Introduction: The Jujuy Demonstration Project (JDP) was a project carried out over the course of 4 years (2011-2014) to develop, implement and evaluate the programmatic components of a Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)-based screening programme in Argentina. The aim of this paper is to present a qualitative evaluation of the context and implementation process of the JDP. Methods: We used an adaptation of the Health System Framework (HSF), which includes interconnected contextual factors that are considered key drivers for successful health interventions. We reviewed secondary documents, which included scientific reports, norms and regulations, information sheets, power point presentations and manuals and recommendations published by the National Programme for Cervical Cancer Prevention. We also carried out semi-structured interviews with key informants to explore their views about technology acceptability. Results: Key components of the JDP implementation process were: a high level of political support and consensus among stakeholders, the demonstrated effectiveness of the technology and its acceptability by health authorities and providers, the funding of tests and diagnosis/treatment services, the implementation of an information system for monitoring and evaluation and the reorganisation of the network of screening, diagnosis and treatment services. Conclusion: This analysis examines the policy context in which the JDP was implemented and the system components that were key for the demonstrated effectiveness of the strategy. Such analyses provide useful insights into core components of HPV testing implementation that are needed to guarantee its potential effectiveness to reduce cervical cancer incidence and mortality.Fil: Arrossi, Silvina. Comunicación presentada en la 18th Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists, celebrada en Helsinki del 29 de agosto al 1 de septiembre de 2012.In late 2007 the then called Ministry of Education and Science funded the Research Program on Technologies for the Conservation and Valorization of Cultural Heritage (TCP) within the CONSOLIDER -INGENIO 2010 call. In it 16 research groups take part, from the CSIC and 4 Spanish universities, articulating traditionally distant disciplines directly involved with Cultural Heritage. The base for working is the culture of cooperation and collaboration between groups in an interdisciplinary way. TCP was the only funded proposal of the call that focused on the study of Cultural Heritage. One of the main objectives of the project included training, so after valorizing different options, it was finally decided to opt for a CSIC High Specialization Course model. The aim was to create a postgraduate training strategy for preparing, in a truly specialized way, professionals with technical or scientific profile, who can become the best professionals working on cultural heritage. This course was an alternative possibility, different from formal university education. It also benefited from greater freedom in designing the course, choosing the participating teachers, and establishing the relationship between practical and theoretical aspects. This goal lies at the very foundations of the Consolider call and more specifically, also within TCP: strengthen and highlight the link between the interdisciplinary research, the professional practice and the social visibility of research through training, dissemination and knowledge transfer.Peer Reviewe

Bromide counterion as a spectroscopic sensor at the interface of cetyltrimethylammonium micelles

    Get PDF
The strong UV absorption of the bromide in aqueous solution undergoes a remarkable red shift of more than 10 nm induced by the addition of the salts that constitute a saline buffer. The maximum absorption wavelength of the bromide is displaced from approximately 194 nm in ultrapure water to wavelengths above 200 nm, depending on the composition of the solution. The bromide spectrum as counterion of the cetyltrimethylammonium in the surfactant CTAB also shows sensitivity to the aggregation behavior of the tensioactive, being able to detect intermolecular interactions even at concentrations lower than the critical micelle concentration. And, when the micelles are assembled, the bromide absorption detects the interfacial rearrangements caused by the incorporation of ions. To know more about those interfacial features, the pyrene molecular probe was used, taking advantage of the extensive knowledge of its spectroscopy. Pyrene verifies the existence of changes in the interfacial organization which confirm that the sensitivity of the bromide spectrum is based on the ability of the ion to detect its microenvironment, and therefore reaffirms that its absorption spectrumcan be used as a local sensor. The presentwork encourages the use of bromide as a sensor ion in the UV region between 190 and 210 nm, which would avoid the introduction of external molecular probes that could disturb the system.Centro de Investigación de Proteínas Vegetale

    Get PDF
In this study, a new composite material conception based on polypropylene (PP) and wood particles obtained from agricultural waste was investigated. Specifically, stalks and leafs of chili plants of the region of New Mexico, Texas, USA were used as a plant-based reinforcing material. For this, a design ofexperiments (DOE) is proposed considering different percentages of PP, wood, fire retardant, coupling agent and UV stabilizer, different mesh sizes are also considered. Samples were obtained using an extrusion molding machine. A statistical analysis is proposed to obtain the optimal percentages of the components considered in the fabrication of the samples in order to enhance the mechanical and morphologic properties of this new composite. Results show that the yield stress, breaking stress and ultimate tensile stress can be maximized with a proportion of 3 to 1 (63,75% PP and 21,25% wood fiber) of PP and wood fiber

Objective: We systematically assessed the efficacy of Concizumab in patients with Hemophilia A/B. Material and Methods: Five databases were searched up to May 2022 for randomized controlled trials in adults with severe Hemophilia A/B with or without inhibitors treated with Concizumab compared to standard care or placebo. Outcomes were bleeding episodes (ABRs), D - dimer, prothrombin fragment 1.2, fibrinogen levels, prothrombin time, nasopharyngitis, and upper respiratory tract infection. Results: Two RCTs (n = 86) were included. In both studies, decreased bleeding rates were observed at high levels of concizumab. Furthermore, both studies support the use of concizumab as a safe and well-tolerated prophylactic therapy administered subcutaneously in all haemophilia patients. Placebo was the comparator in one RCT, while Eptacog alfa (activated) rFVIIIa was the comparator in the other RCT. The dosing of concizumab in the RCTs ranged from 0.15, 0.20, 0.25, 0.5 and 0.8, mg/kg with follow-up times between 42 days and 24 weeks. Conclusion: The efficacy and safety of Concizumab for the treatment of patients with Hemophilia A/B cannot be estimated or recommended due to the weak evidence and low number of relevant studies supporting its use.

The present status of our knowledge of the distances to the Magellanic Clouds is evaluated from a post-Hipparcos perspective. After a brief summary of the effects of structure, reddening, age and metallicity, the primary distance indicators for the Large Magellanic Cloud are reviewed: The SN 1987A ring, Cepheids, RR Lyraes, Mira variables, and Eclipsing Binaries. Distances derived via these methods are weighted and combined to produce final "best" estimates for the Magellanic Clouds distance moduli.Comment: Invited review article to appear in ``Post Hipparcos Cosmic Candles'', F.
