Estudio fenotípico, funcional y molecular de inmunodeficiencias con defectos de citotoxicidad y predisposición a infecciones virales y tumores

La respuesta del sistema inmunológico frente a infecciones víricas y tumores está basada en mecanismos inespecíficos (respuesta innata) y específicos(respuesta adaptativa) y en ella intervienen numerosos mediadores solubles y celulares. Los linfocitos T citotóxicos (CTL) y los linfocitos asesinos naturales (NK)pueden reconocer y destruir las células tumorales e infectadas por virus y secretar citoquinas que desempeñan un papel importante en la regulación de las funciones inmunitarias. Ambos tipos de células matan a sus objetivos por cualquiera de los dos mecanismos que requieren contacto directo con las células diana, gránulo dependiente o mediante receptores de muerte. Mutaciones monogénicas en alguno de los componentes que participan en estos procesos impiden la correcta eliminación de patógenos y tumores en humanos produciendo inmunodeficiencia y malignidad..

Programa de educación para la salud sobre los retinoblastomas.

En los últimos años, han aumentado las cifras de niños con cáncer, convirtiéndose dicha enfermedad en la primera causa de muerte por enfermedad hasta los 14 años. Son muchos los tipos de cáncer infantil que se tratan hoy en día y muchas las zonas a las que puede afectar, siendo uno de estos tipos el retinoblastoma. El retinoblastoma es el tumor maligno ocular más frecuente en la infancia, y el segundo tumor intraocular primario de todos los grupos de edad. Aunque no es uno de los que mayor incidencia tiene, pues oscila en torno al 3%, si es una de las que mejor pronóstico pueden tener si se diagnostica a tiempo. Partiendo de esta idea, en el presente trabajo, se expone un plan de educación a los profesionales de enfermería, para así fomentar el aprendizaje sobre los conocimientos de esta enfermedad y conseguir por tanto un diagnostico lo más precoz posible. Con este programa no solo nos quedamos ahí, si no que queremos llegar más lejos, instruyendo a dichos profesionales a impartir charlas a todos los interesados en el tema para así conseguir que el conocimiento de esta enfermedad llegue a todo el mundo y con ello se reduzca cada vez más su incidencia.In the last years, the figures of children with cancer has increased, turning this disease the first cause of death by disease up to 14 years. A lot of types of childhood cancer are treated today and many areas that it can affect, being one of these types the retinoblastoma. Retinoblastoma is the most common childhood malignancy tumor eye, and the second primary intraocular tumor of all age groups. Although it is not one with the highest incidence, as it ranges around 3%, it is one that can have a better prognosis if it is diagnosed on time. Starting off this idea, in this work, an education plan is exposed to nurses, to promote learning and knowledge about this disease and getting a diagnosis as soon as possible. With this program we not only focus in this, so that we want to go further, instructing these professionals to give talks to everyone interested in the subject in order to get the knowledge of this disease reaches everyone and thereby reduce increasing incidence.pre-print1552 K

Garlic derivatives (PTS and PTS-O) differently affect the ecology of swine faecal microbiota in vitro

A number of in vitro experiments were designed to evaluate the effects of two different industrial products, namely PROALLIUM-S-DMC and PROALLIUM-SO-DMC (DMC Research Center, Granada, Spain), obtained from garlic (Allium sativum) on the faecal microbiota of pigs. The effects of three different concentrations (50, 200 and 400 ppm) of the active compounds (PTS and PTS-O, respectively) from both industrial products on the gastrointestinal microbiota of pigs were tested. Growth medium without any additive (0 ppm) was used as control. Predominant bacterial groups (total aerobes, total anaerobes,lactobacilli, bifidobacteria, coliforms, enterobacteria, bacteroides and clostridia) were studied. Results showed that both PTS and PTS-O have significant (P < 0.01) antimicrobial activity against every group studied, although enterobacteria and coliforms were the most affected populations (P < 0.01). Time kill curves for Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium, two common pathogens of pigs, showed that both compounds had a bactericidal effect against these strains. For the bacterial groups here studied, the antimicrobial effect of PTS-O was significantly (P < 0.001) stronger than that of PTS. Trials in vivo are in course to study the potential use of these products as alternatives to antibiotics in pig feeds.Peer reviewe

La historia inmediata en la televisión española: la representación del terrorismo

