D0-brane description of the charged black hole
The charged black hole is considered from the viewpoint of D0-brane in the
Matrix theory. It can be obtained from the Kaluza-Klein mechanism by boosting
the Schwarzschild black hole in a circle, which is the compactified one
dimensional space. Especially, how the extremal limit is realized by the
Boltzmann gas of D0-brane, has been shown. In the course of our discussion, the

Effects of dust scattering albedo and 2175 A bump on ultraviolet colours of normal disc galaxies
We discuss dust properties in the interstellar medium (ISM) of nearby normal
galaxies, by comparing observations in the ultraviolet (UV) with simulations by
a radiative transfer model. The observed UV colours of nearby galaxies show a
reddening relative to their expected intrinsic colours. Some authors argued
that the Milky Way dust cannot reproduce the reddening because of the prominent
2175 \AA absorption bump. Other authors proposed a reduction mechanism of the
bump strength in an {\it attenuation law} derived from the ratio of the
observed intensity to the intrinsic one through an age-selective attenuation
(i.e., young stars are more attenuated selectively). We newly find that the
wavelength dependence of the scattering albedo also has a strong effect on the
UV colour; an albedo decreasing toward shorter wavelengths (except for the
absorption bump range) produces a significant UV reddening. After comparing the
observed UV colours of nearby normal galaxies with those expected from
radiative transfer simulations assumed several dust models, we find two sorts
of dust suitable for these galaxies: (1) dust with a bump and a smaller albedo
for a shorter wavelength (except for the bump range), and (2) dust without any
bump but with an almost constant albedo. If very small carbonaceous grains
responsible for the common unidentified infrared emission band are also the
bump carrier, the former dust is favorable. Finally, we derive mean attenuation
laws of various dust models as a function of the UV attenuation, and derive
some relations between the UV attenuation and observable/theoretical

Information Entropy in Cosmology
The effective evolution of an inhomogeneous cosmological model may be
described in terms of spatially averaged variables. We point out that in this
context, quite naturally, a measure arises which is identical to a fluid model
of the `Kullback-Leibler Relative Information Entropy', expressing the
distinguishability of the local inhomogeneous mass density field from its
spatial average on arbitrary compact domains. We discuss the time-evolution of
`effective information' and explore some implications. We conjecture that the
information content of the Universe -- measured by Relative Information Entropy

Measurement of the Vertical Distribution of Reflected Solar Radiation*
The purpose of this study was to develop a devicefor measuring the vertical distribution of the reflected radiation to the inside of a room from terrace to building.The proposed device is attached to aluminum plates that are painted matte black at intervals of 20 cm on polystyrene insulation. The surface temperature of the aluminum plate, called the SAT (sol-air temperature), is used as an indicator of the quantity of solar radiation. In order to compare terrace materials, two of the measuring devices were located facing south.Concrete tile, artificial turf, and wood chips were selected as materials to be comparedfor the surface of the terrace and were laid in front of the measuring devices. The results indicate that the SAT reflected onto a vertical plane was higher closer to the ground for all materials. Hourly fluctuations of the vertical distribution of the reflected solar radiation differed, depending on the terrace surface material. When concrete tiles of different thicknesses were compared, the temporal heating patterns varied due to differences in heat capacity. These results lead us to the conclusion that using the developed measuringdevice enables grasping the effect of vertical distribution of reflected solar radiation from a terrace
Naked Singularity and Thunderbolt
We consider quantum theoretical effects of the sudden change of the boundary
conditions which mimics the occurrence of naked singularities. For a simple
demonstration, we study a massless scalar field in -dimensional
Minkowski spacetime with finite spatial interval. We calculate the vacuum
expectation value of the energy-momentum tensor and explicitly show that
singular wave or {\em thunderbolt} appears along the Cauchy horizon. The
thunderbolt possibly destroys the Cauchy horizon if its backreaction on the
geometry is taken into account, leading to quantum restoration of the global
hyperbolicity. The result of the present work may also apply to the situation
that a closed string freely oscillating is traveling to a brane and changes
itself to an open string pinned-down by the ends satisfying the Dirichlet

