Neuroprotective Effects of Betulinic Acid Hydroxamate in Intraventricular Hemorrhage-Induced Brain Damage in Immature Rats
Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is an important cause of long-term disability in extremely preterm infants, with no current treatment. We aimed to study in an IVH model in immature rats the neuroprotective effect of betulinic acid hydroxamate (BAH), a B55α/PP2A activator that inhibits the activity of the hypoxia-inducing factor prolyl-hydroxylase type 2. IVH was induced in 1-day-old (P1) Wistar rats by the left periventricular injection of Clostridial collagenase. Then, pups received i.p. vehicle or BAH 3 mg/kg single dose. At P6, P14 and P45, brain damage (area of damage, neurobehavioral deficits, Lactate/N-acetylaspartate ratio), white matter injury (WMI: corpus callosum atrophy and myelin basic protein signal reduction) and inflammation (TLR4, NF-κB and TNFα expression), excitotoxicity (Glutamate/N-acetylspartate) and oxidative stress (protein nitrosylation) were evaluated. BAH treatment did not reduce the volume of brain damage, but it did reduce perilesional tissue damage, preventing an IVH-induced increase in Lac/NAA. BAH restored neurobehavioral performance at P45 preventing WMI. BAH prevented an IVH-induced increase in inflammation, excitotoxicity and oxidative stress. In conclusion, in immature rats, BAH reduced IVH-induced brain damage and prevented its long-term functional consequences, preserving normal myelination in a manner related to the modulation of inflammation, excitotoxicity and oxidative stress
Anti-fat bias in secondary school teachers: Are physical education teachers more biased than mathematics teachers?
t has been suggested that physical education (PE) teachers hold strong anti-fat attitudes and thatthese can have an impact on the health of their students. In this study, we compare the attitudesand stereotypes towards obesity of PE teachers with those of their colleagues who teachmathematics. In addition, we evaluated the association between the teachers’ anti-fat biases andthe level of physical activity (PA) of their students. The sample consisted of 81 PE teachers and 75mathematics teachers. The adolescent sample consisted of 1792 secondary school students. Theassessment of attitudes and stereotypes was conducted with the Implicit Association Test and theAnti-Fat Attitudes questionnaire. The PA level of the adolescents was determined by a self-administered instrument. PE and mathematics teachers showed similar biases, except for theautomatic obesity–laziness association, which was stronger for PE teachers than for mathematicsteachers. These distinctive implicit stereotypes of PE teachers were also significant predictors ofthe lack of PA in adolescents. We recommend the use of interventions aimed at reducing non-traditional forms of prejudice in teachers

Percepciones institucionales de los estudiantes de Pedagogía en Educación Física de Chile (Institutional perceptions of Physical Education Pedagogy students from Chile)
Conocer la percepción institucional de los agentes que componen una comunidad resulta relevante para mejorar los servicios educativos que se prestan, además permiten instaurar mecanismos de seguimiento, control e innovación dentro de las universidades para lograr una mejora continua. El objetivo de la presente investigación fue determinar la percepción institucional de los estudiantes de Pedagogía en Educación Física de Chile. Se aplicó la escala de percepción hacia la carrera educación física a 908 estudiantes, de los cuales 317 eran mujeres (34.9%) y 591 hombres (65.1%). El promedio de edad fue de 20.1±2.4 y 359 eran de primer año, 316 de segundo y 233 de tercer año de diferentes instituciones de educación superior de Chile. Se encontraron diferencias significativas al comparar las universidades privadas con las públicas (percepción favorable hacia las instituciones privadas) en la gestión universitaria (p=.000) y protestas estudiantiles (p=.000); por otro lado, también se puede enfatizar que los estudiantes perciben que les hace falta conocer técnicas de estudio, sobre todo los alumnos provenientes de colegios municipales (p=.049) en relación con los establecimientos particulares. Se concluye que la percepción institucional de los estudiantes de pedagogía en educación física que tiene mayor relevancia es la gestión académica. Son necesarias futuras investigaciones con otras variables y de corte longitudinal.
Abstract. Knowing the institutional perception of the agents building up a community is important to improve educational services provided, and allows for the establishment of monitoring, control, and innovation mechanisms within universities to achieve continuous improvement. The objective of this research was to determine the institutional perception of students of Pedagogy in Physical Education from Chile. A total of908 students (317 women [34.9%]; and 591 men [65.1%]) with average age of 20.1±2.4 years old, enrolled in first-year (359), second year (316), and third year (233) at different higher education institutions in Chile filled the Perception of Physical Education Degree Scale.Results: Significant differences were found comparing private and public universities (private institutions showing more favorable perceptions) in university management (p=.000) and students' protests (p=.000); on the other hand, it can also be emphasized that students perceive that they need to know study techniques, especially students from municipal schools (p=.049) in relation to private institutions.As a conclusion, the most relevant institutional perception of students of pedagogy in physical education regards academic management. Future research with other variables and longitudinal character is necessary
Rede de Aerobiologia da Extremadura
The development of aerobiological networks in Spain has been made at the level of the autonomous communities. In Extremadura the sampling is conducted by the University of Extremadura. It began in 1993 with a station in Badajoz (BA). Two towns have had sampling on a temporary basis: Cáceres (CC 1996-2001) and Merida (ME 1996-1998). Currently there are 3 more sampling stations, which have been running since 2011: Plasencia (PL), Don Benito (DB) and Zafra (ZA), and CC again recently. The Annual Pollen Index (annual daily amounts) has shown an average of more than 50.000 pollen grains/m3 (23.532-92.655). In Badajoz (23 years) the results show a downward trend. The maximum daily concentration peaks were reached in 1997, with values of 6.102 grains/ m3 (CC 21/3) and 5.041 grains/m3 (BA 23/3). The five most important pollen types represent 78% of all the pollen registered. Their importance varies from one station to another. Quercus, Poaceae, Olea, Cupressaceae and Platanus, in this order, are the most abundant pollen types in all stations, except Platanus, which is the second most abundant in DB, and Olea, which is second in ZA. The data have been available on the research group’s website (www.aerouex.es) since 2006, and the record of visitors to the site shows a signi cant correlation with the concentration of pollen. Extremadura stands out for its high pollen concentrations of Poaceae and Quercus, due to its wide expanses of oak and cork trees. Pollen from ornamental sources –Cupressaceae and Platanus— shows a strong dependence on their abundance and distribution.El desarrollo de redes aerobiológicas en España se ha realizado a nivel de las comunidades autónomas. En Extremadura el muestreo llevado a cabo por la Universidad de Extremadura comenzó en 1993 con la estación de Badajoz (BA). The Research Journey as a Challenge Towards New Trends
The academic community of the department of Risaralda, in its permanent interest in evidencing the results of the research processes that are carried out from the Higher Education Institutions and as a product of the VI meeting of researchers of the department of Risaralda held in November 2021 presents its work: “The journey of research as a challenge towards new trends”, which reflects the result of the latest research and advances in different lines of knowledge in Agricultural Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Technology and Information Sciences, which seek to solve and meet the demands of the different sectors.

