Influence of ABO locus on PFA-100 collagen-ADP closure time is not totally dependent on the von willebrand factor. Results of a GWAS on gait-2 project phenotypes
(1) Background: In a previous study, we found that two phenotypes related to platelet reactivity, measured with the PFA-100 system, were highly heritable. The aim of the present study was to identify genetic determinants that influence the variability of these phenotypes: Closure time of collagen-ADP (Col-ADP) and of collagen-epinephrine (Col-Epi). (2) Methods: As part of the GAIT-2 (Genetic Analysis of Idiopathic Thrombophilia (2) Project, 935 individuals from 35 large Spanish families were studied. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) with ≈ 10 M single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) was carried out with Col-ADP and Col-Epi phenotypes. (3) Results: The study yielded significant genetic signals that mapped to the ABO locus. After adjusting both phenotypes for the ABO genotype, these signals disappeared. After adjusting for von Willebrand factor (VWF) or for coagulation factor VIII (FVIII), the significant signals disappeared totally for Col-Epi phenotype but only partially for Col-ADP phenotype. (4) Conclusion: Our results suggest that the ABO locus exerts the main genetic influence on PFA-100 phenotypes. However, while the effect of the ABO locus on Col-Epi phenotype is mediated through VWF and/or FVIII, the effect of the ABO locus on Col-ADP phenotype is partly produced through VWF and/or FVIII, and partly through other mechanisms
Diffraction effects and inelastic electron transport in angle-resolved microscopic imaging applications
We analyze the signal formation process for scanning electron microscopic imaging applications on crystalline specimens. In accordance with previous investigations, we find nontrivial effects of incident beam diffraction on the backscattered electron distribution in energy and momentum. Specifically, incident beam diffraction causes angular changes of the backscattered electron distribution which we identify as the dominant mechanism underlying pseudocolor orientation imaging using multiple, angle-resolving detectors. Consequently, diffraction effects of the incident beam and their impact on the subsequent coherent and incoherent electron transport need to be taken into account for an in-depth theoretical modeling of the energy and momentum distribution of electrons backscattered from crystalline sample regions. Our findings have implications for the level of theoretical detail that can be necessary for the interpretation of complex imaging modalities such as electron channeling contrast imaging (ECCI) of defects in crystals. If the solid angle of detection is limited to specific regions of the backscattered electron momentum distribution, the image contrast that is observed in ECCI and similar applications can be strongly affected by incident beam diffraction and topographic effects from the sample surface. As an application, we demonstrate characteristic changes in the resulting images if different properties of the backscattered electron distribution are used for the analysis of a GaN thin film sample containing dislocations
The all-sky GEOS RR Lyr survey with the TAROT telescopes. Analysis of the Blazhko effect
We used the GEOS database to study the Blazhko effect of galactic RRab stars.
The database is continuously enriched by maxima supplied by amateur astronomers
and by a dedicated survey by means of the two TAROT robotic telescopes. The
same value of the Blazhko period is observed at different values of the
pulsation periods and different values of the Blazhko periods are observed at
the same value of the pulsation period. There are clues suggesting that the
Blazhko effect is changing from one cycle to the next. The secular changes in
the pulsation and Blazhko periods of Z CVn are anticorrelated. The diagrams of
magnitudes against phases of the maxima clearly show that the light curves of
Blazhko variables can be explained as modulated signals, both in amplitude and
in frequency. The closed curves describing the Blazhko cycles in such diagrams
have different shapes, reflecting the phase shifts between the epochs of the
brightest maximum and the maximum O-C. Our sample shows that both clockwise and
anticlockwise directions are possible for similar shapes. The improved
observational knowledge of the Blazhko effect, in addition to some
peculiarities of the light curves, have still to be explained by a satisfactory

Leaf economics and plant hydraulics drive leaf : wood area ratios

The Huber value Hv (sapwood area/leaf area ratio) is central to plant water balance and drought responses. However, its coordination with key plant functional traits is poorly understood, which prevents developing trait-based prediction models. Based on theoretical arguments, we hypothesise that global patterns in Hv of terminal woody branches can be predicted from variables related to plant trait spectra, i.e., plant hydraulics and size and leaf economics. Using a global compilation of 1135 species-averaged Hv , we show that Hv varies over 3 orders of magnitude. Higher Hv are seen in short small-leaved low-SLA shrubs with low Ks in arid relative to tall large-leaved high-SLA trees with high Ks in moist environments. All traits depend on climate but climatic correlations are stronger for explanatory traits than Hv . Negative isometry is found between Hv and Ks , suggesting a compensation to maintain hydraulic supply to leaves across species. This work identifies the major global drivers of branch sapwood/leaf area ratios. Angulation in different planes of the neck of abdominal aortic aneurysms may be considered a limiting factor in the implantation of different prostheses in the treatment of this pathology. It is necessary to make an assessment of the angles in different planes in routine studies prior to the planning of the procedures and especially by AngioTAC. The study evaluated the measurement of 507 patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms and treated endovascular procedures and of whom the complete information was available at the level of neck angulations. Study of angulations of visceral abdominals arteries in their abdominal aorta emergency
Recently, fenestrated, branched and stent grafts have been developed in order to treat endovascular aneurysmal pathology at the level of the aorta in the emergence of the visceral arteries. For the implantation of stents, it is necessary to have a precise planimetry of the origin and orientation of the visceral branches in order firstly to perform the correct manufacture of the endoprosthesis and secondly the placement with precision of the same. The knowledge of the emergency of the vessels of the aortic wall and its orientation knowing the angle of emergency. A series of water-bridged dinickel complexes of the general formula [Ni<sub>2</sub>(μ<sub>2</sub>-OH<sub>2</sub>)(μ2-

and structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. The magnetic properties
have been probed by magnetometry and EPR spectroscopy, and detailed measurements
show that the axial zero-field splitting, D, of the nickel(ii) ions is on the same order as
the isotropic exchange interaction, J, between the nickel sites. The isotropic exchange
interaction can be related to the angle between the nickel centers and the bridging
water molecule, while the magnitude of D can be related to the coordination sphere at
the nickel sites
