    Study of the effect of neutrino oscillations on the supernova neutrino signal in the LVD detector

    The LVD detector, located in the INFN Gran Sasso National Laboratory (Italy), studies supernova neutrinos through the interactions with protons and carbon nuclei in the liquid scintillator and interactions with the iron nuclei of the support structure. We investigate the effect of neutrino oscillations in the signal expected in the LVD detector. The MSW effect has been studied in detail for neutrinos travelling through the collapsing star and the Earth. We show that the expected number of events and their energy spectrum are sensitive to the oscillation parameters, in particular to the mass hierarchy and the value of θ13\theta_{13}, presently unknown. Finally we discuss the astrophysical uncertainties, showing their importance and comparing it with the effect of neutrino oscillations on the expected signal.Comment: Accepted for pubblication on Astroparticle Physics. 36 pages, 18 figure

    Scintillating bolometers based on ZnMoO4 and Zn100MoO4 crystals to search for 0ν2β decay of 100Mo (LUMINEU project): first tests at the Modane Underground Laboratory

    The technology of scintillating bolometers based on zinc molybdate (ZnMoO4) crystals is under development within the LUMINEU project to search for decay of 100Mo with the goal to set the basis for large scale experiments capable to explore the inverted hierarchy region of the neutrino mass pattern. Advanced ZnMoO4 crystal scintillators with mass of ∼0.3 kg were developed and Zn100MoO4 crystal from enriched 100Mo was produced for the first time by using the low-thermal-gradient Czochralski technique. One ZnMoO4 scintillator and two samples (59 g and 63 g) cut from the enriched boule were tested aboveground at milli-Kelvin temperature as scintillating bolometers showing a high detection performance. The first results of the low background measurements with three ZnMoO4 and two enriched detectors installed in the EDELWEISS set-up at the Modane Underground Laboratory (France) are presented

    The necessity to develop the individual work skills of foreign students at the faculties of pre-university training in Russian Higher Educational Institutions is discussed in the article. The key trends of development of students’ individual work skills are illustrated using the subject of chemistry at the faculty of Russian Language and General Educational Disciplines of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia. The following peculiar features of organization of the main forms of individual work are discussed: preparing for the tests in the basic course units, summary writing and defense, designing and running of chemical experiments. Preparation for the tests shall be made by means of multiple tasks in all the units of the course and test cases. The modern way of forming a learning task using the existing intellectual technologies is offered. The advantages of multiple choice training exercises and control assessment tests are described. This contemporary approach allows to gather a large number of new variants quickly, to reduce the time for testing the results and at the same time to cooperate with many students. The principal stages of project activities of foreign students, their aspects and difficulties are discussed. Due to the development of individual work skills of foreign students it is possible to enhance the efficiency of learning activity, to fill in the gap in class hours provided for learning particular topics, to develop the cognitive abilities and to form the intellectual potential of the students.Встатье обсуждается необходимость формирования навыков самостоятельной работы иностранных студентов на факультетах довузовской подготовки в российских вузах. Рассматриваютсяосновные направления развития навыков самостоятельной работы учащихся на примере учебной дисциплины «Химия» факультета русского языка и общеобразовательных дисциплин Российского университета дружбы народов. Обсуждаются особенности организации основных форм самостоятельной деятельности: подготовка к итоговым контрольным работам по основным разделам курса, написание и защита реферата, планирование и проведение химического эксперимента. Подготовка к контрольным работам осуществляется с помощью многовариантных заданий по всем разделам курса и тестовых заданий. Предлагается современный способ формирования учебного задания: с использованием современных интеллектуальных технологий. Описываются преимущества комплекса тренировочных и контрольных тестов. Такой современный подход позволяет быстро комплектовать большое количество новых вариантов, уменьшить время проверки результатов и одновременно взаимодействовать с большим количеством студентов.Обсуждаются основные этапы проектной деятельности иностранных учащихся, особенности и трудности исполнения. Благодаря формированию навыка самостоятельной работы иностранных студентов удаётся: повысить эффективность учебной деятельности, восполнить недостаток аудиторного времени, которое отводится на усвоение отдельных тем, развить познавательные способности и сформировать интеллектуальный потенциал студентов

    The article analyzes the forms and methods of knowledge check of international students at the stage of pre-university training, and their impact on the effectiveness of educational activities at the Chair of Chemistry and Biology of the Department of Russian Language and General Disciplines at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia. The authors discuss the features of the use of oral and written forms of knowledge check, testing, as well as the feasibility of their use at each stage of the study of chemistry. Written check test is the most objective and accurate method to assess knowledge in chemistry, but the poor command of the subject language limits its use in the international students’ audience. The oral testing contributes to improvement of language and speech skills of students, assimilation of lexical and grammatical constructions, and expansion of professional vocabulary. Testing is the most convenient form of knowledge assessment in international audience because it helps student and teacher to overcome the language barrier separating them. The article describes the advantages of conducting check using a computer-based form. It is noted that for international students, who learn Russian in parallel with other disciplines, constant monitoring of the quality of learning material is a prerequisite to achieving success in the educational process. © 2019, Institute of Advanced Scientific Research, Inc.     Visualization of the emotional vocabulary of the Chinese language as exemplified in the associative experiment

    This scientific research is aimed at describing of semantic connotations of the emotional words joy, sadness, happiness, sorrow, anger, love, hatred, fear, envy, jealousy, conscience, hope in the Chinese language. To achieve the stated objective, the authors used the method of the associative experiment as the most convenient way to visualize the linguistic consciousness of native speakers. With its help, one can judge about the features of the human linguistic consciousness functioning and the ways of constructing speech utterances, which are usually not recognized by native speakers and are not identified by other methods of investigation. Associations in this aspect are considered as one of the means of access to the human linguistic consciousness and the construction of the fundamental values of man and the ethos as a whole on their basis. A large number of Chinese students in the People’s Friendship University of Russia made it possible to conduct an associative experiment in a computer class where one hundred Chinese respondents aged 17-25, most of whom are atheists and do not represent any confessions, were asked to fill out a questionnaire translated into Chinese. According to the research ethics, the principle of anonymity was respected during the experiment.
