Mass and density of B-type asteroid (702) Alauda
Observations with the adaptive optics system on the Very Large Telescope
reveal that outer main belt asteroid (702) Alauda has a small satellite with
primary to secondary diameter ratio of 56. The secondary revolves around
the primary in 4.9143 0.007 days at a distance of 1227 24 km,
yielding a total system mass of (6.057 0.36) 10 kg.
Combined with an IRAS size measurement, our data yield a bulk density for this
B-type asteroid of 1570 500 kg~m.Comment: In press, ApJ 2011. 6 pages, 4 figure
The sociology of pharmaceuticals: progress and prospects
This paper takes a critical look at progress and prospects regarding the sociology of pharmaceuticals over the years. Key themes examined include: (i) medicalisation and pharmaceuticalisation; (ii) regulation; (iii) consumption and consumerism; (iv) expectations and innovation. Papers in the monograph are also introduced and discussed in relation to these themes. The paper concludes with some further comments and reflections on progress and prospects in this field, emphasising the continuing importance of sociological engagement with these personal and political issues in the 21st century
Serving within the British army: research into mental health benefits
This document is the Accepted Manuscript version of a Published Work that appeared in final form in British Journal of Nursing, copyright © MA Education, after peer review and technical editing by the publisher. To access the final edited and published work see http://www.magonlinelibrary.com/doi/abs/10.12968/bjon.2011.20.19.1256The mental health (MH) of soldiers remains extremely newsworthy and is regularly featured in high profile media forums that focus on post-traumatic stress disorder. However, the authors feel that there are distinct benefits to serving within the Army, and that it provides effective occupational medical, MH and welfare support. This research study explores potential benefits and stressors of being in the Army and provides an overview of Army mental health services (AMHS) through the perspectives of AMHS personnel, 84% of which were nurses. The study indicated that the Army can provide a protective community, sharing a bond based on common values and experiences. The Army can provide soldiers with career opportunities that are not available in civilian life, and there are opportunities to develop an employment profile, enhanced by internal and external educational training, and encapsulated within a progressive career pathway. The Army can also be seen to offer an escape route, preventing soldiers entering a life of crime, and supplying the stable family these soldiers had never experienced. The provision of leadership, within an environment where soldiers are valued and stigma is not tolerated can potentially shield against MH problems

Modularity of Certain Potentially Barsotti-Tate Galois Representations
We show that certain potentially semistable lifts of modular modrepresentations are themselves modular. As a result we show that any elliptic curve over the rational numbers with conductor not divisible by 27 is modular.Mathematic
The Shimura-Taniyama Conjecture and Conformal Field Theory
The Shimura-Taniyama conjecture states that the Mellin transform of the
Hasse-Weil L-function of any elliptic curve defined over the rational numbers
is a modular form. Recent work of Wiles, Taylor-Wiles and
Breuil-Conrad-Diamond-Taylor has provided a proof of this longstanding
conjecture. Elliptic curves provide the simplest framework for a class of
Calabi-Yau manifolds which have been conjectured to be exactly solvable. It is
shown that the Hasse-Weil modular form determined by the arithmetic structure
of the Fermat type elliptic curve is related in a natural way to a modular form
arising from the character of a conformal field theory derived from an affine
Kac-Moody algebra
Elliptic Curves over Real Quadratic Fields are Modular
We prove that all elliptic curves defined over real quadratic fields are
modular.Comment: 38 pages. Magma scripts available as ancillary files with this arXiv