Observation of a Highly Spin Polarized Topological Surface State in GeBiTe
Spin polarization of a topological surface state for GeBiTe, the
newly discovered three-dimensional topological insulator, has been studied by
means of the state of the art spin- and angle-resolved photoemission
spectroscopy. It has been revealed that the disorder in the crystal has a minor
effect on the surface state spin polarization and it exceeds 75% near the Dirac
point in the bulk energy gap region (180 meV). This new finding for
GeBiTe promises not only to realize a highly spin polarized surface
isolated transport but to add new functionality to its thermoelectric and
thermomagnetic properties.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Inclusive dileptonic rare B decays with an extra generation of vector-like quarks
We investigate the leading effects of extending the Standard Model of
electroweak interactions by an extra iso-singlet up- and down- type quark pair
on various distributions and total branching ratio of the inclusive B-> X_s l^+
l^- (l =e,\mu) rare B decays. The presence of the extra vector-like down quark
results in the non-unitarity of the extended quark mixing matrix V, which
in turn leads to b-> s FCNC at the tree level proportional to (V^\dagger
V)_{sb}. On the other hand, the effective penguin and box vertex functions are
sensitive to the mass of the extra iso-singlet up quark m_U. The experimental
upper bound on BR(B-> X_s \mu^+ \mu^-) is used to constrain the parameters of
the model. It is shown that the shapes of the differential branching ratio and
forward-backward asymmetry distribution are very sensitive to the value of the
model parameters. We also calculate the CP aymmetry distribution of the
dileptonic decay in the vector-like quark model. It is shown that, for a
typical choice of the model parameters, asymmetries up to around 10% can be
achieved for certain values of the dilepton invariant mass.Comment: 15 pages, 2 figure
HIV prevalence and factors associated with HIV infection among male injection drug users under 30: a cross-sectional study in Long An, Vietnam
BACKGROUND: Sufficient targeted HIV prevention activities aiming at reducing HIV transmission within and from an extremely marginalized population of injection drug users (IDUs) must urgently and efficiently be implemented in Vietnam. This study was conducted to facilitate the development of such activities by describing transmission risks of young IDUs and evaluating factors in association with HIV infection. METHODS: Thirty clusters were selected from 29 hotspot communes in Long An province by probability proportional to size (PPS) sampling method. The snowball technique was used for enrolling participants in each cluster. The cross-sectional association of factors obtained during direct structured interviews to 248 male IDUs aged 14 to 29 years old and with their HIV test results were examined. RESULTS: The HIV prevalence among the studied IDUs was 32%. Age range of 18–20 years old, low educational level, sharing injection equipment or injection drug use in the other cities were independently associated with HIV serostatus in the multivariate analysis. Sexual behaviors did not differ between HIV-positive and -negative IDUs. Among HIV seropositive IDUs who had sexual contact with primary (n = 37), casual (n = 6), and commercial (n = 15) partners, only 5.4% (n = 2), 33.3% (n = 2), and 46.7% (n = 7), respectively, responded that they had used condoms every time. CONCLUSION: About one-third of young IDUs aged less than 30 identified in the hotspot communes in Long An, Vietnam was found to be infected with HIV, and socio-demographic and injection-related factors might account for the infection risk. Prevailing risky sexual behavior of this extremely marginalized population highlights the need to reduce their high transmission risks as a public health priority
Weak Values with Decoherence
The weak value of an observable is experimentally accessible by weak
measurements as theoretically analyzed by Aharonov et al. and recently
experimentally demonstrated. We introduce a weak operator associated with the
weak values and give a general framework of quantum operations to the W
operator in parallel with the Kraus representation of the completely positive
map for the density operator. The decoherence effect is also investigated in
terms of the weak measurement by a shift of a probe wave function of continuous
variable. As an application, we demonstrate how the geometric phase is affected
