    African American and European American Therapists’ Experiences of Addressing Race in Cross-Racial Psychotherapy Dyads

    Using Consensual Qualitative Research, 12 licensed psychologists’ overall experiences addressing race in psychotherapy were investigated, as were their experiences addressing race in a specific cross-racial therapy dyad. Results indicated that only African American psychologists reported routinely addressing race with clients of color or when race was part of a client’s presenting concern. European American psychologists indicated that they would address race if clients raised the topic, and some reported that they did not normally address race with racially different clients. When discussing a specific cross-racial dyad, African American therapists more often than European American therapists addressed race because they perceived client discomfort. Only European American therapists reported feeling uncomfortable addressing race, but therapists of both races perceived that such discussions had positive effects

    NASAs Human Landing System: The Strategy for the 2024 Mission and Future Sustainability

    In response to the 2018 White House Space Policy Directive- sustainable lunar exploration, and to the Vice Presidents March 2019 direction to do so by 2024, NASA is working to establish humanity's presence on and around the Moon by: 1) sending payloads to its surface, 2) assembling the Gateway outpost in orbit and 3) demonstrating the first human lunar landings since 1972. NASAs Artemis program is implementing a multi-faceted and coordinated agency-wide approach with a focus on the lunar South Pole. The Artemis missions will demonstrate new technologies, capabilities and business approaches needed for future exploration, including Mars. Assessing options to accelerate development of required systems, NASA is utilizing public-private engagements through the Human Exploration and Operations (HEO) Mission Directorates NextSTEP Broad Agency Announcements. The design, development and demonstration of the Human Landing System (HLS) is expected to be led by commercial partners. Utilizing efforts across mission directorates, the Artemis effort will benefit from programs from the Science Mission Directorate (SMD) and Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD). SMDs Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative will procure commercial robotic lunar delivery services and the development of science instruments and technology demonstration payloads. The Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) portfolio of technology advancements relative to HLS include lunar lander components and technologies for pointing, navigation and tracking, fuel storage and transfer, autonomy and mobility, communications, propulsion and power. In addition to describing the objectives and requirements of the 2024 Artemis mission, this paper will present NASAs approach to accessing the lunar surface with an affordable human-rated landing system, current status and the role o a sustainable lunar presence

    Local Thermalization in the d + Au System

    The extent of a locally equilibrated parton plasma in d + Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV is investigated as a function of collision centrality in a nonequilibrium-statistical framework. Based on a three-sources model, analytical solutions of a relativistic diffusion equation are in precise agreement with recent data for charged-particle pseudorapidity distributions. The moving midrapidity source indicates the size of the local thermal equilibrium region after hadronization.     C IV and other Metal Absorption Line Systems in 18 z = 4 Quasars

    We present a modest survey of quasar metal line absorption systems at redshifts 2.3–4.5. Relatively high signal-to-noise ratio (~25 pixel^(-1)) spectra of 18 quasars at 2 Å FWHM resolution show many absorption systems with strong metal lines in the region redward of the Lyα emission lines. We conducted a systematic search and found 55 C IV doublets, 19 Si IV doublets, three Mg II doublets, and seven N V doublets. The present data alone hint that the number of C IV absorption doublets per unit redshift, N(z), decreases with increasing redshift for 2.3 0.3 Å are approximately 55% of all C IV systems with W > 0.15 Å, but by z ≃ 4 that percentage is less than 37%. Similar conclusions were reached by Sargent, Boksenberg, & Steidel and by Steidel, primarily at lower redshifts. However, we measure approximately twice the density of C IV systems at 2.3 0.15 Å that was reported by Steidel. The probability that our sample and previous samples come from the same distribution is only ~2%. But this could be a statistical accident because it is an a posteriori comparison. We believe that the systems that we report are real, and we have no other explanation for this difference. For Si IV absorption lines, there is a 1 σ hint of evolution with the same sense. In contrast, Lyα and Mg II systems are known to show evolution of the opposite sense with more absorbers at larger redshifts. The physical cause of this difference may be a mixture of ionization and chemical evolution effects

