Managing the national road network maintenance in Spain

The Spanish Ministry of Public Works manages the National Road Network, which consists in 27,000 km. In 1992, the average age of pavements was 7.2 years, whereas at present it has increased to 9 years. The great heterogeneity of pavements, the constant increase in the network length and its gradual aging demand important budgets but also agile technical, economic and administrative management models. The Subdirectorate of Maintenance and Operation is responsible of management systems for this network, now helped by the engineering consultancy GETINSA. This communication shows the actual state of the pavement management that consists in an Integrated Database System comprising many parameters both about technical values and administrative follow-up of actions. It is connected to various pavement evolution models that allow managers to predict the future state of the roads, then to establish a maintenance policy. Finally, the Management System calculates a maintenance plan, detailing actions to be done in each section in a multi-year scenario, so that the investment and the road quality are optimised. The Management System software combines analytical formula with geographical information, used for representing results as well as part of the forecast and optimisation models, using the modern technology of “dynamic segments”. Attention has been paid to conciliate the operational organisation of maintenance works with the fact that optimal needs are detailed for each road section in too short distances to be executed separately. The communication starts analysing other existing Pavement Management Systems, then describes the Spanish situation and justifies which Pavement Management System is needed. The body of the text covers the description of the functionalities and design assumptions of the new System. Finally, the conclusions present some future evolutions for the Spanish Management Systems and the possibility to generalise its use to other road networks, either for pavement or other assets.

Wild edible plants as potential antioxidant or nutritional supplements for beverages minimally processed

Wild edible plants (WEP) with high antioxidant capacity, Rosa canina fruits, Quercus ballota acorns and Sanguisorba minor (young leaves and stems), were added to orange and kiwifruit juices for increase the nutritional properties. The addition of WEP to orange juice (OJ) and kiwifruit cremogenate (KC) does not affect, or it can even improve, some parameters of consumer's acceptance, although the mixtures increasing sweetness and intensifying the matrix colour without changing the tone are the best valued. The beverages minimally processed with higher TSS were the matrices fortified with Q. ballota, the same that were considered sweetest by the judges. The addition of WEP to OJ did not significantly change the levels of vitamin C (ascorbic acid plus dehydroascorbic acid). The addition of R. canina and S. minor increased the content of phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity in both matrices (OJ and KC) in more than 30%. Beverages with a high interest for consumers and with high antioxidant properties have been obtained

Literary Dialectal Texts and their Problems of Translation

One of the countless problems the translator has to face when doing a translation is the problem of translating dialectal texts. To deal with this topic, I have divided my paper into four sections where I try to deal with several aspects all related to translation of this type of text. The first part deals with the debatable question of differentiating between language and dialect. We shall see what is understood by language and dialect, not only from the General Linguistics point of view but, more specifically, from the Sociolinguistic point of view as well. The second part will deal with literary translation and the problems this kind of translation brings about. In the third part I shall attempt to establish the reasons why dialect is used for literary purposes. Finally, I shall be looking at some examples where dialect has been used in two of the translations into Spanish of Bemard Shaw's Pygmalion. We shall see how successful the translators have been in their attempt to translate the dialect and what techniques they have applied to their respective translation

Análisis de la experiencia de enseñanza-aprendizaje de la investigación novel en estudiantes de grado en trabajo social

Introducción: Los estudios de Grado en Trabajo Social (TS) constituyen una oportunidad para afianzar la enseñanza de la investigación social desde la Universidad y acortar distancias entre la teoría, la investigación y la práctica. Este trabajo reflexiona sobre la enseñanza-aprendizaje de la investigación como espacio de análisis cualitativo, (auto) valoración crítica y descripción de los procesos de construcción de investigaciones noveles por estudiantes de la Universidad de Málaga. Material y métodos: Se presenta un análisis cualitativo sobre los aspectos más significativos alcanzados en la enseñanza-aprendizaje del diseño y ejecución de una investigación social en TS desde el punto de vista docente y del alumnado. Resultados: Las principales dificultades se relacionan con la propuesta del tema objeto de estudio y la búsqueda y citación de documentación científica. También, destaca la débil formación teórico- metodológica de investigación transferida durante la carrera. Estos obstáculos son superados con la perseverancia, reflexión y mirada crítica mediante la que el alumnado acaba realizando estas tareas, y por la iniciativa y disposición con la que afronta el trabajo de campo. Por último, se enfatiza la preparación y concienciación adquirida acerca del fortalecimiento de la investigación en TS a corto y medio-largo plazo. Discusión: El desarrollo de competencias profesionales para reforzar el quehacer científico en TS desde los estudios de Grado es un reto y un deber docente esencial. Asimismo, supone un compromiso para elevar el estatus científico en TS y contribuir a mejorar la calidad investigadora de su producción e impacto científico nacional e internacional.Universidad de Málaga. Análisis de la atención brindada por las educadoras de multinivel y la planificación didáctica de las actividades diarias tomando en cuenta la edad y características de los niños y niñas de I, II y III nivel de educación inicial, en los centros comunitarios del municipio de Nindirí, departamento de Masaya, durante el año 2017

Esta investigación pedagógica tiene un enfoque cualitativo pues consiste en estudiar la calidad de las actividades de manera flexible que se desarrollan en las aulas de los preescolares comunitarios que atienden multinivel, a fin de construir la realidad tal y como se observa. Es por ello que para poder recopilar información confiable se tomó en cuenta a 4 educadoras (2 de la zona rural y 2 de la zona urbana del municipio de Nindirí, departamento de Masaya), a quienes se les aplicaron los instrumentos de recolección de la información (entrevistas, guías de observación directa y de análisis documental). De igual manera se tomó en cuenta a la asesora pedagógica de educación inicial del MINED quien brindó información relevante acerca de cómo se atiende y da seguimiento a las educadoras y enseñanza en esta modalidad.En las visitas a los Centros Educativos se observó que las educadoras realizan las actividades dirigidas del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje como si estuvieran atendiendo a un nivel puro, proponiendo una misma actividad para todos y todas.Se constató que toman en cuenta el programa de educación inicial vigente para realizar su programación y planificación didáctica, sin embargo, estos estan plasmados de manera general, dirigidos a una sola etapa de educación inicial, por lo que las estrategias que se desarrollan durante la clase no satisfacen las necesidades y características de las niñas y los niños; lo cual se ve reflejado al momento de retomar los aprendizajes esperados estos no correspondan al desarrollo de habilidades propios de cada edad, lo cual no favorece la adquisición y desarrollo de aprendizajes significativos
