Synthesis of molybdenum oxide nanoparticles by nanosecond laser ablation
Phothermal therapy (PTT) is one of the most promising techniques to treat cancer. Finding the ideal PTT agent nanomaterial has remained a challenge and has brought the interest of several researchers. In this work, we report the synthesis of molybdenum oxide (MoOx) nanoparticles (NPs), which exhibit absorption in the biological optical window ~840 nm, by using the laser ablation of solids in liquids (LASL) technique with nanosecond (ns) pulses. A Nd:YAG laser was used to synthesize the NPs in deionized (DI) water, free of surfactants or additives, which were optically characterized by absorption spectroscopy and TEM-EDX microscopy. Semi spherical NPs with a suitable average size and shape for potential use as PTT agents were obtained by laser ablation and ablation + fragmentation. The calculated band gap is 3.1 eV, which corresponds to MoO3. Micro-Raman spectroscopy studies determined that these NPs are composed of amorphous molybdenum oxide hydrates (MoO3 · xH2O)
Application of the “Footprint Family” for the environmental evaluation of public buildings in Spain. case study: educational center
Within the commitments of the 2030 Agenda, the socio-economic objectives for a sustainable development of society as a whole, stand out, which propose minimizing the impact produced by all the activities of the Public Administration on the environment. Therefore, the creation and retrofitting of its infrastructures, needed for its operation and the services it provides, has a great impact. The goal of this work focuses on a methodological adaptation for the environmental evaluation of the works promoted by public organizations, quantifying and locating the sources of impact with the purpose of taking the measures to minimize them. For this, the footprint family, ecological, carbon, and water, are proposed as indicators, characterized by the simplicity of their message and the ease of their implementation in the construction sector, by controlling project costs. A case study is presented, the construction of an early childhood education center in the city of Madrid, for which the data needed for the calculation are presented and analyzed. The results reflect interesting information in terms of footprints, on the elements that must be controlled and improved in the project design, such as concrete and steel.
Applications of data science in policing: VeriPol as an investigation support tool
Data Science is an interdisciplinary field involving the development of processes and systems to extract knowledge and understanding from data in different formats and from different sources. Considering the large amount of data generated and managed by public safety agencies, Data Science applications in the police sector are numerous. More important are the advantages that the different applications of Data Science could provide the police on issues such as the optimization of resources, the increase of efficiency and effectiveness, the modernization and its exemplariness when compared with other institutions. In this paper we present different potential applications fields of Data Science for the police. In addition, we focus on the case of VeriPol, a tool for automatic detection of false violent robbery reports, currently under development by the Spanish National Police. In particular, we illustrate a detailed analysis of the results of a recent pilot study aimed at assessing the effectiveness of the tool
Characterization of nanostructured SnO2 films deposited by reactive DC-magnetron sputtering
Nanostructured tin oxide thin films were deposited on silicon and glass slides substrates by reactive DC-Magnetron sputtering using a tin target in a mixture of argon and oxygen gases. The substrate temperature was varied in the range from 53 to 243 oC, keeping the other deposition parameters constant. The tin oxide films were characterized by: Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive Spectrometry, X Ray Diffraction, microRaman spectroscopy and UV-VIS spectroscopy. It was found that the substrate temperature has an effect mainly on the structural, morphological and optical properties of the thin films. At 53 and 90 oC the tetragonal crystalline phase was obtained while a mixture of crystalline phases (o-SnO2 and t-SnO2) was obtained at 148, 185 and 243 oC

Structural performance of steel-concrete sandwich beams with carbon nanofiber reinforcement
Cementitious materials such as concrete are typically characterised as quasi-brittle with low tensile strength and low strain capacity, which hence affect the long-term durability of the structure. One of the most important issues in designing and maintaining massive concrete structures like offshore and nuclear power plants is concrete cracking, which is due to the low tensile strength of concrete. This can destroy the structural aesthetic and lead to deterioration of the structure.
The addition of fibers to concrete has been proven to be a good mean to control its crack behaviour and maintain its ductility in tension. Further, since the discovery of carbon nanotubes/fibers (CNT/CNF), they have been also considered as efficient fibers for construction materials such as concrete.
This study presents the structural performance of steel-concrete (SC) elements with a fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) core using both single and hybrid fibers (i.e. consisting of two types of fibers). For this study carbon nanofibers, and steel fibers which are conventionally used in practice, are used for the FRC. Static tests were conducted on eight SC beams with different concrete types. The paper reports on the experimental results obtained from four-point flexural loading of the SC beams. The study shows considerable improvement for both the strength and ductility of the tested specimens. The research laid the groundwork for additional in-depth studies on using carbon nanofiber reinforced concrete within structural members
This research work proposed as objective to determine if there is a relationship between the labor inclusion of people with disabilities and the corporate image of Heladería Holanda S.R.L. of Cajamarca in the second semester of 2019.

Gravity or turbulence? -III. Evidence of pure thermal Jeans fragmentation at ~0.1 pc scale
We combine previously published interferometric and single-dish data of
relatively nearby massive dense cores that are actively forming stars to test
whether their `fragmentation level' is controlled by turbulent or thermal
support. We find no clear correlation between the fragmentation level and
velocity dispersion, nor between the observed number of fragments and the
number of fragments expected when the gravitationally unstable mass is
calculated including various prescriptions for `turbulent support'. On the
other hand, the best correlation is found for the case of pure thermal Jeans
fragmentation, for which we infer a core formation efficiency around 13 per
cent, consistent with previous works. We conclude that the dominant factor
determining the fragmentation level of star-forming massive dense cores at 0.1
pc scale seems to be thermal Jeans fragmentation.Comment: accepted in MNRA
Decentralized ellipsoidal state estimation for linear model predictive control of an irrigation canal
A centralized linear MPC is used to stabilize an irrigation system whose operation is represented by an integrator-delay model. Since not all the state variables can be measured, a decentralized ellipsoidal estimation strategy is proposed. This approach keeps the quality of a centralized estimation and reduces significantly the computation time for the systems considered. An adaptation of Test Canal 1, developed by the ASCE Task Committee on Canal Automation Algorithms, is used as a case study to show the performance of the proposed methodology.Fil: Rodriguez Aguilar, Leandro Pedro Faustino.
