Prospects of Detecting Massive Charged Higgs from Hadronic Decay H -> tb in CMS
The possibility to detect the massive charged Higgs boson H using the
hadronic decay channel H -> tb in the associated production pp -> tH + X in the
CMS experiment at LHC is studied. There is a large background from ttbb events
which makes the observation difficult. Detection of a Higgs signal in this
channel requires an excellent b-tagging performance. Good calorimeter mass
resolution is also necessary for the full event reconstruction.Comment: 13 pages, 18 figure
The role of dissipation in biasing the vacuum selection in quantum field theory at finite temperature
We study the symmetry breaking pattern of an O(4) symmetric model of scalar
fields, with both charged and neutral fields, interacting with a photon bath.
Nagasawa and Brandenberger argued that in favourable circumstances the vacuum
manifold would be reduced from S^3 to S^1. Here it is shown that a selective
condensation of the neutral fields, that are not directly coupled to photons,
can be achieved in the presence of a minimal ``external'' dissipation, i.e. not
related to interactions with a bath. This should be relevant in the early
universe or in heavy-ion collisions where dissipation occurs due to expansion.Comment: Final version to appear in Phys. Rev. D, 2 figures added, 2 new

Heavy Quark Parameters and Vcb from Spectral Moments in Semileptonic B Decays
We extract the heavy quark masses and non-perturbative parameters from the
Delphi preliminary measurements of the first three moments of the charged
lepton energy and hadronic mass distributions in semileptonic B decays, using a
multi-parameter fit. We adopt two formalisms, one of which does not rely on a
1/mc expansion and makes use of running quark masses. The data are consistent
and the level of accuracy of the experimental inputs largely determines the
present sensitivity. The results allow to improve on the uncertainty in the
extraction of Vcb.Comment: 13 pages, 2 figure
Performance evaluation of Fractal component based systems
International audienceComponent based system development is now a well accepted design approach in software engineering. Numerous component models have been proposed and for most of them, specific software tools allow building Component Based System (CBS). Although these tools perform several checks on the built system, few of them provide formal verification of behavioural properties nor performance evaluation of the resulting system. In this context, we have developed a general method associating to a CBS, a formal model, based on Stochastic Well formed Nets, a class of high level Petri Nets, allowing qualitative behavioural analysis together with performance evaluation of this CBS. The definition of the model heavily depends on the (run time) component model used to describe the CBS. In this paper, we instantiate our method to Fractal CBS and its reference Java implementation Julia. The method starts from the Fractal architectural description of a system, and defines rules to systematically generate elements models of the CBS and their interactions. We then apply a structured method both for qualitative and performance analysis taking into account the given implementation of the Fractal model. The main interest of our method is to take advantage of the compositional definition of such systems to carry out an efficient analysis. The paper concentrates on performance evaluation and presents our method step by step with an illustrative example
EuroSpine Task Force on Research: support for spine researchers
In recognition of the value of research to the practice of spine care, Federico Balagué and Ferran Pellisé, at the time President and Secretary for EuroSpine, asked Margareta Nordin to set up a Task Force on Research (TFR) for EuroSpine during summer 2011. The concept was to stimulate and facilitate a research community within the society, through two main functions: (1) distribution of EuroSpine funds to researchers; (2) develop and deliver research training/education courses. What has the EuroSpine TFR accomplished since its inception
Kinematic Constraints on Formation of Bound States of Cosmic Strings - Field Theoretical Approach
Superstring theory predicts the potential formation of string networks with
bound states ending in junctions. Kinematic constraints for junction formation
have been derived within the Nambu-Goto thin string approximation. Here we test
these constraints numerically in the framework of the Abelian-Higgs model in
the Type-I regime and report on good agreement with the analytical predictions.
We also demonstrate that strings can effectively pass through each other when
they meet at speeds slightly above the critical velocity permitting bound state
formation. This is due to reconnection effects that are beyond the scope of the
Nambu-Goto approximation.Comment: 6 pages, 12 eps figures - matches the published versio
Taudilla on ominaisuus uusiutua useasti.
Particle Survival and Polydispersity in Aggregation
We study the probability, , of a cluster to remain intact in
one-dimensional cluster-cluster aggregation when the cluster diffusion

Fisheries local action groups, small-scale fisheries and territorial development
\ua9 2024 The Authors. Sociologia Ruralis published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd on behalf of European Society for Rural Sociology. In comparison to the wealth of critical evaluation of LEADER (i.e., Liaison entre actions de d\ue9veloppement de l\u27\ue9conomie rurale), there has been no consolidated attempt to reflect on the contribution of Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs), now entering their third EU programming period. Set up in the image of LEADER, and a novel governance instrument within the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), FLAGs aim to activate local responses that build resilience and adaptability within the fisheries sector and wider communities. In addition to introducing the accompanying articles that make up this special issue of Sociologia Ruralis, our article gives an account of the emergence of community-led local development (CLLD) in fisheries and the attributes that have characterised the application of the LEADER approach within a fisheries-territorial development context. In many cases, FLAGs have led to improved relationships between the small-scale fishing sector and wider local social and economic networks, helping the sector reimagine its role within local economies. Yet outcomes vary as the FLAG approach has been applied across different cultural and institutional settings. There are indications that the system is becoming enveloped by wider priorities of coastal development and blue growth. Yet FLAGs may well provide a successful test case for widening participation in the CFP and upscaling integration of the fishing industry within local and regional economies. For CLLD in general, they are a reminder of the value of a differentiated CLLD approach tailored to different sectoral-territorial contexts
Influence of yttria additions on the oxidation behaviour of titanium prepared by powder metallurgy
The yttria dispersion effect on the oxidation resistance of titanium prepared by powder metallurgy has been evaluated between 700 and 900º C. Yttria additions slightly increase the oxidation rate up to 800ºC and decrease it considerably at 900º C. The multilayered rutile scale formed on pure titanium prepared by conventional techniques is replaced by a denser rutile scale in the case of Titanium prepared by powder metallurgy. Yttria additions raise the temperature at which a more protective dense rutile scale is formedThis work was supported by the Dirección General de Investigación
