Sobre la semiosis en textos verbales y visuales

This paper critically analizes the social, political and interactional meanings that can be visually aprehended in a press photography. Certain data, such as the reciprocal collocations of the characters depticted, their respective gaze orientation and the overall composition of the image are opposed to the verbally expressed meanings of the text that appears with the photo. This semiotic experiment employs some categories and analytic processes that are conceived of as homologous to those that build the verbal texts. Some basic concepts are enumerated which are deemed necessary foar the analytic decomposition of visual texts, and some graphics are also shown that present linguistic findings in a visual code. The general argument postulates that human semiosis materializes itself in different material bases, with a relative independence of these, but grounded on compositional mechanisms which, at a certain level of abstraction, are common among the varied fields of symbolic construction.Este trabajo analiza críticamente los significados sociales y políticos (e inclusive interaccionales) que pueden aprehenderse visualmente en una fotografía de prensa. Datos como la colocación recíproca de los personajes, sus respectivas líneas de mirada y la composición general del cuadro se contraponen a los significados verbalmente expresados en el cuerpo del texto que acompaña a la imagen. Este experimento semiótico emplea categorías y procesos analíticos que se postulan homólogos a los que construyen los textos verbales. Aparecen asimismo algunos conceptos básicos que se requieren para una descomposición analítica de los textos visuales, y se exhiben algunas gráficas de descomposición verbal que adoptan el código visual para la presentación de resultados lingüísticos. En conjunto, la argumentación sostiene que la semiosis humana se plasma en distintos soportes materiales con relativa independencia de estos, con base en mecanismos composicionales que, dado cierto nivel de abstracción, son comunes a diferentes campos de construcción simbólica.Este trabalho analisa criticamente os significados sociais e políticos (e até mesmo interacionais) que podem apreender-se visualmente em uma fotografia de jornal. Dados como a colocação recíproca das personagens, suas respectivas linhas de olhar e a composição geral do quadro se contrapõem aos significados verbalmente expressados no corpo do texto que está associado à imagem. Este experimento semiótico emprega categorias e processos analíticos que se postulam homólogos aos que constroem os textos verbais. Assim mesmo, aparecem alguns conceitos básicos que são precisos para uma descomposição analítica dos textos visuais, e se exibem alguns gráficos de descomposição verbal que adotam o código visual para a presentação de resultados lingüísticos. Em conclusão, a argumentação sustém que a semiose humana se evidencia em distintos suportes materiais com relativa independência de estes, com base em mecanismos composicionais que, dado certo nível de abstração, são comuns a diferentes campos de construção simbólica

Tocar el lenguaje con la mano: experiencias de método

This article presents in a synthetic manner some of the postulares, processes and analytic steps followed in an extensive study of parliamentary discourse, historically based and hollistically oriented, materialized in linguistic and semiotic practices of verbal analysis of a documented corpus of institutional performances. The presentation of the model is not exhaustive because the text originates in an oral event (conference); a situation of enunciation that gives way to certain games in the temporal dimensions ofspeaking and reflecting and writing as overlapping planes of a discoursal exercise that addresses the readers in a direct and colloquial manner. As a whole, it is expected that the paper will be read a (sinthetic) theoretical intervention devoted to the treatment of method as an irreducible instantiation of conceptual nerworks. For this reason, the paper is not conceived as lacking in polemicai edges in the space of our discipline.Este artículo presenta de manera sintética algunos de los postulados, procesos y pasos analíticos seguidos en un estúdio extenso de discurso parlamentario, de base histórica y orientación holística, materializado en prácticas lingüísticas y semióticas de análisis verbal, sobre un corpus documentado de desempenos institucionales. La presentación dei modelo no es exhaustiva pues el texto emana de un evento oral (conferência), situación de enunciación que da base a ciertos juegos en las temporalidades de habla y de reflexión y escritura, como planos superpuestos de un ejercicio discursivo que procura dirigirse a sus lectores de manera directa y en modalidad coloquial. En conjunto, el trabajo aspira a ser leído como una intervención (sintética) de tipo teórico, dedicada al tratamiento de lo metodológico como una instanciación irreductible de tramas conceptuales.Por ello, no se concibe carente de ciertos filos polêmicos en el espacio de la disciplina.Este artigo apresenta de maneira sintética alguns dos postulados, processos e passos analíticos seguidos num estudo extenso de discurso parlamentar, de base histórica e orientação holística, materializado em práticas linguísticas e semióticas de análise verbal, sobre um corpus documentado de desempenhos institucionais. A apresentação do modelo não é exaustiva, pois o texto se produz num evento oral (conferência), situação de enunciação que permite certos jogos nas temporalidades de fala, de reflexão e escritura, como planos superpostos de um exercício discursivo que procura dirigir-se aos seus leitores de maneira direta e na modalidade coloquial. On-line database of voltammetric data of immobilized particles for identifying pigments and minerals in archaeometry, conservation and restoration (ELCHER database)

[EN] A web-based database of voltammograms is presented for characterizing artists' pigments and corrosion products of ceramic, stone and metal objects by means of the voltammetry of immobilized particles methodology. Description of the website and the database is provided. Voltammograms are, in most cases, accompanied by scanning electron microphotographs, X-ray spectra, infrared spectra acquired in attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy mode (ATR-FTIR) and diffuse reflectance spectra in the UV-Vis-region. For illustrating the usefulness of the database two case studies involving identification of pigments and a case study describing deterioration of an archaeological metallic object are presented. Cation and anion electrochemically assisted solid-state transformations of malachite green

[EN] The possibility of the electrochemical promotion of different solid-to-solid transformations including the performance of successive cation and anion insertion processes has been tested using malachite green, a triphenylmethane dye, in contact with aqueous NaCl electrolyte. Electrochemical data using the voltammetry of microparticles methodology reveal significant differences with the solution phase electrochemistry of the dye. Multiple-scan voltammetry and OCP: Archaeometric tools for dating archaeological bronzes

[EN] The application of a multiple-scan strategy to nanosamples taken from 18 cross-sections of Bronze Age arms and armour, as well as two Roman coins using two solid-state electrochemical techniques, the voltammetry of immobilized microparticles (VIMP) and open circuit potential measurements (OCP) is described. The voltammetric responses in contact with aqueous acetate buffer can be attributed to the reduction of cuprite with variable degree of compaction and crystallinity revealing significant differences in the gradient of such properties with depth. Such differences are also revealed by "dry" OCP measurements connecting points in the cross section near and separated from the corrosion layer. The voltammetric study of the metallographic samples of the bronze objects shows correlation with the age of the objects, respectively the period of their deposition.
