The EAEA Younger Staff Training is a good example of a successful initiative that encour-ages the professional development of adult education staff, builds new collaborations, and explores the diversity of policy and practice in adult learning in Europe. Organized annually since 2011, the training programme has undergone several modifications over the years to adapt to the changing needs of adult education professionals. The paper looks at the content and structure of the programme, with specific attention to how these have evolved and the rationale behind the changes. It also briefly describes why the training programme continues to be successful and its benefits for both the participants and the organizers

Improving the conservation of Mediterranean Chondrichthyans : the ELASMOMED DNA barcode reference library

Cartilaginous fish are particularly vulnerable to anthropogenic stressors and environmental change because of their K-selected reproductive strategy. Accurate data from scientific surveys and landings are essential to assess conservation status and to develop robust protection and management plans. Currently available data are often incomplete or incorrect as a result of inaccurate species identifications, due to a high level of morphological stasis, especially among closely related taxa. Moreover, several diagnostic characters clearly visible in adult specimens are less evident in juveniles. Here we present results generated by the ELASMOMED Consortium, a regional network aiming to sample and DNA-barcode the Mediterranean Chondrichthyans with the ultimate goal to provide a comprehensive DNA barcode reference library. This library will support and improve the molecular taxonomy of this group and the effectiveness of management and conservation measures. We successfully barcoded 882 individuals belonging to 42 species (17 sharks, 24 batoids and one chimaera), including four endemic and several threatened ones. Morphological misidentifications were found across most orders, further confirming the need for a comprehensive DNA barcoding library as a valuable tool for the reliable identification of specimens in support of taxonomist who are reviewing current identification keys. Despite low intraspecific variation among their barcode sequences and reduced samples size, five species showed preliminary evidence of phylogeographic structure. Overall, the ELASMOMED initiative further emphasizes the key role accurate DNA barcoding libraries play in establishing reliable diagnostic species specific features in otherwise taxonomically problematic groups for biodiversity management and conservation actions.peer-reviewe

La presente invenzione si riferisce al settore dei dispositivi biomedici. Più in particolare, si riferisce al settore dei dispositivi per il rilievo degli arti, in particolare al fine della produzione di ortesi. L'invenzione ha lo scopo di facilitare e rendere più efficaci le operazioni di rilievo dell'anatomia degli arti inferiori nei bambini, con particolare riferimento a quelli affetti da distrofia muscolare, tenendo conto delle esigenze operative del personale medico, ma anche di quelle psicologiche dei pazienti

“Inclusive design - sustainable design”: unità di ricerca dell’Università di Ferrara

L’unità di ricerca, coordinata da Giuseppe Mincolelli, adotta un approccio “su misura” Human Centered alla Design Research per l’analisi, concezione e sviluppo di progetti pensati per migliorare la qualità della vita di individui e comunità. Di seguito alcune attività di ricerca da segnalare: “Design for Duchenne”, ricerca per conto di Parent Project Onlus: Associazione di genitori di figli affetti da distrofia muscolare di Duchenne/Becker. Sono state attivate tre borse di studio co-finanziate per dottorati di ricerca su temi quali l’inclusione scolastica (A. Galletti), le ortesi personalizzate tramite body-scanning e 3d-printing (A. Tursi) e lo spazio domestico (M. Marchi). Quest’ultima ricerca ha portato alla pubblicazione di un manuale tecnico dotato di un’interfaccia grafica specifica differenziata per famiglie e progettisti. “Progetto HABITAT”, finanziato nell’ambito del POR FESR 2014-2020 della Regione Emilia Romagna , di durata biennale. Il progetto HABITAT viene sviluppato da un team multidisciplinare ed è finalizzato alla progettazione e testing di un sistema composto da smart objects per la cura ed il monitoraggio dell’anziano nell’ottica di un prolungamento della vita autonoma

Phytoextraction from Chromium-Contaminated Soil Using Moso Bamboo in Mediterranean Conditions

An experimentation has been carried out in simulated Mediterranean and tropical laboratory conditions aimed to show the Moso bamboo capability of phytoextraction chromium from contaminated soil. Electronic microscopy supported the analyses performed on soil and on the different plant tissues. A preliminary test on the bamboo has been carried out in laboratory evaluating his growth with irrigation in Mediterranean conditions (600 mm/year) and tropical conditions (1.800 mm/year). A test of the bamboo tolerance of was also carried out by measuring his growth with irrigation with a solution of 100 mg Cr/l, reporting not significant damages to the plant tissues. Subsequently chromium phytoextraction was tested highlighting that bamboo removes Cr from soil with a percentage ranging from 43% (600 mm/year) to 47.4% (1.800 mm/year) of the total content in soil. Lastly, the distribution of chromium in the different fragments of the bamboo plants has been performed. It has been shown that approx. 69% of chromium, in Mediterranean conditions, was in the rhizomes and approx. 68% in tropical conditions. A slightly higher tendency to chromium translocation to leaves has been shown in tropical conditions than in Mediterranean conditions
