not available. This study aimed to evaluate the real-life effectiveness and safety of dolutegravir (DTG), elvitegravir/cobicistat (EVG/c), and raltegravir (RAL) in a large Spanish cohort of HIV-1-infected patients. MethodsReal-world study of adults living with HIV who initiated integrase INSTIs DTG, EVG/c, and RAL-based regimens in three settings (ART-naive patients, ART-switching, and ART-salvage patients). The primary endpoint was the median time to treatment discontinuation after INSTI-based regimen initiation. Proportion of patients experiencing virological failure (VF) (defined as two consecutive viral loads (VL) & GE;200 copies/mL at 24 weeks or as a single determination of VL & GE;1,000 copies/mL while receiving DTG, EVG/c or RAL, and at least 3 months after INSTI initiation) and time to VF were also evaluated. ResultsVirological effectiveness of EVG/c- and RAL-based regimens was similar to that of DTG when given as first-line and salvage therapy. Treatment switching for reasons other than virological failure was more frequent in subjects receiving EVG/c and, in particular, RAL. Naive patients with CD4+ nadir <100 cells/& mu;L were more likely to develop VF, particularly if they initiated RAL or EVG/c. In the ART switching population, initiation of RAL and EVG/c was associated with both VF and INSTI discontinuation. There were no differences in the time to VF and INSTI discontinuation between DTG, EVG/c and RAL. Immunological parameters improved in the three groups and for the three drugs assessed. Safety and tolerability were consistent with expected safety profiles. DiscussionWhereas second-generation INSTIs are preferred treatment options worldwide, and DTG is one of the treatment of choices in resource-limited settings, first-generation INSTIs may still provide high virological and immunological effectiveness when DTG is not available
