    Comparative analysis of changes in leaf area index in different wheat genotypes exposed to high temperature stress by late sown condition

    High temperature stress during grain-filling period is one of the major environmental constraints limiting the grain yield of wheat in India. Crop growth response and relative performance of yield components of 12 wheat (Triticum aestivum) genotypes were studied in two date of sowing in crop research center (Pantnagar) to identify the causes of yield reduction in wheat particularly Leaf Area Index and its impact in yield loss and other tolerance mech-anism and comparative study of LAI and yield attributes to identify the genotype for high temperature tolerance in late sown condition. The higher temperature enhanced plant growth, flowering, and maturation which ultimately effects the crop performance in case of yield (Leaf Area Index, grain weight/spike and test weight were drastically reduced in time under high temperature. Out of 12 diverse genotypes namely HI 1539, DBW 14, HW 5021, HS 240, PBW-574, Raj 4101, Lok 54, Raj 3765, WH 1021, K-0-307, HW 2045 and HI1544,four were (Lok54, Raj3765, HI1539 and HI1544 ) were characterized as high temperature tolerant based on their relative performance in leaf area index, grain yield and heat susceptibility index. Leaf area Index studies in context to heat stress in wheat is least studied area in heat tolerance research in wheat (Triticum aestivum), in the present study LAI is used as a screening tool for heat tolerance and effect of LAI in wheat yield

    Fuzzy Association Rule Mining based Model to Predict Students’ Performance

    Get PDF
    The major intention of higher education institutions is to supply quality education to its students. One approach to get maximum level of quality in higher education system is by discovering knowledge for prediction regarding the internal assessment and end semester examination. The projected work intends to approach this objective by taking the advantage of fuzzy inference technique to classify student scores data according to the level of their performance. In this paper, student’s performance is evaluated using fuzzy association rule mining that describes Prediction of performance of the students at the end of the semester, on the basis of previous database like Attendance, Midsem Marks, Previous semester marks and Previous Academic Records were collected from the student’s previous database, to identify those students which needed individual attention to decrease fail ration and taking suitable action for the next semester examination

    Influence of simultaneous doping of Sb & Pb on phase formation, superconducting and microstructural characteristics of HgBa2Ca2Cu3O8+\delta

    Full text link
    We report systematic studies of structural, microstructural and transport properties of (Hg_0.80 Sb_0.2-x Pb_x)Ba_2 Ca_2 Cu_3O_8+\delta (where x = 0.0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2) compounds. Bulk polycrystalline samples have been prepared by two-step solid-state reaction route at ambient pressure. It has been observed that simultaneous substitution of Sb and Pb at Hg site in oxygen deficient HgO_\delta layer of HgBa2Ca2Cu3O8+\delta cuprate high-Tc superconductor leads to the formation of Hg-1223 as the dominant phase. Microstructural investigations of the as grown samples employing scanning electron microscopy reveal single crystal like large grains embodying spiral like features. Superconducting properties particularly transport current density (Jct) have been found to be sensitive to these microstructural features. As for example (Hg0.80Sb0.05Pb0.15)Ba2Ca2Cu3O8+\delta compound which exhibits single crystal like large grains (~ 50 micrometer) and appears to result through spiral growth mechanism, shows highest Jct (~ 1.85 x 103 A/cm2) at 77K. A possible mechanism for the generation of spiral like features and correlation between microstructural features and superconducting properties have been put forward.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figures. Cassava haplotype map highlights fixation of deleterious mutations during clonal propagation

    Article purchased; Published online: 17 April 2017Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is an important staple food crop in Africa and South America; however, ubiquitous deleterious mutations may severely decrease its fitness. To evaluate these deleterious mutations, we constructed a cassava haplotype map through deep sequencing 241 diverse accessions and identified >28 million segregating variants. We found that (i) although domestication has modified starch and ketone metabolism pathways to allow for human consumption, the concomitant bottleneck and clonal propagation have resulted in a large proportion of fixed deleterious amino acid changes, increased the number of deleterious alleles by 26%, and shifted the mutational burden toward common variants; (ii) deleterious mutations have been ineffectively purged, owing to limited recombination in the cassava genome; (iii) recent breeding efforts have maintained yield by masking the most damaging recessive mutations in the heterozygous state but have been unable to purge the mutation burden; such purging should be a key target in future cassava breeding

    Mask formulas for cograssmannian Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials

    Full text link
    We give two contructions of sets of masks on cograssmannian permutations that can be used in Deodhar's formula for Kazhdan-Lusztig basis elements of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra. The constructions are respectively based on a formula of Lascoux-Schutzenberger and its geometric interpretation by Zelevinsky. The first construction relies on a basis of the Hecke algebra constructed from principal lower order ideals in Bruhat order and a translation of this basis into sets of masks. The second construction relies on an interpretation of masks as cells of the Bott-Samelson resolution. These constructions give distinct answers to a question of Deodhar.Comment: 43 page

    Automated segmentation of the atrial region and fossa ovalis towards computer-aided planning of inter-atrial wall interventions

    Get PDF
    Image-fusion strategies have been applied to improve inter-atrial septal (IAS) wall minimally-invasive interventions. Hereto, several landmarks are initially identified on richly-detailed datasets throughout the planning stage and then combined with intra-operative images, enhancing the relevant structures and easing the procedure. Nevertheless, such planning is still performed manually, which is time-consuming and not necessarily reproducible, hampering its regular application. In this article, we present a novel automatic strategy to segment the atrial region (left/right atrium and aortic tract) and the fossa ovalis (FO).Fundacão para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), in Portugal, and the European Social Found, European Union, for funding support through the “Programa Operacional Capital Humano” (POCH) in the scope of the PhD grants SFRH/BD/95438/2013 (P. Study of Cabibbo Suppressed Decays of the Ds Charmed-Strange Meson involving a KS

    Full text link
    We study the decay of Ds meson into final states involving a Ks and report the discovery of Cabibbo suppressed decay modes Ds -> Kspi-pi+pi+ (179 +/- 36 events) and Ds -> Kspi+ (113 +/-26 events). The branching ratios for the new modes are Gamma(Ds -> Kspi-pi+pi+)/Gamma(Ds -> KsK-pi+pi+) = 0.18 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.05 and Gamma(Ds -> Kspi+)/Gamma(Ds -> KsK+) = 0.104 +/- 0.024 +/- 0.013.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
