Improving User Interaction on Ontology-based Peer Data Management Systems

    Get PDF
The issue of user interaction for query formulation and execution has been investigated for distributed and dynamic environments, such as Peer Data Management System (PDMS). Many of these PDMS are semantic based and composed by data peers which export schemas that are represented by ontologies. In the literature we can find some proposed PDMS interfaces, but none of them addresses, in a general way, the needs of a PDMS for user interaction. In this work we propose a visual user query interface for ontology-based PDMS. It provides a simple and straightforward interaction with this type of system. It aims not only providing a natural visual query interface but also supporting a precise and direct manipulation of the data schemas for query generation

In the field of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), the interoperability is seen as a problem associated with the formalization of the geographic concepts in the digital systems, facing semantic problems derivatives of the use of different models of data. Thus, one of the main features of the next generation of GIS will be to share information from different sources. For this, is necessary to incorporate to the GIS the philosophy of open systems. Otherwise, nowadays is widely accepted that the hypermedia functionalities can to play a very important role as underlying component (linking/relationship) in an information system. Systems as the WWW (World Wide Web) have illustrated as the global access to the information is crucial. For many, the WWW was the way through which was introduced the concept of Open Hypermedia Systems (OHS), demonstrating its potential to supply a paradigm integrated and unified of organization of the information.. Thus, leading in consideration the problem of interoperability and integration of GIS, and the features and functionalities offered for the Open Hypermedia Systems, in this paper is to present OHGIS (Open Hypermedia Geographical Information System), an alternative architecture for GIS, using the OHS filosofy as central paradigm for the definition of this architecture. This study was carried out to propose a modification of the centroid method. The method is modified in thechoice of the ideotype, to be defined according to the researcher's interest, using the bi-segmented regression model, ratherthan based on experimental data, which limit the comparison of genotypes. To illustrate the method, one trait was simulatedin 25 genotypes in 8 environments. For the simulations and statistical analyses the software package GENES was used. Themultiple centroid is more flexible than the original centroid method, since it can be used according to the researcher's objectiveand the desired recommendation strategy. It is also readily interpretable for recommendation and unambiguous. Besides, thenumber of genotypes of interest can be compared, making a detailed study possible, by separating the genotypes intorecommendation classes

Generation of organic wastes is a worldwide environmental issue, although, if properly handled they may be a valuable source of animal nutrients. The objective was to determine the performance of a wild strain Saccharomyces cerevisiae in a biopreparation from ruminal content enriched with peels of fruits. Probiotic properties of the wild strain such as tolerance to bile salts, pH changes, changes in temperature, high concentrations of sodium chloride; additional to antagonism testing and gas production from glucose were verified in vitro. Microbial growth was evaluated in a medium prepared from clarified ruminal content 40 % v/v, enriched with peel wastes from papaya, pineapple and banana at 25, 50, and 75 % w/w concentrations. Results showed that wild strain had a higher growth in the medium obtained with 50 % w/v fruit wastes. Growth of the strain in this medium disclosed the highest biomass production at 40 hours (2.28x108 cfu·mL-1 ). The viability of the strain showed no important decrease during two months in the log scale of the inoculum. It is concluded that ruminal content enriched with fruit peels provides necessary nutrients for growth of the wild strain S. cerevisiae with probiotic characteristics and the biopreparation represents a supplement which may be useful not only at nutritional level but also to decrease environmental impact caused by these organic wastes.

Production of one day-old chick production is one of the most important segments in the poultry production business. Broiler chicken incubation environment needs to be homogeneous and adequate so hatchability and final product quality are not affected. This research aimed at evaluating environmental conditions inside a multi-stage setter in a commercial hatchery house. The incubator was split into six areas and data loggers placed in the geometric center to register temperature and relative humidity data; carbon dioxide concentration and number of colony forming units (CFU) of fungi were also sampled and analyzed; Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric test was used for statistical analysis; significant differences in temperature and relative humidity distribution inside the incubator (p ; 0.05). Fungi incidence varied from average to good. Critical points were detected in all areas inside the setter

This work presents an analysis between two approaches for inferring trust in social networks: TidalTrust and T-SWEETS. The first part of this research is composed by an experiment with the Epinions, Slashdot and Wikipedia datasets in order to define the most suitable type of trust value (integer or fractioned, positive or negative, and so on). Furthermore, the second part of this research reports a comparative analysis between both algorithms. The results indicate that T-SWEETS outperforms TidalTrust in terms of accuracy and maintains the transitivity principle, which is the basic principle of trust.f trust
