This study explored the opinions of teachers regarding use and effectiveness in the use of graphic organizers in their classroom instruction. Data collection and analyses sought to determine if participating teachers used graphic organizers in their classrooms and how effective teachers perceived graphic organizers to be in the areas of English/language arts, social studies, science, and math. A descriptive statistical study was conducted using a survey emailed nationwide. Quantitative methods of data collection, including a questionnaire, were used to gauge teachers' attitudes and uses of graphic organizers in their classrooms. The majority of teachers surveyed indicated they were aware of graphic organizer use and effectiveness in the classroom. Future research topics and recommendations were summarized regarding the use of graphic organizers by teachers in the high school content classrooms

Improving Healthy Habits in Berlin, VT

A significant percentage of patient’s at Berlin Family Practice have diagnoses of Type II Diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and/or obesity. Essential to treatment and management of these conditions are a healthy diet and exercise. There are many local and national resources available but no single place where patient’s can find links to national as well as local resources in the Central Vermont community. There is also insufficient time for physicians or nurses to counsel patients on relevant resources. This project involved creation of a website with community and national resources for healthy living that providers could refer patients to. A brochure with healthy living tips was made available to patients and providers in exam rooms. A presentation was given to providers in the office with details about the website as well as about community programs that they could refer people to and their contacts in the community. The response from providers and office staff was positive. It is still too early to tell whether or not the implementation of the website will encourage and improve healthy living in Berlin, VT.https://scholarworks.uvm.edu/fmclerk/1100/thumbnail.jp

The Family Hope Program (PKH) is a national priority to accelerate poverty reduction. One of the PKH Beneficiary Families' (KPM) obligations to improve this is to attend Family Capacity Building Meetings (P2K2). This study aims to describe the empowerment of KPM PKH through P2K2 in the Karawaci sub-district. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a descriptive research type. Data collection techniques are through in-depth interviews, observation, and document study. The study results show that empowerment through P2K2 for KPM in the Karawaci sub-district has been going well, but until now, there has been no independent graduation of KPM PKH due to P2K2. PKH assistants obstacles in empowering KPM PKH through P2K2, namely the participation and level of understanding of KPM. For this reason, the ability and number of assistants, P2K2 operational funds, facilities, and P2K2 module materials need attention to maximize self-graduation efforts, especially comprehensive attention related to economic aspects in empowering KPM

Foeniculum sanguineum Triano & A. Pujadas, sp. nov., from the south western Mediterranean Region (Spain & Morocco) is described. Its characterization and a comparative study with the related species Foeniculum vulgare Mill., has been carried out through morphological, cytological, chemical and molecular analysis. F. sanguineum is distinguished primarily for its red petals, pink pollen in fresh, and red stylopod. It is a diploid species (2n= 22). A high proportion of limonene and piperitenone oxide (absent in F. vulgare) has been found in the essential oil composition of the dry fruits of F. sanguineum and a high amount (about 50 %) of α-phellandrene in its roots and stems. Phylogenetic analyses were performed using the internal transcribed spacer sequences of nuclear ribosomal DNA (ITS) and the chloroplast rbcL gene sequences. ITS analysis supports the existence of the new species, while revealing sequence divergence both at the intraspecific and at the interspecific levels. A Single-nucleotide-polymorphism (SNP) sequence divergence found in the slow evolving chloroplast gene provided additional support for the novel species characterization, for which the name Foeniculum sanguineum is proposed
