    Image quality in double- and triple-intensity ghost imaging with classical partially polarized light

    Classical ghost imaging is a correlation-imaging technique in which the image of the object is found through intensity correlations of light. We analyze three different quality parameters, namely the visibility, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), to assess the performance of double- and triple-intensity correlation-imaging setups. The source is a random partially polarized beam of light obeying Gaussian statistics and the image quality is evaluated as a function of the degree of polarization (DoP). We show that the visibility improves when the DoP and the order of imaging increase, while the SNR behaves oppositely. The CNR is for the most part independent of DoP and the imaging order.     Strain-gradient-induced magnetic anisotropy in straight-stripe mixed-phase bismuth ferrites: An insight into flexomagnetic phenomenon

    Implementation of antiferromagnetic compounds as active elements in spintronics has been hindered by their insensitive nature against external perturbations which causes difficulties in switching among different antiferromagnetic spin configurations. Electrically-controllable strain gradient can become a key parameter to tune the antiferromagnetic states of multiferroic materials. We have discovered a correlation between an electrically-written straight-stripe mixed-phase boundary and an in-plane antiferromagnetic spin axis in highly-elongated La-5%-doped BiFeO3_{3} thin films by performing polarization-dependent photoemission electron microscopy in conjunction with cluster model calculations. Model Hamiltonian calculation for the single-ion anisotropy including the spin-orbit interaction has been performed to figure out the physical origin of the link between the strain gradient present in the mixed phase area and its antiferromagnetic spin axis. Our findings enable estimation of the strain-gradient-induced magnetic anisotropy energy per Fe ion at around 5×\times1012^{-12} eV m, and provide a new pathway towards an electric-field-induced 90^{\circ} rotation of antiferromagnetic spin axis at room temperature by flexomagnetism.Comment: 32 pages, 5 figure

Se hace referencia al Programa de los Pueblos Mágicos en donde se incluyen información de los 10 Pueblos Mágicos integrados en el año 2018 y las oportunidades que promete la Memoria Documental de los Pueblos Mágicos. Para finalizar se habla de el Plan Estatal de Desarrollo y los objetivos, estrategias y líneas de acción que este Plan tiene, para el punto 4 que habla del Impulso al Turismo, y del Plan Municipal de Desarrollo, el cual está vigente del 2018 al 2021 y se hace una breve conclusión del trabajo

    The main intention of this article focuses on elevating the construction in the specialized literature of the Central American Dry Corridor (CSC), as an ecoclimatic, spatial imaginary where international organizations and agencies that dedicate efforts to explain mass migration from Central America have built a geographical spectrum as an imagined space of convergence to consider climate change as the main cause of Central American migration. Although in the texts found a series of discursive tensors are observed to correlate these two variables, this serves as narrative food to enrich the imaginary sense through the discussion of phenomenological implications. Under the hermeneutic retina, an analysis of the discourse was carried out, which allowed to notice the existence through the search for the semantic sense in the texts that allude under performative senses to an imaginary of the space-ecoclimatic order; Basically, the document aims to weave three central notions of the CSC as imaginary: the configurative image of a spatio-ecoclimatic imaginary, an imaginary of the future through the description of the present and an imaginary that links climate change in the region as the main initiator of human mobility.La intención principal de este artículo se centra en plantear la construcción en la literatura especializada del Corredor Seco Centroamericano (CSC), como un imaginario ecoclimático, espacial donde los organismos y agencias internacionales que dedican esfuerzos para explicar la migración masiva de Centroamérica han construido a manera de espectro geográfico la noción de un espacio imaginado de convergencia para considerar el cambio ambiental como causante principal del flujo migratorio centroamericano. La metodología utilizada se derivó de la hermenéutica y el análisis de discurso teniendo como insumos los documentos que planteaban la posibilidad de una relación entre migración y cambio climático (CC); esto llevo a construir una categoría central, que, a manera de tensores discursivos, sirven como alimento para enriquecer el sentido imaginario del CSC. La existencia de un sentido semántico que aluden con sentidos performativos a un imaginario del orden espacial-ecoclimático; básicamente el documento pretende hilvanar tres nociones centrales del CSC como imaginario: la imagen configurante de un imaginario espacial-ecoclimático, un imaginario del futuro a través de la descripción del presente y un imaginario que se anida al cambio climático de la región como principal iniciador de la movilidad humana

    The Psychosocial Health of Shan Children in Northwest Thailand

    We administered the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) to 51 Shan refugee children from Burma who are living in northern Thailand, and collected life histories from 11 of their families. Of the sample, 63% of the children were stateless, and none were Thai citizens. About 30% of the children had normal peer relationship subscores—a number well below Thai norms after correcting for multiple comparisons (p < .001). However, their overall functioning was not different from the Thai population as a whole

    Arbitrary-order lensless ghost imaging with thermal light

    Arbitrary Nth-order (N2N\geq2) lensless ghost imaging with thermal light has been performed for the first time by only recording the intensities in two optical paths. It is shown that the image visibility can be dramatically enhanced as the order N increases.     Effect of atrioventricular optimization on circulating N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide following cardiac resynchronization therapy.