    Thanatophoric dysplasia: case report of an autopsy complemented by postmortem computed tomographic study

    Thanatophoric dysplasia (TD) is one of the most common lethal skeletal dysplasias, which was first designated as thanatophoric dwarfism and described in 1967. The authors report a case of a Caucasian girl with TD, born to a 31-year-old woman without comorbidities. The newborn presented respiratory distress immediately after delivery, progressing to death in less than 2 hours. An autopsy was carried out after postmortem tomographic examination. The autopsy findings depicted extensive malformations of the skeletal system and the brain. The aim of this report is to discuss the pathogenesis and correlate the morphologic features of TD that were disclosed at the tomography and the autopsy

    Pediatric minor head trauma: do cranial CT scans change the therapeutic approach?

    OBJECTIVES: 1) To verify clinical signs correlated with appropriate cranial computed tomography scan indications and changes in the therapeutic approach in pediatric minor head trauma scenarios. 2) To estimate the radiation exposure of computed tomography scans with low dose protocols in the context of trauma and the additional associated risk. METHODS: Investigators reviewed the medical records of all children with minor head trauma, which was defined as a Glasgow coma scale ≥13 at the time of admission to the emergency room, who underwent computed tomography scans during the years of 2013 and 2014. A change in the therapeutic approach was defined as a neurosurgical intervention performed within 30 days, hospitalization, >;12 hours of observation, or neuro-specialist evaluation. RESULTS: Of the 1006 children evaluated, 101 showed some abnormality on head computed tomography scans, including 49 who were hospitalized, 16 who remained under observation and 36 who were dismissed. No patient underwent neurosurgery. No statistically significant relationship was observed between patient age, time between trauma and admission, or signs/symptoms related to trauma and abnormal imaging results. A statistically significant relationship between abnormal image results and a fall higher than 1.0 meter was observed (p=0.044). The mean effective dose was 2.0 mSv (0.1 to 6.8 mSv), corresponding to an estimated additional cancer risk of 0.05%. CONCLUSION: A computed tomography scan after minor head injury in pediatric patients did not show clinically relevant abnormalities that could lead to neurosurgical indications. Patients who fell more than 1.0 m were more likely to have changes in imaging tests, although these changes did not require neurosurgical intervention; therefore, the use of computed tomography scans may be questioned in this group. The results support the trend of more careful indications for cranial computed tomography scans for children with minor head trauma

    Interplay of a non-conjugative integrative element and a conjugative plasmid in the spread of antibiotic resistance via suicidal plasmid transfer from an aquaculture Vibrio isolate

    The capture of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) by mobile genetic elements (MGEs) plays a critical role in resistance acquisition for human-associated bacteria. Although aquaculture environments are recognized as important reservoirs of ARGs, intra- and intercellular mobility of MGEs discovered in marine organisms is poorly characterized. Here, we show a new pattern of interspecies ARGs transfer involving a ‘non-conjugative’ integrative element. To identify active MGEs in a Vibrio ponticus isolate, we conducted whole-genome sequencing of a transconjugant obtained by mating between Escherichia coli and Vibrio ponticus. This revealed integration of a plasmid (designated pSEA1) into the chromosome, consisting of a self-transmissible plasmid backbone of the MOBH group, ARGs, and a 13.8-kb integrative element Tn6283. Molecular genetics analysis suggested a two-step gene transfer model. First, Tn6283 integrates into the recipient chromosome during suicidal plasmid transfer, followed by homologous recombination between the Tn6283 copy in the chromosome and that in the newly transferred pSEA1. Tn6283 is unusual among integrative elements in that it apparently does not encode transfer function and its excision barely generates unoccupied donor sites. Thus, its movement is analogous to the transposition of insertion sequences rather than to that of canonical integrative and conjugative elements.
