    Circadian Regulation of Adult Stem Cell Homeostasis and Aging

    The circadian clock temporally organizes cellular physiology throughout the day, allowing daily environmental changes to be anticipated and potentially harmful physiologic processes to be temporally separated. By synchronizing all cells at the tissue level, the circadian clock ensures coherent temporal organismal physiology. Recent advances in our understanding of adult stem cell physiology suggest that aging and perturbations in circadian rhythmicity in stem cells are tightly intertwined. Here we discuss how circadian rhythms regulate and synchronize adult stem cell functions and how alterations in clock function during aging modulate the extrinsic and intrinsic mechanisms that determine adult stem cell homeostasis

Chapter 1 investigates the fate of R&D and innovation in the creative industries and in the broader Telecom Media and Technology sectors. Chapter 2 summarizes past studies on innovation in distinct media and content industries (videogames, music recording and newspapers publishing) and draws some lessons from them. Chapter 3 delves more deeply into the specific case of cinema. This chapter investigates the film industry's complex and evolving relationship with technologies and technological inventions. Chapter 4 offers a short cross-comparison with R&D in the book publishing industry. Chapter 5 deals with policy issues triggered by the observed digital changes.     Actos de disposición de bienes sociales por un solo cónyuge

    En nuestro sistema jurídico hay diversos problemas que resolver, lo que se ha tratado en esta investigación es uno de ellos, se basó en las disposiciones que hace un cónyuge sobre bienes sociales sin la intervención del otro cónyuge, pues bien, se ha partido cuando en un matrimonio rige la sociedad de gananciales y por ende los cónyuges han debido de actuar de manera conjunta para disponer o gravar bienes sociales, pero ellos omitieron seguir esta regla. Esta situación ha traído conflictos en la jurisprudencia nacional, ya que el acto arbitrario de disposición unilateral de un bien social no tiene una sanción específica, habiendo optado algunos magistrados por sancionar estos actos con la nulidad y otros con la ineficacia. Para obtener este resultado hemos recopilado sentencias en casación del año 2012 al año 2014, y se han seleccionado las que aporten al desarrollo de la investigación, también se han realizado entrevistas a conocedores del Derecho con experiencia en este ámbito. Habiéndose llegado a las conclusiones que existen diferentes criterios para la interpretación de la inobservancia al Art. 315 del Código Civil, y que no hay una sanción uniforme la cual deban seguir los magistrados generando incertidumbre para las partes en un proceso así como también para los abogados defensores

    Multidimensional profile of empathy in students of the degree in criminology of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León.

    El concepto de la empatía y su relación con las profesiones en las que se brinda un servicio a un usuario en crisis ha sido ampliamente estudiado. A este respecto la criminología, es una de ellas, puesto que trabaja con personas que han estado implicadas en algún delito, por lo que se ha de tomar en consideración, además de la preparación académica, las aptitudes y las actitudes de las personas que proveerán el servicio directo. Se debe entonces establecer un perfil claro al respecto de la empatía, basada en el modelo multidimensional de ésta. Por ello el objetivo del presente artículo es evaluar el perfil multidimensional de empatía que presentan los y las estudiantes de la licenciatura en criminología, de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL). La muestra del estudio se conformó con las y los estudiantes de los diferentes semestres incluidos en el turno piloto de la Facultad de Derecho y Criminología UANL (N=162), se aplicó el Test de Empatía Cognitiva y Afectiva (TECA). Se concluyó que el perfil multidimensional de la empatía de los y las estudiantes de criminología, se caracteriza por puntuaciones significativamente más bajas a las deseables, cuestión que nos hace reflexionar sobre la inclusión de contenidos de corte aptitudinal en los programas de formación integral, incidiendo en la formación y el desarrollo personal como un elemento que garantice el adecuado desempeño profesional futuro

    SMALL AND MEDIUM PORTS' ACTIVITIES MODELLING: INTRODUCTION TO THE PIXEL APPROACH

    [EN] Port activities undeniably have an impact on their environment, the city and citizens living nearby. To have a better understanding of these impacts, the ports of the future will require tools allowing suitable modelling, simulation and data analysis. This challenge is also tied to another current reality: the heterogeneous data coming from different stakeholders converging into ports are not optimally exploited due to lack of interoperability. Thus, the forthcoming research and development initiatives must address these demands from a holistic point of view. PIXEL (H2020-funded project) aims at creating the first smart, flexible and scalable solution reducing the environmental impact while enabling optimization of operations in port ecosystems. PIXEL brings the most innovative IoT and ICT technology to ports and demonstrate their capacity to take advantage of modern approaches. Using an interoperable open IoT platform, data is acquired and integrated into an information hub comprised of small, low-level sensors up to virtual sensors able to extract relevant data from high level services. Finally, this hub integrates smart models to analyse port processes for prediction and optimization purposes: (i) a model of consumption and energy production of the port with the aim of moving towards green energy production; (ii) a model of congestion of multi-modal transport networks to reduce the impact of port traffic on the network; and (iii) models of environmental pollution of the port to reduce the environmental impacts of the port on the city and its citizens. The main issue tackled by PIXEL is to provide interoperability between these models and allow real integration and communication in the context of an environmental management model.     In-situ TEM investigation of nano-scale helium bubble evolution in tantalum-doped tungsten at 800 °C