    AIMS: Following CRT, atrioventricular (AV) optimization is not routinely practised. To evaluate its clinical utility, we examined the effect of AV delay optimization on the prognostic biomarker NT-proBNP. METHODS AND RESULTS: We prospectively studied 72 patients (mean age 73 ± 12.5 years, 70.8% male, 55.6% ischaemic) undergoing iterative AV optimization. Patients were divided into those whose nominal setting appeared ideal and not changed (Group 1, n = 22) and those whose AV delay was optimized (Group 2, n = 50). All patients underwent NT-proBNP assessment prior to CRT, and pre- and a median 5 days post-optimization. Compared with Group 1, NT-proBNP fell significantly in Group 2 patients (median 474 pg/mL) following optimization (P = 0.00001). A significant change in filling pattern (defined as a change in AV delay >50 ms) was required in 30% of patients, and it was this subgroup that derived the greater reduction in NT-proBNP levels [-1407 pg/mL, interquartile range (IQR) -3042 to -346 pg/mL] compared with those requiring <50 ms AV delay change (-125 pg/mL, IQR -1038 to 6 pg/mL), P = 0.0011. The benefit of AV optimization was principally observed in reverse remodelling non-responders (median -2167 pg/mL, IQR -3042 to -305 pg/mL) and in patients with a pseudonormal or restrictive filling pattern (median -1407 pg/mL, IQR -2809 to -342 pg/mL), compared with those with more benign diastolic filling (median - 264 pg/mL, IQR -1038 to -21 pg/mL), P = 0.033. CONCLUSIONS: In one-third of patients, major filling pattern changes are achieved with AV optimization, associated with subsequent rapid falls in NT-proBNP. The greater the AV delay change, the larger the NT-proBNP fall, and non-responders and those with restrictive or pseudonormal filling despite CRT are most likely to benefit

    Microtubule severing enzymes regulate microtubule dynamics in a wide range of organisms and are implicated in important cell cycle processes such as mitotic spindle assembly and disassembly, chromosome movement and cytokinesis. Here we explore the function of several microtubule severing enzyme homologues, the katanins (KAT80, KAT60a, KAT60b and KAT60c), spastin (SPA) and fidgetin (FID) in the bloodstream stage of the African trypanosome parasite, Trypanosoma brucei. The trypanosome cytoskeleton is microtubule based and remains assembled throughout the cell cycle, necessitating its remodelling during cytokinesis. Using RNA interference to deplete individual proteins, we show that the trypanosome katanin and spastin homologues are non-redundant and essential for bloodstream form proliferation. Further, cell cycle analysis revealed that these proteins play essential but discrete roles in cytokinesis. The KAT60 proteins each appear to be important during the early stages of cytokinesis, while downregulation of KAT80 specifically inhibited furrow ingression and SPA depletion prevented completion of abscission. In contrast, RNA interference of FID did not result in any discernible effects.     Effects of fire-fighting on a fully developed compartment fire: temperatures and emissions

    This study evaluates the effects and consequences of fire-fighting operations on the main characteristics of a fully-developed compartment fire. It also presents data and evaluation of the conditions to which fire-fighters are exposed. A typical room enclosure was used with ventilation through a corridor to the front access door. The fire load was wooden pallets. Flashover was reached and the fire became fully developed before the involvement of the fire-fighting team. The progression of the fire-fighters through the corridor and the main-room suppression attack - in particular the effect of short, medium and long water pulses on either the hot gas layer or the fire seat - was charted against the compartment temperatures, heat release rates, oxygen levels and toxic species concentrations. The fire fighting team was exposed to extreme conditions, heat fluxes in excess of 35 kW/m2 and temperatures of the order of 250 oC even at crouching level. The fire equivalence ratio showed rich burning with high toxic emissions in particular of CO and unburnt hydrocarbons very early in the fire history and a stabilisation of the equivalence ratio at about 1.8.
