Comment on ``Bethe Ansatz Results for the 4f-Electron Spectra of a Degenerate Anderson Model ''
In a recent letter, Zvyagin calculates the density of states for 4f electrons
coupled to a conduction band in the framework of the Bethe ansatz (BA) solution
for the degenerate Anderson model. It is claimed that the results qualitatively
disagree with the results obtained for the same model but using a variational
approach. Even the high energy feature in the f-spectral function near the
4f-level energy ef, i.e. the ``normal'' ionization peak (NIP), is argued to be
qualitatively different in the two approaches. In the following we point out
that this is not the case.Comment: 1 page, RevTeX, no figur
Neutralino Dark Matter and Caustic Ring Signals
We have studied the effects on the gamma-ray flux on Earth by neutralino
annihilations in caustic rings of dark matter in the Galactic halo. The caustic
ring model by Sikivie has been used where dark matter particles are assumed to
possess angular momentum with respect to the Galactic centre. The computer code
DarkSUSY was then used to examine the supersymmetric implications on the flux.
We conclude that a small signal might be detectable under very optimistic
assumptions, but under these only.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, contribution to the proceedings of the 3rd

What Is Constituted in Self-Constitution?
A subject who has a self-transformation behind
herself—say, a conversion to Catholicism—may say of
herself "before transforming myself, I was a different
person. How are we to understand such a claim?
Obviously, there is a sense in which the subject takes
herself to be the same as before and another sense in
which she considers herself to be somebody else now.
One possible way of understanding it would be the
following: Despite the change involved in the selftransformation,
there is enough similiarity between the preconversion
subject—S1—and the converted subject—
S2—to say that they are numerically identical. And there is
enough difference for the subject to speak of herself before
the self-transformation as another person
Hubbard model with orbital degeneracy and integer or noninteger filling
The photoemission spectrum and the specific heat are studied in the Hubbard
model of small clusters including orbital degeneracy. We focus on the
degeneracy and valence dependence in the limit of a large Coulomb interaction.
For integer valence, it is found that the degeneracy increases the width of the
photoemission spectrum and it reduces the contribution from the charge degrees
of freedom to the specific heat. A deviation from integer valence reduces the
width of the photoemission spectrum.Comment: 11 pages, revtex, 14 eps figures, Z. Physik B (to be publ.),

EU Legitimacy and Social Affiliation: A case study of engineers in Europe
Analyses of European governance usually put the member states in the foreground, placing the citizens in the background. This article brings explanations of EU legitimacy down to the level of individuals. A method is suggested that combines explanations based on individual interests and a sociological approach to identity. The paper investigates how work organisations become levers for a European outlook that may release legitimising from its national context. The individual level analysis is carried out for one particular occupational group (engineers) and the research questions are elucidated by case studies.social capital; social identity; civil society; open methods of coordination
EU Legitimacy and Social Affiliation: A study of Engineers in Europe
Analyses of European governance usually bring the member states into the fore placing the citizens in the background. By means of economic analysis, this paper brings explanations of EU legitimacy down to the level of individuals. A method will be suggested that combines explanations based on individual interests and a sociological approach to identity. The paper investigates how work organizations become levers for a European outlook that may release legitimizing from its national context. The individual level analysis will be carried out for one particular occupational group (engineers) and the research questions are elucidated by a small number of interviews with Danish engineers concerning their experience of policies and actions with technological knowledge.legitimacy; social capital; transaction costs; social identity; multi-level governance
Communication between Public and Private Interests and the Europeanisation at the Regional Level.
This paper sheds light on the way in which sovereignty is transferred from the state to the sub-national level as a result of European integration. It poses the question whether communication links between public organizations and private companies could improve the 'bottom up' drive from the regional level in multi-level governance and thereby improve the legitimacy of the EU. The paper looks into this question by considering differences between countries with regard to institutions in domestic politics. Empirically, it investigates policies pursued by regional authorities with respect to public services to private companies and how these policies affiliate with the overall policies of EU-focused regional associations. Theoretically, it is argued that the establishment of a regional role in the EU can be explained by evolutionary theory of institutional change. The notion of 'output-based legitimacy' is applied to clarify the legitimising force of political actions channelled through industrial networks.multi-level governance; regional cross-border collaboration; linkages between public and private interests; legitimacy
