Constraints in the design of activities focusing on emotion recognition for children with ASD using robotic tools
Robótica-Autismo project, presented in this
paper, aims to identify the main aspects to be considered when
working with robots and children with ASD (Autism Spectrum
Disorders). Several constraints are identified such as the type of
robot, the type of skills that should be developed, the criteria of
inclusion and exclusion in the target group, which proceedings
should be followed during the sessions and how to analyze the
obtained results. In the end, a well-established methodology is
achieved in order to accomplish the goal of using a robot as a
mediator between children with ASD and other human
partners. The authors are grateful to the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, FCT - Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia, for funding through the R& D project reference RIPD/ADAlI09407/2009 and the scholarship SFRHIBD/71600/2010.
This paper discusses the post-custodial paradigm in Archivistics, present some epistemological changes in the scientific field of the area resulting from the paradigm shift. Afterwards, describes the paradigms that surround Archivistics, the custodial and post-custodial and their characteristics. Then brings the approaches related to post-custodial paradigm, its epistemological positions about the scientific object. Finally, it discusses the interdisciplinary relationship of Archivistics with the Information Science
Pathological and epidemiological characterization of first outbreak of daylily rust in Europe and evaluation of Puccinia hemerocallidis resistance in Hemerocallis cultivars
Daylily rust—caused by Puccinia hemerocallidis—was confined to Eastern Asia until
the disease was reported in Oceania, Africa, the Americas and Portugal in the 21st century.
Although information on rust resistance of American cultivars is available, little is known about
the resistance of European bred cultivars, threating the ornamental sector if the fungus spreads to
other European countries. Aiming to provide tools to address this, we analyzed the Portuguese
pathogens and characterized rust resistance in a selection of cultivars, while optimizing disease
rating scales. Morphologic, genetic and cytogenomic characterization of four isolates reveals narrow
diversity and raises the question whether the pathogen may have originated in North- or Central
America. Daily records of multiple symptomatologic parameters enabled a detailed disease progress
analysis, discriminating cultivars according to their resistance levels and revealing susceptibility as
the most common state. Among the tested cultivars, 12 out of 17 began to show symptoms between
6–8 dai and were classified as susceptible. Cultivars ‘Stella d’Oro’, ‘Bitsy’ and ‘Cherry Tiger’ behaved
as moderately resistant although the occurrence of late sporulation on leaves suggests incomplete
resistance and challenges common rating scales. The identification of resistance sources in European
breeding lines is crucial for the sustainable future of dayliliesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Using a humanoid robot as the promoter of interaction with children in the context of educational games
Society should care about those with special needs. Part of a proper care involves the
development of new technologies and devices aiming at improving their quality of life. Research
conducted at universities on this subject should be followed by the industrial development of
commercial products and governmental institutions may play an important role by establishing
conditions ensuring that the results are made available to those who need them. This paper
presents the details of a system, still at the early stages of research level, aimed at helping children
with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It uses ZECA, a humanoid robot Zeno R-50, acting as the
promoter of the interaction with children, by teaching colours and geometric figures in the context
of two educational game scenarios: identification of five geometric figures and identification of five
colours. So far, the system was tested in a school environment with typically developing children, in
order to validate the experimental setup and the game design. The results obtained in these tests
allowed optimizing the system before starting the work in elementary schools with children with
ASD, which is the next step in the research. The authors also would like to express their

Technology and special educational needs: let's play “Doing Good Deeds!”
“Doing Good Deeds!” is a game directed to children with special needs, in pre and elementary school age that
aims to promote the development of social skills in diferente contexts. Structurally, this game has available a set of Avatars that players can choose to represent them. To adapt the game to each child, an administration module was developed, corresponding to the back office of the game, which allows the educator to create or change contexts, difficulty levels and sequences. This module includes also the visualization of the user performance, in particular the duration of each game, the number of attempts with and without success, allowing the educator to analyze the progress of each player. The authors would like to express their acknowledgments
