Purpose: Leadership is one of the main topics in organizational behavior. Over the years, many researchers have studied the impact of different leadership styles on the attitudes and behaviors of employees. However, perhaps because it is a relatively recent construct, little research has been devoted to analyzing the effect that responsible leadership has at the individual level of analysis (Haque et al., 2019, 2020; Miska & Mendenhall, 2018). Starting from the identification of this gap, the present research adopted an employee-centered approach to analyze how responsible leadership is related to individual creativity within the scope of a model that proposes affective commitment as a potential mediating mechanism. Recent research has found empirical support for the existence of a direct positive relationship between the variables (Castro-González et al., 2019). Research has also established a positive relationship between responsible leadership and affective commitment (Haque et al. 2019, 2020; Mousa, 2017; Simões & Duarte, 2021). Several studies on positive leadership styles have established affective commitment as a relevant mediating variable between leadership and employees’ attitudinal, emotional, and behavioral responses (Asif et al., 2019; Duarte et al., 2021). It is possible to theorize that responsible leadership, being also a positive leadership style, will find similar results, contributing to a greater employee emotional attachment to the organization, which will lead to more individual creativity behaviors at work.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This study analyzed how responsible leadership explains individual creativity through the mediation of affective commitment. Responsible leadership confers importance to value creation, change and sustainable development, as well as allowing to experiment with new ideas, thus creating a work environment conducive to creativity (Castro-González et al., 2019). In addition, responsible leadership contributes to employees having positive work experiences, thus promoting the strengthening of the emotional attachment to the organization (Haque et al., 2018; Simões & Duarte, 2021), which has been associated with greater individual creativity (Ribeiro et al., 2020). As a way of testing the proposed research model, a cross-sectional correlational quantitative methodology was used, based on a questionnaire to workers (n=284). Data were analyzed using the PROCESS macro. The results are in agreement with the literature and reveal a positive and significant direct relationship between responsible leadership and individual creativity. They also point to a significant partial mediation by affective commitment, that is, affective commitment significantly mediates the relationship between responsible leadership and employee creativity. We can conclude that affective commitment presents itself as a psychosocial mechanism that helps to explain the relationship between responsible leadership and creativity, which is one of the main contributions of this investigation, since, to our knowledge, there are no studies that integrate these variables in the same model. Therefore, responsible leadership, together with affective commitment, can favor a positive work environment, contributing to the promotion of individual behaviors at work, such as creativity.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Spatial accessibility and social inclusion: The impact of Portugal's last health reform

Health policies seek to promote access to health care and should provide appropriate geographical accessibility to each demographical functional group. The dispersal demand of health‐careservices and the provision for such services atfixed locations contribute to the growth of inequality intheir access. Therefore, the optimal distribution of health facilities over the space/area can lead toaccessibility improvements and to the mitigation of the social exclusion of the groups considered mostvulnerable. Requiring for such, the use of planning practices joined with accessibility measures. However, the capacities of Geographic Information Systems in determining and evaluating spatial accessibility inhealth system planning have not yet been fully exploited. This paper focuses on health‐care services planningbased on accessibility measures grounded on the network analysis. The case study hinges on mainlandPortugal. Different scenarios were developed to measure and compare impact on the population'saccessibility. It distinguishes itself from other studies of accessibility measures by integrating network data ina spatial accessibility measure: the enhanced two‐stepfloating catchment area. The convenient location forhealth‐care facilities can increase the accessibility standards of the population and consequently reducethe economic and social costs incurred. Recently, the Portuguese government implemented a reform thataimed to improve, namely, the access and equity in meeting with the most urgent patients. It envisaged,in terms of equity, the allocation of 89 emergency network points that ensured more than 90% of thepopulation be within 30 min from any one point in the network. Consequently, several emergency serviceswere closed, namely, in rural areas. This reform highlighted the need to improve the quality of the emergencycare, accessibility to each care facility, and equity in their access. Hence, accessibility measures becomean efficient decision‐making tool, despite its absence in effective practice planning. According to anapplication of this type of measure, it was possible to verify which levels of accessibility were decreased, including the most disadvantaged people, with a larger time of dislocation of 12 min between 2001 and 2011

Optimal signal timing signalized intersection by global optimization (OPT-I)

Accurate measurements of signal control parameters at signalized intersections are very important for designing and operating traffic control systems. In this work, a queuing system has been modelled as a result from the characterization of the vehicles behaviour approaching and passing of a signalized intersection. This intersection is part of a network of urban traffic and two problems are formulated, distinguished by the type of control used: pretimed, semi-actuated or fully-actuated. Subsequently global optimization and complementarity can be used to determine the parameters of the control signal. This formulation includes the green times and cycle lengths that minimize the total waiting time of vehicles at the intersection. At intersections regulated by actuated control, this methodology allows us to estimate the effective green time in actuated streams as well as the length of each cycle. It should be noted that the duration of departure of vehicles when signal is green or yellow is constant. The vehicles arrivals are random, following a Poisson probability distribution. The models in question were formulated as linear programs with linear complementarity constraints (LPLCC). In the present study, the Sequential Linear Complementarity Algorithm (SLCP) was also analysed to calculate the global minimum for the LPLCC. Furthermore, several scenarios of traffic intersections are created to demonstrate the method's efficiency, particularly to verify the accuracy of the solutions of the problems

Hypokalaemic periodic paralysis: a rare cause of tetraparesis in european people

A terapêutica precoce do hipertiroidismo é imprescindível

Lycopene is a carotenoid responsible for the red color of several fruits, namely tomato, whose antioxidant and photoprotective effects have been studied. Methods: Lycopene-enriched extracts (LEE) were obtained from tomato waste using supercritical CO2 extraction, incorporated in microemulsions and macroemulsions for topical use, and characterized through GC-MS for the identification of volatile compounds. The aim of this work was to evaluate the impact of the presence of lycopene-enriched extracts developed emulsions through the identification of volatile compounds and by a sensory analysis to assess the odor and color perception and the acceptability of such semi-solid systems as cosmetic products. Results: Volatile compounds were identified in the extract and in the formulations containing the extract. Preliminary data show that the odor of both LEE-loaded microemulsions and LEE-loaded macroemulsions was classified as undefined. The information about the composition did not modify the odor perception but increased the acceptability of some cosmetic products. LEE conferred a yellowish color to formulations, and the information about the formulation composition increased the likelihood of different cosmetic products with this color being bought. Conclusions: The commercialization of personal care products does not only dependent on the associated organoleptic properties, but is influenced by the information about the composition, namely by the presence of an antioxidant compound.publishersversionpublishe
