In the article the actual problem of increasing the efficiency of the process of formation in cognitive universal educational actions of setting and solving the problem in junior schoolchildren is considered. The article contains the described and described didactic conditions for the formation of cognitive universal educational activities for the formulation and solution of the problem in younger schoolchildren. The pedagogical experience of the implementation of each didactic condition is represented through the constructed and tested teaching problem tasks. The carried out research, the analysis of its results made it possible to obtain data on the significance of the implementation of the didactic conditions for the formation of cognitive universal educational activities for the formulation and solution of the problem in younger schoolchildren in the educational activity of the primary school

The article presents methodological, diagnostic and technological (procedural) components of the formation in younger schoolchildren of cognitive universal educational actions (PAP) of the setting and solution of the problem. The methodology of forming the components of «problem setting» and «problem solving» is disclosed in the article from the perspective of the system approach. The diagnostic component presents the diagnostic tactics (criteria, indicators, model of formation levels) of the PDS «problem setting» and «problem solving» in younger schoolchildren; There is provided didactic-methodical instrumentation for determining possible levels of UDM formation, problem setting and problem solution at the control stage of the experiment (qualitative and quantitative analysis of the execution of complex diagnostic tasks by junior students). The procedural component shows that compliance in the educational activity of the primary school with the principles of technology of intellectual and developing education, provision of visualization of problem situations, implementation of speech control of the process of setting and solving the problem through the development of speech logic in children increases the efficiency of the process of formation of education of students of the primary school in the younger schoolchildren in the ability to formulate and solve problems. The study carried out and the analysis of its results make it possible to draw a conclusion on the expediency of implementing in the educational activity of the primary school a designated didactic strategy, which helps the teacher to master the universal didactic tools of teaching younger schoolchildren to solve the educational problem and solve it.

The article outlines the problem of using the potential of toy books in preparing bachelor students for purposeful work on the formation of mathematical concepts in preschool children and suggests the idea of organizing the creative activity of students to design toy books with mathematical content. The article contains an overview of classifications of toy books, pedagogically characterized and methodically described examples-constructs of various types of toy books created by bachelor students. The pedagogical potential of these constructs allows us in this work to consider a toy book as a means of mathematical education for preschool children. The purpose of the study is a theoretical description and empirical understanding of the advantages of using the potential of a toy book with mathematical content in the educational activities of a university for the development of creative thinking of future preschool teachers. To achieve the goal, the following methods were used: theoretical analysis of literary sources, Internet resources, analysis of statistical data and a pedagogical experiment. The results of the study showed difficulties in mastering the method of designing a toy book with mathematical content, revealed the preferences of future educators-educators in choosing one or another type of toy book that dominates in its content a mathematical topic and methodological features of its implementation in the presented design form. The conducted research and analysis of the results allowed us to obtain data on the importance of including in the process of training future teachers-educators a creative technique - the design of toy books with mathematical content.

The article deals with the actual problem of effective pedagogical management of the process of formation of communicative universal educational action «asking questions» in junior schoolchildren. In order to solve the problem under study, this paper presents a diagnostic and methodological complex for assessing the degree of formation of the designated universal educational action in elementary school students, which includes a system of criteria, scaled nominative indicators, a theoretical model of the formation of the designated universal educational action in students, consisting of five possible levels - standards, as well as diagnostic tools adapted to the age characteristics of younger schoolchildren. The empirical experience of using diagnostic tools in the practice of an elementary school teacher, qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results of the study made it possible to obtain data on the degree of formation of the components of the communicative universal educational action «asking questions» in the educational activities of elementary school in junior schoolchildren.

The study of conceptual metaphors in ESAP L2 writing: range and variability

The article presents the study of the influence of professional competence of EFL learners on their academic writing. The task was approached through analyzing learners’ competence in specific knowledge domains - knowledge of terms and specific concepts, represented as conceptual metaphors. Conceptual metaphor models were analyzed in the English written texts produced by Russian students with different competences in economics – at both non-professional and professional levels of academic discourse (NPAD and PAD respectively). Metaphor Identification Procedure VU University Amsterdam (MIPVU) was applied to metaphor identification, and alternative metaphor and preferential conceptualization analysis was performed to compare the scope of source and the range of target in NPAD and PAD. Findings highlight the areas of commonality as well as divergence in terms of students’ professional competence represented in conceptual metaphors in L2 writing. The main differences in the scope of the source analysis are quantitative rather than qualitative. The range of target comparison between NPAD and PAD indicates a significantly larger range of targets for the professional level students, a lower level of metaphorization for the non-professional level, and inclusive strategies across the two levels. Practical recommendations suggest an improved research methodology for studying metaphor production in EAP and ESP as well as a deeper understanding of ESP content and its structure

AbstractObjectiveTo investigate the risk of hospitalization and death following prostate biopsy.Study designRetrospective cohort study.MethodsOur study population comprised 10,285 patients with a record of first ever prostate biopsy between 2009 and 2013 on computerized acute hospital discharge or outpatient records covering Scotland. Using the general population as a comparison group, expected numbers of admissions/deaths were derived by applying age-, sex-, deprivation category-, and calendar year-specific rates of hospital admissions/deaths to the study population. Indirectly standardized hospital admission ratios (SHRs) and mortality ratios (SMRs) were calculated by dividing the observed numbers of admissions/deaths by expected numbers.ResultsCompared with background rates, patients were more likely to be admitted to hospital within 30 days (SHR 2.7; 95% confidence interval 2.4, 2.9) and 120 days (SHR 4.0; 3.8, 4.1) of biopsy. Patients with prior co-morbidity had higher SHRs. The risk of death within 30 days of biopsy was not increased significantly (SMR 1.6; 0.9, 2.7), but within 120 days, the risk of death was significantly higher than expected (SMR 1.9; 1.5, 2.4). The risk of death increased with age and tended to be higher among patients with prior co-morbidity. Overall risks of hospitalization and of death up to 120 days were increased both in men diagnosed and those not diagnosed with prostate cancer.ConclusionsHigher rates of adverse events in older patients and patients with prior co-morbidity emphasizes the need for careful patient selection for prostate biopsy and justifies ongoing efforts to minimize the risk of complications