Safety and immunomodulatory effects of three probiotic strains isolated from the feces of breast-fed infants in healthy adults: SETOPROB study
We previously described the isolation and characterization of three probiotic strains from the feces of exclusively breast-fed newborn infants: Lactobacillus paracasei CNCM I-4034, Bifidobacterium breve CNCM I-4035 and Lactobacillus rhamnosus CNCM I-4036. These strains were shown to adhere to intestinal mucus in vitro, to be sensitive to antibiotics and to resist biliary salts and low pH. In the present study, a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with 100 healthy volunteers in three Spanish cities was carried out to evaluate the tolerance, safety, gut colonization and immunomodulatory effects of these three probiotics. Volunteers underwent a 15-day washout period, after which they were randomly divided into 5 groups that received daily a placebo, a capsule containing one of the 3 strains or a capsule containing a mixture of two strains for 30 days. The intervention was followed by another 15-day washout period. Patients did not consume fermented milk for the entire duration of the study. Gastrointestinal symptoms, defecation frequency and stool consistency were not altered by probiotic intake. No relevant changes in blood and serum, as well as no adverse events occurred during or after treatment. Probiotic administration slightly modified bacterial populations in the volunteers’ feces. Intestinal persistence occurred in volunteers who received L. rhamnosus CNCM I-4036. Administration of B. breve CNCM I-4035 resulted in a significant increase in fecal secretory IgA content. IL-4 and IL-10 increased, whereas IL-12 decreased in the serum of volunteers treated with any of the three strains. These results demonstrate that the consumption of these three bacterial strains was safe and exerted varying degrees of immunomodulatory effects.Part of the research currently in progress in the authors' laboratory is funded by the company Hero Spain, S. Outcome of liver cancer patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection: An International, Multicentre, Cohort Study
Background & aims: Information about the impact of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in patients with liver cancer is lacking. This study characterizes the outcomes and mortality risk in this population.
Methods: Multicentre retrospective, cross-sectional, international study of liver cancer patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection registered between February and December 2020. Clinical data at SARS-CoV-2 diagnosis and outcomes were registered.
Results: Two hundred fifty patients from 38 centres were included, 218 with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and 32 with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA). The median age was 66.5 and 64.5 years, and 84.9% and 21.9% had cirrhosis in the HCC and iCCA cohorts respectively. Patients had advanced cancer stage at SARS-CoV-2 diagnosis in 39.0% of the HCC and 71.9% of the iCCA patients. After a median follow-up of 7.20 (IQR: 1.84-11.24) months, 100 (40%) patients have died, 48% of the deaths were SARS-CoV-2-related. Forty (18.4%) HCC patients died within 30-days. The death rate increase was significantly different according to the BCLC stage (6.10% [95% CI 2.24-12.74], 11.76% [95% CI 4.73-22.30], 20.69% [95% CI 11.35-31.96] and 34.52% [95% CI 17.03-52.78] for BCLC 0/A, B, C and D, respectively; p = .0017). The hazard ratio was 1.45 (95% CI 0.49-4.31; p = .5032) in BCLC-B versus 0/A, and 3.13 (95% CI 1.29-7.62; p = .0118) in BCLC-C versus 0/A in the competing risk Cox regression model. Nineteen out of 32 iCCA (59.4%) died, and 12 deaths were related to SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Conclusions: This is the largest cohort of liver cancer patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. It characterizes the 30-day mortality risk of SARS-CoV-2 infected patients with HCC during this period

representa el inicio de un camino que esperamos
derive en la formación posgradual en
niveles superiores de nuestros investigadores y
aporte a la comprensión de la comunicación digital
en este mundo globalizado.
Desde una perspectiva amplia de la producción
académica, la investigación se entiende como
una mixtura de enfoques (cualitativo y cuantitativo),
incluyendo los emergentes, además de
variadas estrategias de recolección de información
que resultan coherentes con los intereses
investigativos del programa y los objetivos
propuestos en la ruta de fortalecimento académico,
para la articulación adecuada entre la
formación y el desarrollo de propuestas científicas.