En estas páginas se llevará a cabo un breve repaso sobre la representación televisiva del fenómeno del terrorismo en España, desde ETA hasta Al-Qaeda, y se pondrán de manifiesto diferentes lecturas realizadas sobre el mayor atentado de la Historia de España. Como se planteará a continuación, la recreación televisiva del terrorismo ha pasado en los últimos años desde un cierto enfoque de consenso –manifestado en una información homogénea y una cobertura similar respecto a ciertas acciones de ETA-, a una ruptura discursiva, en lo que se refiere al tratamiento del 11-M. En términos generales, su interpretación mediática se hizo en clave interna. Esta lectura local del 11-M dio lugar a una producción documental centrada sobre dos temas fundamentales: la autoría (enfocada desde la disyuntiva ETA/Al-Qaeda), y las consecuencias del atentado sobre las inmediatas elecciones del 14 de marzo de 2004. De esta manera, las televisiones ofrecieron una focalización definida. Technologies for coeducation and equality : teachers assessement of an educational tool web

El propósito de este trabajo es presentar la valoración del profesorado sobre una herramienta web que sirve para el diagnóstico de la cultura de género en la escuela. Esta iniciativa se desarrolla a raíz de la puesta en marcha del I Plan de Igualdad entre Hombres y Mujeres en Educación de Andalucía. Este artículo presenta un estudio descriptivo basado en encuesta sobre la valoración del profesorado acerca de esta herramienta web. Participan en el estudio 185 profesores de centros educativos públicos. Los resultados muestran una valoración óptima de la herramienta, destacando su impacto positivo en el clima y prácticas escolares. Se observan diferencias en la valoración del profesorado según la experiencia de uso de la herramienta.The aim of this paper is to present the teachers assessment about a web tool which serves to assess a culture of gender equality in school. This initiative is carried out in the frame of the First Plan for Equal Opportunities between Men and Women in Education in Andalusia. This article presents a survey study whose purpose is to know the teachers’ assessment about this web tool. 185 teachers participate in this study. The results show a positive teachers’ assessment of the web tool, emphasizing its positive impacts into school climate and practices. The results reveal significant statistically differences in the teachers’ assessment according to their experience in the use of the web tool

Experimental study of concentration polarization in a crossflow reverse osmosis system using Digital Holographic Interferometry

Digital Holographic Interferometry (DHI) has been used to visualize the polarization concentration layer during crossflow RO. This technique is based on the fact that changes in the concentration of the solution produce changes in its refractive index. Therefore, the concentration profile formed due to the polarization phenomenon can be visualized as interference fringes. Experiments with Na2SO4 and NaCl solutions have been carried out. Three variables of the process were studied: crossflow velocity, initial concentration and pressure applied. In each experiment, crossflow velocity was changed every 30min, in an increasing or decreasing sequence. Few minutes after changing the crossflow velocity the steady-state was reached. Interference fringe patterns of the polarization layer and their corresponding concentration profiles, as well as the permeate flux in different experimental conditions, are presented. The major experimental result is the visualization for the first time in situ and in real-time of the polarization layer in a process of crossflow by a non-invasive method. Experimental results show a close relationship among crossflow velocity, permeate flux and polarization layer. Influence of liquid-to-biogas ratio and alkalinity on the biogas upgrading performance in a demo scale algal-bacterial photobioreactor

The influence of the liquid-to-biogas ratio (L/G) and alkalinity on methane quality was evaluated in a 11.7 m3 outdoors horizontal semi-closed tubular photobioreactor interconnected to a 45-L absorption column (AC). CO2 concentrations in the upgraded methane ranged from <0.1 to 9.6% at L/G of 2.0 and 0.5, respectively, with maximum CH4 concentrations of 89.7% at a L/G of 1.0. Moreover, an enhanced CO2 removal (mediating a decrease in CO2 concentration from 9.6 to 1.2%) and therefore higher CH4 contents (increasing from 88.0 to 93.2%) were observed when increasing the alkalinity of the AC cultivation broth from 42 ± 1 mg L−1 to 996 ± 42 mg L−1. H2S was completely removed regardless of the L/G or the alkalinity in AC. The continuous operation of the photobioreactor with optimized operating parameters resulted in contents of CO2 (<0.1%–1.4%), H2S (<0.7 mg m−3) and CH4 (94.1%–98.8%) complying with international regulations for methane injection into natural gas grids.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
