    Get PDF
Hypertensive patients  deserve special attention, due to possible complications which may occur during invasive dental care. This manuscript has aimed at reviewing the literature regarding the following:  a safe dental approach to hypertensive patients,  local anesthetics indication, surgical risks, hypertensive crisis, drug interactions, and oral manifestations  of antihypertensive drug use. The present study was developed by research in the following databases: Virtual Health Library (VHL) – Bireme, MEDLINE, PubMed, SciELO, and the  Capes database Journals. For a safe approach to the hypertensive patient, some precautions must be taken and respected, as follows:   adequate anamnesis is crucial to  evaluate  other associated systemic alterations (cardiovascular, diabetes, renal failure),  measure blood pressure at the beginning, and, in case of longer procedures, monitor blood pressure during the intervention, minimize chair time for the sake of  the patient's anxiety. Medication regarding stress reduction control can be used to prevent high blood pressure from emotional conditions as well as choosing the appropriate anesthetic. Solutions with   vasoconstrictor lower concentration, respecting the dose, and following the principles of the anesthetic technique must be observed. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use should be avoided. These precautions will avoid  serious iatrogenic events in addition to promoting and guaranteeing patient safety and quality care

Estudos futuros, como ensaios clínicos, serão necessários para melhor investigação da eficácia do programa.[Abstract] The practice of mindfulness has been shown to be associated with executive functions and Enhanced socioemotional skills in childhood. Despite the potential benefits, however, there are still few structured programs in Brazil that may be implemented in a school context. The aim of this study is to carry out a cultural adaptation of the Kindness Curriculum for Preschoolers, amindfulness-based program designed to improve socioemotional skills among preschoolers, for use in Brazilian public schools. The lessons of the original program were translated and adapted to Brazilian Portuguese and piloted in a Brazilian public school with¡ the participation of 19 children aged 5- years, and their legal guardians and teachers. Feasibility was assessed through qualitative análisis of the verbal reports collected in Meetings with the teachers. The posible impact of the program on emotional regulation skills, empathy, inhibitory control and theory of mind was analyzed using neuropsychological and behavioral assessments of the children before and after the pilot. The results reveal indicators of adequate feasibility of the adapted version, as well as improvement in measures of empathy and inhibitory control. Comparative molecular cytogenetics in Melipona Illiger species (Hymenoptera, Apidae)

    Get PDF
Cytogenetic studies in Melipona are scarce with only 24 species analyzed cytogenetically. Of these, six species had the rDNA sites physically mapped and characterized by Fluorescent in situ Hybridization (fish). The aim of this study was to perform karyotype analyzes on Melipona species from different regions of Brazil, with a greater sampling representative of the Amazonian fauna and using conventional, fluorochrome staining and FISH with heterologous rDNA probes. The predominant chromosome number was 2n = 18, however, the subspecies M. seminigra abunensis and M. s. pernigra showed 2n = 22 chromosomes. The karyotypes were symmetrical, however M. bicolor, M. quadrifasciata, M. flavolineata, M. fuscopilosa, M. nebulosa presented the first pair heteromorphic in length. CMA3+ blocks also exhibited heteromorphism of size and in almost all cases coincided with rDNA sites, except for M. crinita and M. nebulosa, which presented additional non-coincident CMA3+ blocks. The CMA/ rDNA sites were terminal and interstitial in species with high heterochromatic content, and pericentromeric in those species with low heterochromatic content. In addition to pointing out cytogenetic features of cytotaxonomic importance, the reorganization of the genome in Melipona is discussed

Introduction: It has been suggested that cystatin C levels are modified by obesity and inflammation. Furthermore, cystatin C has been associated with cardiovascular events and mortality outcomes. Aim: To study the association of cystatin C with the metabolic profile and cardiovascular disease of peritoneal dialysis patients. Methods: Data collected included clinical, laboratorial, and multifrequency bioimpedance assessment of 52 stable peritoneal dialysis patients. Minimal residual renal function was defined as > 2mL/min/1.73m2. Results: Serum cystatin C was not significantly associated with peritoneal or urinary cystatin C excretion. Negative correlation of cystatin C with normalized protein catabolic rate (rho -0.33, p = 0.02) and a trend towards positive correlation with relative body fat (rho 0.27, p = 0.05) were not independent from residual renal function. Cystatin C was not significantly associated with cardiovascular disease (p = 0.28), nor with glycated hemoglobin (p = 0.19) or c-reactive protein (p = 0.56). In the multivariate model, both age and diabetes were the strongest predictors of cardiovascular disease (odds ratio 1.09, p = 0.029 and odds ratio 29.95, p = 0.016, respectively), while relative body fat was negatively associated with cardiovascular disease (p = 0.038); neither cystatin C (p = 0.096) nor minimal residual renal function (p = 0.756) reached a significant association with cardiovascular disease. Conclusions: In this group of peritoneal dialysis patients, cystatin C did not correlate with the metabolic or inflammatory status, nor cardiovascular disease, after adjustment for residual renal function.

Chromosome spreading of the (TTAGGG)n repeats in the Pipa carvalhoi Miranda-Ribeiro, 1937 (Pipidae, Anura) karyotype

    Get PDF
Pipidae is a clade of Anura that diverged relatively early from other frogs in the phylogeny of the group. Pipids have a unique combination of morphological features, some of which appear to represent a mix of adaptations to aquatic life and plesiomorphic characters of Anura. The present study describes the karyotype of Pipa carvalhoi Miranda-Ribeiro, 1937, including morphology, heterochromatin distribution, and location of the NOR site. The diploid number of P. carvalhoi is 2n=20, including three metacentric pairs (1, 4, 8), two submetacentric (2 and 7), three subtelocentric (3, 5, 6), and two telocentric pairs (9 and 10). C-banding detected centromeric blocks of heterochromatin in all chromosome pairs and the NOR detected in chromosome pair 9, as confirmed by FISH using the rDNA 28S probe. The telomeric probes indicated the presence of interstitial telomeric sequences (ITSs), primarily in the centromeric region of the chromosomes, frequently associated with heterochromatin, suggesting that these repeats are a significant component of this region. The findings of the present study provide important insights for the understanding of the mechanisms of chromosomal evolution in the genus Pipa, and the diversification of the Pipidae as a whole.133297309FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO - FAPESPCOORDENAÇÃO DE APERFEIÇOAMENTO DE PESSOAL DE NÍVEL SUPERIORCONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICO2016/07717-6Sem informação309904/2015-

    Get PDF
Araticum (Annona crassiflora Mart.)

Some infections are directly linked to dental practice, in which dental surgeons are exposed to a wide variety of microorganisms present in patients' oral and body fluids. Biosafety is a multidisciplinary science that emphasizes actions to prevent, reduce or eliminate risks inherent to the activity. The purpose of this literature review is to identify the main forms of transmission of infectious diseases, locate common errors regarding the set of conducts and technical measures employed by dental professionals, describing the complications resulting from failures in the protection mechanisms as well as demonstrating the evolution of biosafety in the last twenty years and its relation to the clinical-dental scope. To carry out this study, 19 scientific articles published between 1999 and 2019 were searched, with the descriptors: Contamination of biological risks; Dentistry; Communicable diseases. Articles in Portuguese and English were filtered in the GOOGLE ACADÊMICO, SCIELO, BIREME, LILACS databases. The results demonstrate the importance of the dentist's knowledge of the risk of cross-contamination, in addition to compliance with biosafety standards in public and private institutions