    The aim of this work is to probe the helium-induced defect production and accumulation in 40 keV He+ irradiated polycrystalline W and its alternative alloy W-5wt.%Ta using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) combined with in-situ helium irradiation at 800°С. A maximum damage level of 1 dpa with a maximum He-to-dpa ratio of 5.5 at%/dpa has been reached in this work for both materials, which corresponds to an ion fluence of 7.33 × 1016 He+/cm2. The presence of radiation-induced dislocation loops was not observed at this temperature. The low density of the incipient bubbles in W has been already detected at 0.004 dpa, which corresponds to a fluence of 3.3 × 1014He+/cm2. The experiments conducted at 800°C have shown that the addition of 5wt.% of tantalum into tungsten may diminish the binding of He ions with vacancies into complexes, which serve as the core of the bubble, thus hindering helium bubble formation below 0.02 dpa and their further growth and population at higher damage levels. By exceeding the damage dose ≥0.3 dpa, a progressive transition from a spherical to a faceted shape of the bubbles has been observed in W but not in the W-5Ta alloy. At 1 dpa, &gt;80% of the bubbles in W were of the faceted type with the facet planes of {110}.</p

    High-capacity 5G fronthaul networks based on optical space division multiplexing

    \u3cp\u3eThe introduction of 5G mobile networks, bringing multi-Gbit/s user data rates and reduced latency, opens new opportunities for media generation, transport and distribution, as well as for new immersive media applications. The expected use of millimeter-wave carriers and the strong network densification resulting from a much reduced cell size--which enable the expected performance of 5G--pose major challenges to the fronthaul network. Space division multiplexing (SDM) in the optical domain has been suggested for ultra-high capacity fronthaul networks that naturally support different classes of fronthaul traffic and further enable the use of analog radio-over-fiber and advanced technologies, such as optical beamforming. This paper discusses the introduction of SDM with multi-core fibers in the fronthaul network as suggested by the blueSPACE project, regarding both digitized and analog radio-over-fiber fronthaul transport as well as the introduction of optical beamforming for high-capacity millimeter-wave radio access. Analog and digitized radio-over-fiber are discussed in a scenario featuring parallel fronthaul for different radio access technologies, showcasing their differences and potential when combined with SDM.\u3c/p\u3

    Evaluation of immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects and phytochemical screening of Alternanthera tenella Colla (Amaranthaceae) aqueous extracts

    Alternanthera tenella Colla extracts are used in Brazilian traditional folk medicine to treat a variety of infectious diseases as well as inflammation and fever. In this work, the immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory and potential toxic effects of cold (CAE) and hot (HAE) aqueous extracts of A. tenella were investigated in vivo. In addition, we analyzed the phytochemical properties of both extracts. BALB/c mice were immunized in vivo with sheep red blood cells and concomitantly inoculated intraperitoneally (i.p.) with each extract (50, 100 or 200 mg/kg). Specific antibody-producing cells were enumerated using plaque-forming cell assays (PFC) and anti-SRBC IgG and IgM serum levels were measured via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Body and lymphoid organ weights were determined after treatments in order to evaluate toxic effects. Carrageenan-induced paw edema was employed to investigate anti-inflammatory activity in mice inoculated i.p. with CAE or HAE (200 or 400 mg/kg). Phytochemical screening was performed using spectrometric and chromatographic approaches and revealed that CAE possessed higher tannin and flavonoid levels than HAE. PFC numbers were increased after treatment with CAE (100 mg/kg) four days after immunization, as were the serum antibody titers after four and seven days, suggesting immunostimulatory activity through modulation of B lymphocyte functions. Body and organ weights did not show major changes, suggesting that extracts administered to mice did not induce significant toxicity. Both extracts had significant anti-inflammatory activity in the paw edema assay. These results suggested that aqueous extracts from A. tenella contained several chemical compounds that possess positive and/or negative modulator effects on the immune system, which appeared to correlate with tannin and flavonoid levels in those extracts.     Combined collision-induced dissociation and photo-selected reaction monitoring mass spectrometry modes for simultaneous analysis of coagulation factors and estrogens

    AbstractOral estrogens are directly associated with changes in plasma levels of coagulation proteins. Thus, the detection of any variation in protein concentrations due to estrogen contraceptives, by a simultaneous analysis of both coagulation proteins and estrogens, would be a very informative tool. In the present study, the merit of photo-selected reaction monitoring (SRM), a new analytical tool, was evaluated towards estrogens detection in plasma. Then, SRM and photo-SRM detection modes were combined for the simultaneous analysis of estrogen molecules together with heparin co-factor and factor XIIa, two proteins involved in the coagulation cascade.
